Hermes Replacement Bag Straps

I don't care for the straps, and I find it disturbing that H is chasing trends. There are plenty of mass market players out there, Hermes is a true artisan house, no need to mass market faux "unique." I showed these to my SO, and he said "seems like a kelly is pretty unique on it's own, why make it look like something else." I like the rocabar straps because they are in keeping with the equestrian heritage. I must admit I love the black kelly above, but if they show up all over the place, it will lose its luster. I must disagree with some posters who think that H should expand the SO process- the adage "good things come to those who wait" is never more true than with H. Part of the worth is in the wait.

These straps can probably be shortened if the length is too long. I just don't see a lot of H history or originality in what we have seen so far. How about scarf print straps, or equestrian references? I would use an anthracite Mythiques Phoenix strap on any of my black bags :D
That said, I have mainly Kelly sellier and I am fine with the regular leather strap for those anyway.

Yes, exactly! I can visualize a wide silk scarf print inset into a leather-backed and edged strap. What a way to add color and personality. It could be reversible with plain leather color on one side and silk print showing on other. Can't imagine the artisans didn't think of something that incorporates the heritage of the silks!

That said, who knows how I'll actually feel when I see them in person [emoji68]‍[emoji335]

Yeah. I like the black kelly in the pic too because the handle is a compliment vs a contrast....the main color is still black. I'm not into the other two with the contrasting handles.

You can get pretty much anything made by Etsy artisans.
As much as it's nice to have hardware perfectly match, etc., I'm not loving these straps....that's just for me

QF, I quite agree with you about these straps, I am not feeling the vibe at all. They seem so trendy, or more like a trend that has really run it's course and now H is jumping into the market a little too late. Seems like a money grab to me.

Plus, just being practical about putting an outfit together and these straps take that to a totally new level. So, hasta la vista baby.
I will join you on etsy, QF.

After seeing the preview I was nervous about coming to this thread to post a negative opinion. Now that I've read it through I realize we are all in agreement.
I am not precious about Hermes, they can change and innovate, but they should start a look, not follow it, and certainly not come on board at the tail end of a trend. If I had never seen the millions of options by Fendi, Valentino, Gucci, etc, long ago filtered down to numerous department store brands, Etsy sellers and Chinese counterfeiters I might still think it was not in keeping with the brand or more trendy than classic, but at least I would have respected the move and bought one if possible.
I completely agree with those that state it is a good idea to have separate and interchangeable straps. That is why most of us have spent $1,000+ for this item from other brands or have had them made to order. I even purchased a Fendi strap for a possible Hermes bag I don't even have! I love Fendi, but the aesthetic of Fendi to me is "super crazy, very trendy, but also well made", so Fendi, you do you. Hermes, please, you do you.
I love the idea of using classic Hermes heritage design into a strap, whether in silk or leather, but this is not that.
I do love the black strap with metal. If I had limitless money I might get that one for the same reason as I bought the Fendi strap or why I buy a pack of gum. "Might as well, why not?" My opinion is more based on disappointment at the creative (i.e. NOT creative) direction Hermes took with this one. I can't believe they had so long to come up with something and they went in such a derivative, generic direction.

Not so crazy about the straps, but I find the Kelly bag handles interesting...can't imagine the x-tra hours it takes to make these K handles...would love to see the stitching up close. My fave so far is the black K - thanks for the pics!

What's that saying again? There's nothing new except what's been forgotten...?

Agree with fellow tPFers on being disappointed that Hermes is following in the footsteps of other houses like Fendi and LV with these straps. (That said, you've been able to order extra straps from LV for decades before Fendi Strap You's came along.) I think they are a fun twist and a more efficient way to get a longer strap for your Kelly, for example, than waiting for a custom order -- so in that case, I might still partake.

The coloured handles don't bother me as much though. They always make limited edition bags for their fashion show every season, so not sure why that's a big deal. Great for the collector, and gone by next season if you don't like them.
