Dear ladies,

My mother has lost all of her hair from chemotherapy. She's stage 4 and has been down in the dumps, so I thought that it would be nice to buy her a nice scarf (or two) to lift her spirits. However, I'm not very familiar with Hermes and how to authenticate. It seems that there are a lot of fakes out there.

I was unsuccessful in my attempts to get these items authenticated on the authentication thread. The first item appears similar to a LV bandeau. I didn't see the same style on the Hermes website but saw another one on eBay called a "twilly".

Is a twilly supposed to have a copyright symbol? Maybe this is why the authenticators skipped my requests? I asked the authenticators and they skipped right over my request...twice :( I also noticed a similar one for sale. This one has a white tag, but the other has a black tag.

Comment: Any idea on the approximate production date? Any obvious signs of it being a fake? I noticed that some have longer tags. This one is short.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

I have just been through this exact thing with a friend. You might like to know that these two designs in particular are widely faked. More specific to your situation though, my friend found the silk very slippery and difficult to keep in place. Also, I don't know where you live, but her head got very cold (UK) and she needed something more substantial. A happy solution was reached using 90 cm silk/cashmere scarves. I hope this helps in your search and good wishes to you both.

Thank you for your reply! I thought that silk would be less slippery than polyester but appreciate your advice. Of course I pick the scarves most commonly counterfeited! I want to buy something special for her but don't want to throw away money. I see a lot of scarves listed from Japan. Is it a red flag to see one seller listing tons of Hermes scarves? Also, is there a link that explains what I should be looking for in an authentic Hermes scarf (tag, copyright, hem, etc)? Maybe if I can study them I can detect (and avoid) counterfeits. Thanks again!

I'm afraid I can't give you any help with authentication, but when I went through chemotherapy I pulled out all my 90cm Hermes scarves and wore them instead of wigs. They were VERY comfy, and definitely lifted my spirits. I tied them "pirate-style," folding them into a large triangle, bringing the two points to the back, and tying a knot in the back to hold the third point in place (hopes this is understandable).

And I ALWAYS wore lipstick.

I always got compliments from my oncologist.

Please give your Mom a hug from me.

And, also, you seem to buy from mostly high-risk sellers (few feedbacks or little prior experience in selling luxury goods), make it uncomfortable for the authenticators to have a say.

Now we need to go back to topic please :back2topic:.

my two cents worth, based upon my experience (s) silks slip - if you want silks, and Hermes, I have been told that you can buy little "caps" that you wear under a scarf....I think they are similar to the caps that one wears under a wig. Since some other things "itch" I always wore "baseball caps" or hats............that may not be her style. H has some really cute hats. There is no perfect solution that I have found. Good luck, my thoughts are with you.

I love hats, but it's really not her thing. Thank you for the advice and kind words :)

There were so many postings that I found it difficult to read through them all. Thank you for pointing this out. Indeed one was listed by a new seller. I received that scarf today, "Brides de Gala". It seems to meet all of the criteria to be authentic, although it's filthy and not at all new as listed. Oh well, lesson learned. Thanks again for your help.

I don't often stop and gasp at things, but this one stopped me in my tracks. Any help identifying these two cashmere silk beauties would be greatly appreciated. Also, would they still be available in store? View attachment 2555114View attachment 2555115

first is L'instruction du Roy colorway 12 rouge/taupe/vermillon. it is from Fall 2013 collection.

Apologies for the awful pictures. Unavoidably got my shadow in them. This is a giant dip dye in muted green and brown, I don't know color names or anything. Can anyone help me with the name of the scarf? I hope these are enough pictures. Thanks!
