Hi all,

I am trying to understand more about Hermes’ approach to leather colors.

From what I have read, there are new seasonal colors that appear and other colors that are used over and over every season (the classics- etoupe gold noir etc)


My reason for asking- top of my wishlist bag is a 5P mini Kelly. When I did research, from my understanding 5P is a color that often comes back. However, I looked online and every single 5P mini Kelly from a reseller was from 2021.

When I asked my SA, she said “that combo is long gone. We can do a pink this fall but we have to see the pinks available”. Personally I don’t love mauve pale nor the fuschia pink I feel like I have seen a lot lately.

To sum it up, my general questions are:

1. Are there some colors that appear every season but not necessarily in the same bag sizes as before? For example, is it that 5P is still being produced just not for mk (in another form someone said 5P has been reoccurring since it was introduced)?

2. Has anyone had a situation where miraculously a bag in a color from previous season was available at a store?

3. Is this a situation where based on the colors of the season I should maybe wait for 2024 to see what other colors are available?

TYIA! I am so appreciate of this community and the knowledge people have to share. You have all played a role in me falling in love with this brand.

Beyond the classic colors (noir, etoupe, and gold) every color is technically a “seasonal” color. These colors come and go at Hermes’ whim and often in differing leather types which lends itself to exclusion/focus on certain product lines. Regardless, 5P made a brief come back in 2021 but is not current today in 2023. There is a non zero chance that a 5P K20 randomly arrives to your store but it would have to be an outstanding order that the store made at podium in 2020/21 and had yet to be filled. (Theoretically your SA could check if this were the case, though I don’t think it’s easy or available to all SAs.) The bag would arrive with a 2021 stamp as it would have been manufactured in 2021 and then hung out in warehouses somewhere. If it’s not clear, this is very unlikely to happen. Recommend you continue looking for other pinks that could satisfy or prepare yourself to wait for another random unpredictable rerelease of 5P in Epsom.

Yes, I was thinking my runner ups would be mauve Sylvestre or rose confetti. You think there is more of chance between those two?

The other pinks seem so pale or so bright. Looking for a happy medium.

I think currently rose Sakura is still on the special order colour palette. If your SA could offer you an SO, then you can go for it as a alternative.

Otherwise, if you see yourself as a long term Hermes customer, you can monitor for this colour to come back. If you don’t see yourself to be shop Hermes long term, just get it from the resale market. Save yourself the trouble.

Rose Sakura is not on the current SO menu in any K20 leather so this is not an option.

I think you’d have a decent chance of mauve sylvestre!! Rose confetti not so much right now.

When your sa said try for pink in the fall.. Did he mean SO?

I don’t think so, she said something along the lines of “we’ll see what colors are available in the fall and find you a similar pink”

I would not really say 5P comes back often. It was released in 2010, so there was certainly wider availability around that time. However, 5P had been rested for a couple years by the time the Mini Kelly II was released in 2016. 5P was reintroduced for 2021, so that is why all the Mini Kelly IIs you are seeing are from that year.

Not necessarily. Colour availability is more dependent on leather type than bag size. 5P has been recurring, but not at all consistently.

This happens rather frequently. Of course, the bag will still be stamped with the appropriate production year stamps from when it was available.

You could wait until 2024, but I will warn you that Hermès is not releasing or re-releasing pink shades as often as they used to, so you may be waiting a few seasons before coming across something you love. The big pink for Mini Kelly II right now is Rose Pop in Chèvre, though it is probably brighter than you'd like. Out of the other colours you mentioned, you will probably have the most luck with Mauve Sylvestre. Good luck!;)

This happens rather frequently. Of course, the bag will still be stamped with the appropriate production year stamps from when it was available.


You could wait until 2024, but I will warn you that Hermès is not releasing or re-releasing pink shades as often as they used to, so you may be waiting a few seasons before coming across something you love. The big pink for Mini Kelly II right now is Rose Pop in Chèvre, though it is probably brighter than you'd like. Out of the other colours you mentioned, you will probably have the most luck with Mauve Sylvestre. Good luck!;)

I got a 5p mini Kelly in 2021… I had no idea this is a seasonal color and so hard to come by, I just love pink!
I would suggest not going for a specific seasonal color from the store, as that’s highly unpredictable and can lead to disappointment… if it does come back, someone would probably post online that they got it from another store and the earlier you knew about that the sooner you can ask your SA to keep on the look out!
I have seasonal colors that I love but not currently in production as well, I cope with that by asking for similar color palettes in wait of their return some day :)
