"This suitcase, named R.M.S for Rolling Mobility Suitcase, is perfect for a few days away. Its innovative design combines lightness, practicality and compact lines with a nod to the house’s traditional design codes in its leather reinforced corners. This ultra-mobile case is equipped with four wheels, borrowed from Hermès skateboards designed in 2017, which glide smoothly over the ground. In canvas or entirely in leather, the R.M.S is all about comfort, with a curved zip for opening the case out flat with ease, and a telescopic handle. With customisable wheels and handles, its look can be changed at will."

Following are details provided by Hermès on how to use and care for the R.M.S. taken from here.

Personalization
Make the R.M.S. suitcase your own by adding a touch of personalization. There are multiple options available to change your suitcase according to your wishes. The handle can be chosen from a variety of eight different strap colors and seven leather colors. If you choose a leather handle, your initials or a date can be hot stamped on it. Each wheel can have its own color selected from nine shades, any combination is possible.

For all personalization wishes, contact your local Hermès store or our Customer Service department for assistance.

Telescopic handle
Thanks to an ingenious mechanism, adjust your R.M.S. suitcase handle height in a single step.

USING THE TELESCOPIC HANDLE
Position your suitcase vertically and press the upper side button to automatically release the handle from its compartment. Next, twist the leather-covered central section towards the front as far as possible, and hold the position to set the desired height. Simply release the handle, the rotating section will return to its original place with the height now set.

STORING THE TELESCOPIC HANDLE
Twist the leather covered section towards the front as much as possible, hold this position and then push the handle down until you feel a slight resistance. Release the handle, the rotating part will return to its initial place. Press lightly on the handle to place it back into its compartment.

If you feel a locking effect in the telescopic handle, repeat the operation, carefully lowering the handle until finding the resistance point without forcing it down.

The lock
Your R.M.S. suitcase features a TSA (Transportation Security Administration)-approved ultra slim lock, meaning it can be controlled by U.S. Customs with no additional damage. Inserted on the side, near the zip closure, it’s secured through the use of a personal code.

Suitcase amenities
To help you enjoy your getaways fully, your suitcase features a variety of functional amenities. To this end, it boasts a zipped exterior pocket for your travel essentials. In the inside, the largest compartment allows you to arrange your belongings however you like thanks to its generous size. The second storage space, closed by a zippered flap with an integrated additional pocket, houses your more delicate pieces.

Like all bags and luggage, your suitcase has a maximum load. If this maximum load is exceeded, the handle may not function correctly. In this case, we suggest reconsidering the contents of your suitcase in order to take advantage of its full functionality.

The protective cover
Your suitcase comes with a water-repellent canvas cover for ensuring protection when used or stored.

USING THE PROTECTIVE COVER
To protect your R.M.S. with its cover, place the suitcase vertically and pull the cover down from top to bottom to cover its length. Use the two flaps and snap fasteners to secure the cover in place. This can be done whether the R.M.S. handle is extended or closed.

When your cover is not in use, we recommend keeping it stored in a folded and rolled up manner. You may clean your cover with a soft cloth and soapy water as necessary. To remove any creasing, we recommend ironing your cover at a low temperature.

The leather
The external part of the leather (reinforced corners, small edges, borders and sides for versions completely in leather) is made of taurillon Regate leather. This new grained leather, resistant to friction and water droplets, has been specifically developed for your suitcase. As an organic material, Hermès leather evolves and beautifies with time. Always in “full bloom”, the upper layer remains intact and untouched. It becomes shiny and naturally develops a patina when used.

Hermès leather is sensitive to natural hazards: intense heat, direct sunlight, excess humidity or dryness are liable to change its appearance. After prolonged contact with water, be sure to wipe with a soft cloth to avoid streaks forming. Leather does not like excess. Certain materials can leave a lasting mark: ink, lipstick, perfume or even hydroalcoholic gel. Equally, repeated contact with raw or deep-colored fabric risks staining lighter colored leathers.

The canvas
The two large faces of the suitcase are covered in Militaire Sport fabric or printed H Plume canvas, depending on the model. Hermès canvas is particularly resistant and, for an enhanced protection, is water-repellent. To ensure its longevity, it is recommended to protect it from natural hazards. Sun exposure or prolonged daylight may alter the fabric’s appearance and color.

