toile is different from canvas.

the LV canvas as far as I know is "laminated" (but i am no LV expert), thus creating that PVC feel. h canvas may have been treated but the hand is different. i believe canvas on Cabag is more smooth but a bit starchy, for lack of a better word. in terms of durability, i don't know how they compare to other brands, but in terms of H, i've been told that toile is more durable than canvas.

i agree with others that things like this are hard to explain. it is best that you go to the store and get a feel yourself. that way, you can decide whether you like it or not!

Hi hanyeu, thanks! Exactly what I need!! Woah, Toile is better durable? This is sad as the Cabag is made of Canvas. Hopefully one come out in Leather soon

Hi everyone! :D

Am new to the Hermes bandwagon. I'm planning to purchase my first ever Hermes item - the Hermes Kelly double strap or the Cape Cod double strap. I was just wondering whether anyone knows about their prices or have purchased them recently. I've recently moved to Singapore, so I don't know about how much taxes we pay on luxury items - however, some of my friends have recommended that I buy the watch at the airport DFS. But, some of the authorized dealers at the airport obviously have limited collection (didn't see any Kelly or Cape Cod there), so I was thinking to just purchase it from the boutique.

Does anyone know whether the price difference is huge between non-DFS and DFS?

Thanks beforehand everyone :) much appreciated!

^ Welcome groovyme! In general, price difference between DFS and non-DFS is the Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 7%. I do understand that the H at downtown DFS Galleria on Scotts Road, do occasionally have promotions on H watches (upto 20% discount or so). I'm not sure if H still distribute their time pieces through other authorised watch distributors which might be able to provide some amount of discounts.

Hi ms piggy!

Thanks for the clarification. I think I will take a browse around Orchard after office today. I went for a trip last week and popped by at the Hermes store in the airport, but the styles that they have over there were limited. Do you have an idea on the range of prices, by any chance? :smile1:

The Cape Cod watch with double strap is about S$5000-6000. I can't recall the exact price. The watch with the single strap is slightly less than S$5000, I think.

There are 2 different buckles available. One is the normal buckle, which is already included in the usual price, the other is a more elaborate buckle in a larger silver piece which will add another few hundred to the price.

Just for inventory alone, I'd suggest you check Liat or Taka - they have the best stocks. Their prices are exactly the same as DFS Scotts, except as like Ms Piggy mentioned - when DFS has their watches on sale. I think Dickson Watch at Centrepoint also carries H watches, but I'm not sure how good their inventories/prices are.

Thanks pyrexia !!! ;)

I will go to Hermes Taka & Liat this weekend to check on prices etc. So far, I like the smaller Cape Cod with orange strap, but I want to see whether I will like it in real life, on my wrist. Fingers crossed!!

I agree that service at the Taka boutique is way disappointing. The SAs are proud and downright rude. Liat Towers has better service, but nothing compares to the service at any Hermes boutique in Hong Kong. I'd rather hold off my purchases till HK!

^ That is correct, there is no craftsperson now until April. Sending to Paris would take longer than 6 months. If it is just a regular spa, i'd wait. Unless it's an emergency.

6 months really?! I just sent in mine and the SA told me it will only take about 2-3 months. And that they'll send it to Paris within 2wks of receiving the bag. It has been 1.5mths and they have yet to send it.

I am quite surprised to know that Taka store gets the most vote for bad service. I always shop at Taka and have been getting good service so far from the 'old' SAs. So, no complaints from me.

However, there are quite a number of new and young SAs which I find not well-trained in customer service though.

Hi SG Ladies,

I'm wondering if there's someone with a similar experience to mine.

I recently acquired a lizard CDC from one of the local stores - it didn't come with a CITES.
I was told by my SA that the CITES is given out for exotic bags. (Didn't ask about SLGs unfortunately.)

Is this a practice peculiar to SG? I've seen the certificate peeking out of the boxes of exotic CDCs revealed by international members, and from online resellers.:shrugs:

Cheers!

This is my understanding too - it is usually only for bags and the bigger items. Most of the time, for smaller SLG's in exotic, they will only print a line on the receipt (not sure if our local stores do this, but Paris did this for my SLG).

CITES is only needed if you travel out of the country - some countries have strict laws on endangered animals etc and it is just for their customs to ensure that the animals are farmed according to international conventions.

So far, I haven't been stopped for carrying my SLG, and I don't think there will be much trouble for small goods.

Are you a Singaporean? In the H stores here, CITES would only be issued to foreigners/tourists, mainly for bags. There can be some exceptions but these are considered on a case-by-case basis.
