Anyone else drop their bag off for simple cleaning at Madison store in early April and still waiting to get it back? Their estimate was Aug 11th but now it’s two weeks past the date and my online status still shows no change. Do you think I should call them or just be patient?
I am waiting, ETA now is October. Have you asked the status? If it was just for cleaning and it is in the U.S., you should receive it soon.

Wow this is so helpful! I'm concerned about preloved purchases being for a bag that's gone to non Hermès repairers.
Then you get the back and put it in for repair and they refuse to fix it. Understandable, but it highlights the risks for buying on the preloved market.
The only way if you cannot do an inspection yourself is to require a statement about any repairs to the bag and try and include that in the conditions of sale as a term. It's very tricky, but I do love preloved for a variety of reasons. Quality is one. Price is another.
Lots of resellers in Japan now say they don’t know and won’t guarantee if the bag has been repaired/repainted outside of hermes nowadays if it is not obvious.

Yikes. The first thing you need to do is get in contact with the seller to figure out their take on the situation (re: What is the cause of the streaking? Why was it not disclosed?).

To me, it looks like a haphazard, DIY paint job. Based on the hardware, construction, stamping, etc., this a very old bag. I’m sure it was painted to hide cracking/dryness, as it’s next to impossible to find a bag of this vintage on the secondhand market without some form of cracking/dryness. That being said, if you wanted to make sure that it’s not just residue from a cleaning job, you could use a leather PH wipe (maybe check @docride ’s thread for recommendations) to see if the residue goes away.

In the very likely case that this is a botched paint job, Hermès will definitely not accept the bag to Spa. In that case, if you decide you still want the bag, there are many third-party services who may be willing to work on your bag. Best of luck!
Thank you! I appreciate the response.

Yes, it def wasn’t disclosed and as apparent in pictures. I don’t believe the seller had any ill intent, rather is inexperienced in these matters. I’m going to see what options exist in getting this fixed and restored, as it’s a beautiful bag otherwise.🤞🏻

Hello. Am new to this forum and Hermes world in general. I dropped off a Birkin 30 today at an Hermes store for cleaning and conditioning. The receipt I received only said 'thank you for submitting your product for repair'. With no details at all of the product. I texted the SA to ask and her reply was 'we will be able to see it in our system'. I haven't received any email confirmations. May I ask if this is normal? I handed over a Birkin but have nothing to show for it other than 'a product' receipt haha

Hi,
Yes - in my experience this is standard procedure. 😊

Hi everyone. I have a Toolbox in Swift that got a mysterious discoloration/ stain located near the opening. I have no idea how it got there and do not recall it being there when I stored it away in its dustbag. I took the bag to Hermès and the SA there sent it to the Spa thinking they will be able to fix/cover that spot. I was pretty confident it would come back looking restored however when I was contacted by email, I was told they would apply "makeup" to the area (along with cleaning the entire bag and hardware, minus the interior) however they said there is no guarantee it would be covered and that they would do their best. With a few more interactions trying to get info on the process details the SA told me to know for sure, I'll have to give the go to move forward and then the Artisan would be able to work on it and then I would find out. So in other words, if they are not able to cover the stain, I still pay for their attempt. Has any one been told this before. Do they not have my exact paint color to be able to spray over the spot? With further back and forth email correspondence with the SA (I felt I was trying to squeeze water out of a dry sponge) , even asking her to advocate for me by asking the Artisan, I finally got a response that was 2 fold....that there is no guarantee it would be covered and also the stain will remain. Both statements were in the same email. With that said, I declined and requested my bag to be returned as I did not send my bag to be cleaned, but to get the stain covered. It would be a huge disappointment and imo, a waste of money, to have my bag returned looking pretty much the same, as it is in very good condition to begin with, even the hardware having no visible scratches. Can anyone explain what is involved with the Hermès Spa as far as covering stains/discoloration? Is it paint, dye or polush that they use? I have a pic below of the discoloration. I'm surprised they were not confident to say they would be able to cover it as its not all that bad. I've seen Birkin bags corners get totally covered and looked perfect afterwards. Why not mine? :(

That is totally typical verbiage. They usually underpromise what they can accomplish in writing and upon delivery you will just be surprised, some bags come back totally revived and some come back literally looking exactly the same. “Makeup” is just color retouching as needed, but they tend to do less vs more, so I would be prepared to pay for it and have it look just slightly better, and possibly be surprised if it looks much better. Yes, you will pay the same whether the touch up makes it look much better vs just a little better, and unfortunately you have to be ok with the uncertainty. I’m sorry about what happened to your bag; looking at the mark, I don’t think it will look like new, but I would expect some range of looking a lot better to looking almost exactly the same. My store does not have an in-house artisan, so if yours does, you may have a different experience as far as being able to communicate with artisan or your sales associate being able to communicate with them in an in-depth way.

Thank you so much for explaining. No, unfortunately there is not an Artistan at my location. :( I just find it odd that the bag is there in front of the Artisan's face and he or she can't tell me it will look 50% better or what have you. Even just to say, " I can't make any promises, however in my experience with discoloration such as yours, in Swift leather, there is usually a good outcome of covering a stain such as yours.....OR there is not much success, etc. I would be able to accept that in my spirit and be able to say immediately yes do it or no, do not. All the back and forth email was just ridiculous, as seriously, I felt as if I was trying to squeeze water out of a dry sponge to get details and a direct answer. Lol. I am not that person that will pay for service with a 50/50 chance of not receiving what I'm paying for. Lol. Do you know if there is an Artistan at the Hermes at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa or Los Angeles? I know, what a bunch of venting I'm doing. Hahaha. Now I have to wait about 2 more weeks to get my bag back. I dropped of my bag at Hermes Aug 13. Well thank you for allowing me to vent my frustration. Hugs :)

I had the same issue.
I sent my bag in for make up, cleaning and edges to freshen up.
My bag was already in very good condition and they cleaned it, refreshed the corners and the edges but not the light stains on the front. They said that they can’t do it as they would have to treat the whole bag and they don’t do that.
Later on, I went to speak to an artisan and she took my bag in for a little bit and said they can’t remove the stains because they are deep.
They don’t repaint whole sections. Just small areas.
I suspect that the difficulty with your bag is the unique color as for mine too. Gold of black would be easier to fix…
I am actually thinking of eventually getting a small polish in my bag color and try it on a small area.
I managed to fix a Chanel discoloration like that by finding the exact same color. And you can’t even tell that I did.

Think there is an inhouse artisan at the Beverly Hills location, but not 100% positive,
you may want to call to confirm
