Hermes quota bag wish system - feel torn getting offered different style and if I do not take this, my queue goes back to the beginning

May I ask what is your favourite bag style in noir? Do you have same style (like Kelly) and same size ?
Do you use your several noir bags in different leather or/and hardware in different occasions? Or, do you use your favourite noir more?

I replied @cravin too but my wish included Noir Picotin and Noir sellier Kelly, and I started to think I can use kelly retourne instead of noir picotin as both have a cute casual vibe comparing to sellier noir. (And I will delete my wish of Picotin noir after purchasing this kelly retourne noir )

My all-time favorite bag style in Noir (regular leather) is my K28 sellier in epsom leather with GHW. I would never buy any Kelly in retourne again because I hate bags getting out of shape 🫠

To be honest, I do not use bags in the same color/style very often.. would not recommend it. I prefer to take another bag style if you want to go for the same color again. I own a C1-24 in Noir box calf leather with GHW because I already have Kelly/Birkin in Noir (alligator, epsom, togo etc.) and it’s perfect for the evening where an exotic bag would be too much.

I think, IF (I know it is IF) I am offered K28 Sellier Noir in the future which is one of basic colours so it is for sure possible if I am patient, I will 100% bring it home, and then I can imagine myself that I will be using less K28 Retourne Noir of this time.That is more my concern, not the concern of I will not like the K28 retourne noir.. if you know what I mean.

Price increases in January so I prefer to purchase in December, but of course 10% of price or whatever increase should not be that big factor anyway... I am usualy clear about pass or take, but since the system is like "Might go back to the begining of the queue" - I am very torn I guess...
Before, my SA ask store manager and he/she only asks what I like and discussed in advance... I do not fancy this system of "take or not then go back to the beginning of queues system".. any thoughts anyone? How do you handle this system better?

You need to ask yourself which bag do you see yourself using ..K28 sellier is boxy and formal , K 28 retourne is informal and easy to use. I have thé sellier version And while I love it for it's looks I think I would have preferred the retourne for my lifestyle.

My SA says I should take this K28 and we will try sellier next time..
I wish the system was like they only "offer" the bag of my wish exactly. (I can only choose one style sellier or retorne on my wish and of course I choose Sellier... I feel what is the point of wish if I get offered different ones than my wish...and if I do not take it not only I wait but I go back to the last of queue again.)

How tall are you? Personally I find the sellier style a bit overwhelming for petite frames in 28 or larger. Of course thats personal style choice. But I find the sellier style easier to use in 25 and retourne works in all the sizes, esp if you want a more casual daily bag.

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably take the retourne 28 noir and put in my wishlist for a k25 sellier...

Hermes just offered me a quota bag but this is not on my hermes system wishlist. I need to decide by tomorrow.

I am in a country that wishlist is valid for up to 12 months and you can only get a quota bag after at least 3-4 months of creation date of your wish.

According to my SA, if I do not take this bag offer, my "wishlist" is anyway marked fulfilled and my queue for my wish will go back to the beginning.

Yes, I do NOT mind waiting until my wished bag comes, but isn't it so wrong that even Hermes offered the bags I did not even put on my wish, and if I do not take it, I go back to the last queue again? Is it normal in your boutique?

How do you handle this? Would you talk with manager that you will skip this bag (not in your wish) but ask not to queue from the beginning?
Did this happen to you? Or, is it just happening to me? This did not happen with my previous SA but perhaps system changed?

I need to decide and I feel torn. The bag offered is a nice bag but it is just that it was not on my wish. I can see usage of this bag though. I purchase regular across categories, and in 2023 I only purchased one quota and one non-quota as I wanted to focus on my wish only.

Comments would be so appreciated.

I am a big fan of togo retourne. All of my bags slouch for sure. It does not bother me- I like a more casual look. My bags are bigger too so it is harder to keep them full which could prevent slouching while in use. I always stuff them when I am not using them and it does not help much. But again, it does not bother me personally. I hope this helps!

The more I think about the offer, I think it is probably better to talk to a manager. (I think it is not great when hermes offers something which was not on my wish, and if I do not take it my wish queue will go back to the beginning..)

I think it is definitely different enough if you choose Box and different hardware but I am someone who doesn't like to mix hardwares, so that changes everything for me. In the end, I think it is really up to you and you have to feel good about it! Both amazing options, so can't go wrong really.. just a test of patience!

You are right about hardwares - so, I probably will end up collection main basic colors with two different HW.
Also somehow for me HW color on Noir and Etoupe bag especially changes atmosphere of the bag more than it does on a light beige bag.
Box is shiny and Togo is matte - two completely different vibes ! (and I have swift as well - which is different sort of matte...)

K28 Sellier Noir- what a nice one! That was on my original wish list. And Hermes offered me retorne and says if I do not take it my wish is fulfilled and my queue goes back to the beginning - I do not know how to handle this situation. I shall speak to them.

