Hermes quota bag wish system - feel torn getting offered different style and if I do not take this, my queue goes back to the beginning

This is indeed a very odd system you are dealing with. I have never heard of a bag offer that is not what the client requested effectively serving as a "take it or start over".

FWIW Togo is fine with a few raindrops, maybe more than a few ;) , certainly as robust as Epsom, but if what you really want is a noir sellier Kelly in Epsom or Box, you should hold out. Epsom and Box are very different, of course, but in sellier you are most likely to be offered one of these two leathers.

I accepted a bag a little over a year ago that was a true classic, but the wrong color hardware for me (Noir Togo K28 retourné but GHW) and I still haven't carried it, so small things can end up making a big difference. Wishing you luck.
According to one of manager this happens a lot (clients offered what they didn't put wish for, but ”similar” like colour or leather or size are same as wish ), but acording to the manager, above 95% people take the offer and become happy than no offer.

Is someone experiencing the same in perhaps Europe?

I am in Europe. I have of course been offered bags that are not what I asked for and/or that I do not want. But I have never experienced that rejecting any bag hurts me in terms of receiving another offer.

I'm not in Europe but because of your store's policy, of course most people are taking the offer because they don't want to wait all over again even if it's not quite right!

I would wait. You don't seem sold on retourne and part of me wonders if this could set the precedent that you'll take whatever they give you. There's also no guarantee that taking this one will get you a sellier next time.

If you're still on the fence, can you see it in person first? I wasn't sure how I felt about sellier, although I had an inkling that it might be too formal for my lifestyle, so my SA offered me one. Once I saw it, I knew for sure it wasn't for me so I declined and there were no hard feelings.

Good luck with your decision!

This is a great point @SpringandSummerLover , have you tried on both sellier and retourné? IIRC you placed an SO a while back, did you try sample bags in the process?

I originally thought I wanted only sellier; now I love both and prefer retourné in a 28 (just because I am very not-tall). It's funny-sad that the bag you are offered and don't want is a bag I have wanted forever and feels like the only combo I am never offered

Nonetheless I am not a fan of taking any bag you don't absolutely love.

If you may buy other bags in future and you intend to build a collection of "keepers", I think there is merit in being open-minded about the offer even though it is not your wish (provided you genuinely love it for what it is and don't feel like you're settling). I find that over the years my bag preferences oscillate, particularly in relation to sellier vs retourné and although originally like @QuelleFromage I thought I would only want sellier, there is certainly room for both in my collection. Right now I seem to be in a retourné phase and I'm also using my Ks more than my Bs, but I know in a year or two things could be different and when they are, I'll probably already have the bag I feel like carrying in my collection.

Thank you everyone for comments. Very interesting. For me over years my preference of palladium vs gold (and white gold vs yellow gold on jewelleries - yes I initially liked yellow gold and then white gold) oscillates, so retourne vs sellier might oscillate too. To be honest even I am in the sellier love phase now, I like retourne for its cuteness especially smaller sizes, plus I prefer Togo as leather as well.
I am wowed by @QuelleFromage ’s 8 years retourne Kelly. Did you see the picture?
I didn’t know (if you stores properly) the retourne Kelly will keep the shape so well after 8 years (impressed).

Keepers - learned a new word! Did you mean that as for future use and collection to see and enjoy?

This is so so well said ! That is a nice feeling that when your preference changes you already have in your collection. I will remember that :D

I am a neutral person. I like black, neutral or pastel. It sounds boring but I would not mind same colors in retourne / sellier perhaps, than in a colour I do not use often.

Thank you. Yes I tried.

I am sorry that if I sounded like I was commenting on particular bag as good or bad. It is just I was trying to figure out for me yes or no.

I really find @Veritybelle ’s comment on our taste sometimes oscillates interesting.

I was using "keepers" as slang to refer to bags that I intend to keep forever to use and enjoy. Of course, I think all H bags are keepers because they are classic and timeless.

To make matters worse. Both Kellys in size 25, Black Retourne Togo at Claridges London, Black Sellier Chevre Special Order at Opera Garnier, Paris. I am not a black bag person, but I have these two and use them both for travel and relatively casually. They hold up well. My advice however painful is to decline and wait for the one which is perfect for you. Edited to add both were offered by / ordered with my SAs in London and Paris. It's not easy and I wish you good luck. :flowers:
