Inspired by @BreezyE ’s equestrian leather jacket, asked my SA to find it in the brown color but only size 38 was available. I thought it would be too small since all the models wear that size online and I am definitely not thin.

Don’t think this is a style I could button up as it’s very fitted. There’s some stretch to it though.

I need honest opinions whether or not to pass on this! Love the color but feel like it’s small in the torso and the sleeves are too long. I feel like I should have the option to button this up if I wanted to. They also said they wouldn’t be able to tailor the sleeves since it’s leather… Is this true?

Anyone have mod shots of this jacket and the size you wear? TIA!
Fit is most important as one wants to be wearing something that looks well. This is a beautiful jacket,
the color is versatile, but @sugarmonkey if you are saying that it's small in the torso, the sleeves
are too long & you can't button it up, that sums it up in a way doesn't it? JMO
H may not want to do the alteration on leather, but leather can be altered..?
Are there buttons on the sleeve? Perhaps that could be the reason H says it can't be altered..

No buttons on the sleeve! I’m just trying to convince myself that despite this things, that this will work 😂

I think it looks too small with weird proportions (the shoulders look ample but the torso looks fitted). Hermes has a similar but slightly different leather equestrian jacket every season. I would wait for a better fit in subsequent releases.

I’ve heard the leather sleeve refusal from them before so it is a common answer, though I swear some members have had it done (sending it away to the head tailor at a flagship store though).

I love this color! And they can absolutely shorten the sleeves! I have a H leather jacket that I needed the sleeves shortened. They actually take it in at the shoulder seam! It was also done free of charge by H. (But from reading this thread, sounds like the fee varies from store to store. Madison did not charge me.)

I currently have a non-leather jacket that is being altered at FSH. Sleeves are getting shortened and the tailor is letting out some of the darts in the back so I can button it more comfortably, as well as adjusting the shoulder so the fit is perfect. I don’t know if they can let out the darts on the leather jacket though.

I would not buy it if they won’t shorten the sleeves for you. And if you also can’t button it. At that price point, it should fit better, or H should offer to alter it for you so it does.

This is great information to know! Thank you!

At this price point I’d have to make sure it can close. I’d pass. Don’t compromise with the fit. Everytime I did that I always regretted it.

The brown color is gorgeous and such a great piece! Mine is also a 38 and I think the style of the jacket is to be fitted around the waist. From your pictures it looks buttoned nicely for the style, and I don’t see any pulling.

I would pass though if they can’t shorten the sleeves. I have very long arms so my sleeves are a bit short but that’s a different problem 😂.

I'm not going to help you avoid buying it considering it looks really good on you. Would you ever NEED to button it? I'd wear it like a blazer. About the sleeves not being alter-able, I don't buy that for a minute. I have a fantastic tailor that can alter anything.

I think you look great BUT I think it has to be perfect the way you want it! My store said they can shorten the sleeves but I think it depends on the tailor they use (they don't all have in-house tailors). I love the color on you but again, I think if you loved it, there would be no doubt. My SA said they come out with a variation of these every year so you should wait or get the right size.

Your pics look nice. But, it’s more about how you feel wearing it that is important. And, yes, you should be able to button it up. So, I would wait and get the right size. I know this from experience having purchased an equestrian jacket that I should have sized up on. Hermes makes an equestrian jacket every year.

You can ask your SA to do a search to see if there are stores with a size 40. Your store should also be able to shorten the sleeves for no charge.* Cervo , deer skin, does have some give, but in this cut, not enough to matter.

*if they use an outside tailor, it is imporrant that the store send it out and get it back bc then they are responsible for any issues that might arise.

I think you look nice in the photos but it’s reasonable to want the option to wear it closed. Unfortunately the leather alteration policy seems to vary tremendously between stores (and sometimes even between what different SAs advise clients). They most definitely can (and have) shorten sleeves (gratis!) at the shoulder seam especially if there are buttons/ zips or other details at the wrist. When there aren’t convenient/appropriate shoulder seams they’ll still shorten the sleeves the traditional way, then the leather edge just needs to be re-waxed which unfortunately takes a while. My personal experience and a point of frustration- compared to almost every other major fashion house, Hermes is extremely conservative with alterations (I’ve often been discouraged from requesting them, always seems like a huge ask). For me this kind of defeats the purpose of buying RTW. Also, asking for an alterations fee on a 10-15k leather garment is in poor taste imo 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wearing the asymmetrical jacket in the beige camel color and jet sneakers. (non H items including BR linen knit shirt, jcrew wool wide leg trousers). @pmt219 I agree about the jacket having lack of pockets makes it hard to know what to do with the hands  but wearing trousers worked out well to compensate
I love the whole vibe! You style the beige color so well, very cool and effortless looking

Must be nice to have long arms! Honestly at this price point I’d they can’t alter/tailor minor things I agree that it’s not worth it. Thanks for the input!