I wish they only offer what are in my wish from the beginning..

Boxcalf C1-24 sounds so dressy and perfect for the evening ! (Aww, exotic dark color would be so dressy and nice too ! )

I simply would not take a bag that was not my dream bag.
While many of us will agree that H policy is a bit off putting, would hold out for the bag
of my dreams, & if it means having to start afresh, sadly fair or not, it is what it is & would
want to get the bag I want & not settle due to a fulfilled wish list
Certainly you should speak to the SM & share your thoughts if that will make you feel
better, JMO

However, if it’s close I could be tempted! For example a dark blue instead of a dark green, or something the SA put aside because it might match some RTW I recently bought, or maybe a 3-in-1 etc.

May I ask - what was your intention for your wishlist bag when you first had your appointment? Was it going to be for the summer, for a particular sort of occasion, outfit etc?

If the bag you’re offered might still serve the purpose you intended then I would be very tempted, otherwise, I would wait. It might be another 6 or 12 months, but I’m sure your SA would understand if you told them why.

To your point about the bag being nice - Of course the bag will be a nice bag, it is from Hermes! But there is no point in buying the nice bag if you won’t ever use it. If it were me, I would be sorely tempted to get it….I think about my wishlist once or twice a day (madness I know)….but would have to tell myself that if it won’t serve a purpose, I will end up resenting the purchase at some point.

I just need to take a breath and talk with SM, because my reason to talk is not to upset them or complain.
I received this bag offer email from backoffice, CCing my SA, so of course this bag distribution team does not know my taste, or even what bags I already have than the ones you can clearly see in the system..

It is difference of Retorne and Sellier. Color is ok and hardware is ok.

So, my intention originally was either "easy to match with everything bag with an option of strap" and "OK for rainy day" (Epsom noir), or a super elegant bag which transfers from lunch to dinner (box leather noir). Two different type - and I was going to take if either of them comes.

I am offered Togo retorne kelly. Your comment made me actually think that Togo is actually ok for rainy day as well as epsom.
Is it true that Epsom and Togo is sort of ok for a bit of rain drop? - I mean no leather is ok but I hear Box is so delicate for water.

If so, this offer might fill the purpose..hmm.

I think you’re right about the leather. Certainly they make a lot of the dog collars in Epsom so I think it is robust and relatively ok with water.

I actually looked at some of your posts on another thread and I think that should this happen to me, I would be equally torn. I walked in for my wishlist and they had sample bags, I had an open mind and was stuck deciding on what I would write down. They took a Birkin 30 out first and I thought “how beautiful”, but then they took the K28 in sellier and I knew … it has to be this. They took out the retourne- and it was beautiful too. But I love the elegance of the sellier.

There was some great advice on the other thread also about other bags in your collection& could you get a sellier next time in the same or different colour. That answer is going to be very personal to you but I think it’s a good thing to consider.

If you decide to take it in my opinion the retourne will not have quite the same versatility (ie can be worn informal cross body canvas strap AND the next day change strap and more elegant lunch) as the sellier but … could you consider the Kelly elan in box, that would be a lovely formal bag for “next time”. I have seen one with a little bit of a metal chain in the strap and that is just 👩‍🍳👌 perfection!

This is how the obsession starts of course…. There is always the “next one” or “dream bag”!!

There are various posts about clients & their "wish lists" & how long it takes for their "dream bag"
to finally make it into the boutique. Not too many will settle either if they are particular & you comment
COLOR IS OK & HARDWARE IS OK.. is just being OK acceptable to you?
Each leather offers the versatility someone is looking for & for many it comes down to
personal preference just like size does as well as (sellier vs retourne) practicality concerns
You should not feel that you have to accept a bag & once sharing your thoughts (nicely)
& following the lead of the SM who may give you some insight into their offputting system
you may find your perspective changing..
PATIENCE IS KEY AT HERMES FOR SURE..
Personally. I'm a fan of BOX leather, love how it wears & the patina it develops over time. Not
necessarily concerned about rain, but haven't had any issues with blisters.
A short time ago purchased Lindy in clemence.. couldn't be happier with the leather, size & color
At some point in time, hope you will find the bag you are wanting

This is indeed a very odd system you are dealing with. I have never heard of a bag offer that is not what the client requested effectively serving as a "take it or start over".

FWIW Togo is fine with a few raindrops, maybe more than a few , certainly as robust as Epsom, but if what you really want is a noir sellier Kelly in Epsom or Box, you should hold out. Epsom and Box are very different, of course, but in sellier you are most likely to be offered one of these two leathers.

I accepted a bag a little over a year ago that was a true classic, but the wrong color hardware for me (Noir Togo K28 retourné but GHW) and I still haven't carried it, so small things can end up making a big difference. Wishing you luck.

I have a K28 retourne that I almost never use. I prefer sellier. I would wait for what you want.
