Hermes quota bag wish system - feel torn getting offered different style and if I do not take this, my queue goes back to the beginning

K28 Noir Retourne palladium hardware


I am based in a country in Europe. Wishlist lasts 9-12 months and bag can be only offered after at least 4 months after wish is listed.
So unlike other areas, according to my SA, when I pass the bag offered, my queue will go back to the beginning, so possibly need to wait at least 4 months, or 6 months and maximum 12 months.

I am offered a K28 Noir Retourne with palladium hardware, even I only put my wish of K28 Sellier Noir with palladium. (I only choose sellier when placing wish.)
IF you were me in a country which it is not like "if I pass now, perhaps within 1-2 months my SA will offer", what would you do?

It is not that I hate K28 retourne, but it is different from my 1st wish.

I am happy to wait 1-2 months which is no problem, but if I need to wait 6 months or up to 1 year, I feel perhaps I would better to take it....I feel torn.

I would take it IF you like the offer and would be happy with it, knowing you may not get your wish for a year or even ever since nothing is ever guaranteed! Other thing to consider is if you would be sad that you didn't say yes to current offer - meaning would you miss it and wish you had it even after you get your first wish? I have previously asked for things that have been sometimes unattainable/not available to me in the moment and been offered close seconds which I love and have accepted knowing that if I said no, I would probably miss the bag and been sad while waiting for an undisclosed time and seemingly forever - very personal decision!

I think, IF (I know it is IF) I am offered K28 Sellier Noir in the future which is one of basic colours so it is for sure possible if I am patient, I will 100% bring it home, and then I can imagine myself that I will be using less K28 Retourne Noir of this time.That is more my concern, not the concern of I will not like the K28 retourne noir.. if you know what I mean.

Price increases in January so I prefer to purchase in December, but of course 10% of price or whatever increase should not be that big factor anyway... I am usualy clear about pass or take, but since the system is like "Might go back to the begining of the queue" - I am very torn I guess...
Before, my SA ask store manager and he/she only asks what I like and discussed in advance... I do not fancy this system of "take or not then go back to the beginning of queues system".. any thoughts anyone? How do you handle this system better?

You're welcome! Apologies, I thought it was K28 in gold before as the offer. Yes, agreed, if too close to original offer and not exactly what you wanted, then would only take it if you feel that it is beautiful enough that you don't feel you need original request anymore! Can only know by seeing it and seeing how you feel - if still lust for a sellier noir, I would say pass. Good to consider the leathers as well though since the retourne leathers are different and you may prefer it when you see it! My SA always seems to find things for me that I love and sometimes more so than even my original ask so hope the same for you! Good luck with your decision!

From your hesitation, you’re answering your own question. You want sellier, so wait for sellier. The bags are too expensive to just “settle” for and not love.

You are right.. so original my wish was Noir Sellier Kelly in Box or Epsom. I think, if I get this K28 Noir, I would probably not get Kelly Epsom Noir but would have a special place in my heart for Box..

I think this time I was looking for "workhorse" bag, or completely different elegant bag which is for me Box Sellier and I would be happy whichever it comes.

I know togo retourne and epsom sellier is totally different bag (I have other colors in both style) but be it in rainy or snowy day, I can use both bags more comfortably. So in this sense, Togo retorne noir and Epsom Sellier noir works. Or, it is possible I am convincing myself.

Do you think I can still get Kelly in Noir retourne and then in the future Noir Box Sellier? (I have heard box leather is not great for rainy days)
Perhaps different hardware than this time? Or, is it too close?

My SA says I should take this K28 and we will try sellier next time..
I wish the system was like they only "offer" the bag of my wish exactly. (I can only choose one style sellier or retorne on my wish and of course I choose Sellier... I feel what is the point of wish if I get offered different ones than my wish...and if I do not take it not only I wait but I go back to the last of queue again.)

I think this time I was looking for "workhorse" bag, or completely different elegant bag which is for me Box Sellier and I would be happy whichever it comes.

I know togo retourne and epsom sellier is totally different bag (I have other colors in both style) but be it in rainy or snowy day, I can use both bags more comfortably.

Of course you can get another Kelly bag in Noir after accepting one in the same color. I own several bags in Noir; only different leather or/and hardware. Box leather is very delicate and will get water marks.

There is no guarantee. Only you can answer whether you’d love the retourne bag. My wife wanted to get another 28cm Kelly in retourne as she finds her Sellier one to be bulky at times, but she loves both. If you won’t love it, then what’s the point of buying it in the first place? You can always go with the resale market if your dream bag doesn’t come in next year. Unfortunately only you can decide what will work for your own happiness and satisfaction.

There is no guarantee. Only you can answer whether you’d love the retourne bag. My wife wanted to get another 28cm Kelly in retourne as she finds her Sellier one to be bulky at times, but she loves both. I think I LOVE retorne bag YES, as long as it is not too slouchy (that is why I avoid TC for me. If this offer is TC I pass but it is in Togo, Assuming it will not be too slouchy..).
But the thing is I will love MORE sellier for this color.

Perhaps I can think this retourne bag as an alternative of picotin which I do not have in Noir, then I can get Sellier in the future.

Do you use your several noir bags in different leather or/and hardware in different occasions? Or, do you use your favourite noir more?

I replied @cravin too but my wish included Noir Picotin and Noir sellier Kelly, and I started to think I can use kelly retourne instead of noir picotin as both have a cute casual vibe comparing to sellier noir. (And I will delete my wish of Picotin noir after purchasing this kelly retourne noir )

You are considering a very expensive item. Do you have many already and will buy more in the future (you do not have to answer me "out loud")? In that case, buy this bag and later you will get the other one. If this is your one big purchase, do not settle. You will carry this bag for decades to come, what's another few months waiting for it.

I love Hermes leathers so I think I will buy more in the future. Seeing my other bags, I know I should add more colors but I like basic colors, so Noir has always a place to be used...
I am quite new to Hermes and all bags are still new, do you think retorne togo will be slouchy and can not keep shape after a decade? I can feel TC will slouch since it is much softer.

I think it is definitely different enough if you choose Box and different hardware but I am someone who doesn't like to mix hardwares, so that changes everything for me. In the end, I think it is really up to you and you have to feel good about it! Both amazing options, so can't go wrong really.. just a test of patience!

I am a big fan of togo retourne. All of my bags slouch for sure. It does not bother me- I like a more casual look. My bags are bigger too so it is harder to keep them full which could prevent slouching while in use. I always stuff them when I am not using them and it does not help much. But again, it does not bother me personally. I hope this helps!