Wheels and metallic pieces
Ultramobile, your suitcase features four wheels, each consisting of two rubber parts for a silent and easeful glide. Thanks to the precision and know-how of a silversmith, your R.M.S. clasps and other mechanisms are metallic pieces made from aluminium and steel.

While your suitcase is not in use, we recommend keeping it in its box or protective cover, away from sunlight and in a dry, cool environment. Regularly entrusting your R.M.S. to Hermès craftsmen is recommended to preserve the original beauty of your suitcase over time. By intervening yourself, with unsuitable products, you risk damaging your suitcase. With this care, your Hermès suitcase will preserve its original beauty and reveal its personality over time.

Launched recently as part of its Fall/Winter 2021 collection, the suitcase is already available at FSH. Other cities in Europe due to receive this are Rome, London, another city which I'm forgetting. :sweatdrop: Price ranges from approximately 6500-12,000€.

So, who's going to be getting one? ;)
Not a fan of the clamshell style of suitcase. If they make a spinner that is top opening, and soft sided, I might be interested.

I love the whimsical patterns, but my SA discouraged this on the grounds that the interior would not hold enough for me.
DH and I travel often, but prefer not to check unless skiing. We can take as carry ons two rimowa weekenders and two rollers between both of us.

For those who have the H R.M.S. carry on luggage..

  1. B35 too big to sit atop of it or not? I have seen pics with B35 sitting beautifully atop and others where it’s 30% larger in flat surface area and falling off …
  2. When do you (don’t you) use your baggage covering? I can see covering it before security baggage check or outdoors if weather is temperamental, but don’t see the point to buy a beautiful piece only to cover it all up. Are there others scenarios where I should consider having it covered vs bare?
Thanks in advance!

You'll probably be more likely to get a response by asking one of the members who have purchased the RMS suitcase on this thread. ;)

Would also love to hear when you choose to leverage this piece over other more spacious/functional carry ons (aware that many of us have a selection of different sized rimowas already each with its own purpose)

For reference I am primarily a frequent international commercial traveler for business, usually 1-2 weeks duration per trip. Any domestic travel is for personal pleasure and shorter in duration.

Just got the cargo RMS from Paris!

So the pockets in front are actually functional. One is for AirPods and the other one is a good size for a power bank. You can see my charging cord coming from it to my phone in one of the pictures. There’s also a slit pocket for your passport or boarding pass. And a big zippered pouch in the back and a smaller one in the front. The inside looks pretty much the same as the other RMS. I chose Rouge H for the handle and wheels. And it comes in a massive blue box!

Took it on her maiden voyage yesterday and trying to be zen about scuffing it. 😬😬 I put the canvas cover on it to put it in the bins for security. Took off the cover to try out all the pockets etc while I was hanging around in the lounge, then put the cover back on to go on the plane. It’s a lot of taking on and off. I think once I get over my OCD and it gets its first scuff, I can just use it and enjoy it without having to do the cover, which is honestly not that easy to put on. It is super cute and rolls very smoothly. Also VERY light!! That was unexpected !! I think it will be great for short weekend trips.

My giant deauville tote fit on top and I did not have any trouble rolling it all around CDG like that. I just took some photos with my B35 since someone was asking. It does hang over but it was fine if I hold the handles while rolling it around, which is what I usually do anyways.

PS I saw another woman at the airport with the galaxy space version. I chatted with her about it and she had also just purchased it. She did not have the cover on it. Hers had a cute coordinating green handle and 2 green wheels and 2 blue wheels.

Love it, beautiful! Do you mind sharing the price of it? I believe the regular carry on leather was around $10k

Our SA is really trying to get me to go for one, but unfortunately the handle is too short for me to walk comfortably with it behind me. I think the bag is amazing though.

Thank you! It was 15,200 euros. I’m not sure if the leather (vs canvas) handle I chose added to the cost. And to be honest I had no idea it was that much. I assumed (incorrectly) it would be around the same cost as the regular RMS, and just swiped my card at checkout with my other purchases and only realized when I got back to the hotel when I was looking at the receipt how much it was! My jaw did drop a little. 😬😆

Luckily I am only 5’2” and the handle is the perfect height for me lol! And did I mention that it’s light? I usually struggle to get my carry on into the overhead bin and it was much easier with this one, for anyone else who is petite. (I usually look for a tall person nearby to help me if my husband isn’t with me lol.)

ETA: I usually roll my carryon beside me, not behind me. Not sure if that would make a difference for you @cravin?
