Hermes Purchase Regrets

My regrets (or maybe not so much regrets as I got older and taste changed):
-Costume jewelry. Especially double tour Kelly bracelet when they were quite popular. It looks clunky on my wrist.
-Unusual pops of colors. It reminds me of being a teenager. Now I find they’re so hard to match my outfits.
-SLGs. Bought more than I needed. Now I find it’s a hassle to change SLGs and transfer money, cards, etc.

This is why I have just a few now. I find I like a small wallet and a calvi and maybe a bastia. I am too lazy to change wallets often. I try to keep out a few bags to rotate them, and changing wallets just slows me down.

I just wanted to add my Hermes regrets for the things I DIDNT buy...
35cm raisin B with PHW I was offered in around 1998-by my SA on sloane st-I didn't have the £ at the time due to just having purchased a 1st property so said no.
the 32cm Ardennes Hac in Havana within budget I saw/tried in a consignment store in London in September-I got talked out of it by DH and my closest friend because of job uncertainty due to the effects of the pandemic on my business (or rather the business I am in)...
I still feel sad about walking away..shallow as that sounds in the general scheme of things but even writing about it makes me feel melancholy.
and finally-the black croc Kelly I missed out on in a upmarket charity shop in San Francisco back in 1990...I didn't have enough credit on my card and by the time I'd transferred funds to buy it it was- Friday day before I flew back to the UK on an early flight.....I turned up at the shop at around 2pm and because it was a Jewish charity the shop was shut!!!!
I've told the whole story in another thread somewhere on the forum but it was 100% authentic, vintage 32 with the box.
but I guess it wasn't meant to be!
and one final one-when I had a part time job in Liberty in the mid 2000's they started selling pre-loved bags..one was a indigo blue Constance in ostrich with gunmetal hardware-it was about £1500 but as I'd taken the job to cover my mortgage whilst going through a messy break up (which left me paying for all his debts!) I couldn't buy it-I tried to get a friend to buy it but she wasn't in love with it and so I sold it to a customer who came in one day and took the plunge.
Strangely of all these the Ardennes Hac is the one that saddens me most!

there will be plenty more opportunities, no need for regrets. I am really looking forward to my next Paris trip: I never really took enough advantage of my business trips, I was always too rushed and felt a bit guilty for spending ANY time on myself. Well, not any more...

My regrets so far has been the spur of the moment purchases that get shown to me when I’m at the store. Some things I absolutely have no intention of buying but it’s my shopping mentality maybe driven also by covid being cooped up inside the house and all. When I get home I’m like why did I even buy that or will I even use it? Luckily it’s been minor and small things, sometimes i would ask to exchange it sometimes I do not and I just end up using them as gifts.

i passed on a great deal on a gorgeous pre loved, great condition blue ostrich B30, phw.

I passed on a barenia crinoline B30, phw

IDK what I was thinking, but if I get the chance again. . .

agree with @Brightcastle re Evelyne 33, but every so often I wish E29 had a bit more room.

years ago, I consigned a great deal (H sample sale private day) 30 Nero troika evercalf bolide, phw, and I’m still regretting it. . .

happy holidays all!

I regret my Evelyne 33 purchase. I wanted a crossbody bag and just love the style but the size is too big for me - it just weighs me down. Subsequently bought a size 29 and that works much better for me.
I’m curious... would you say you fell for those items because they were lovely in the heat of the moment, or that you bought them for the “game”?

Whenever I regretted something (and exchanged it), it was mostly “ooh, it’s pretty” with a dash of “I can afford that” and a pinch of “I could use it for [insert improbable occasion here]”.

I would have to honestly say it was definitely for the game as I am still new to Hermes and was desperately hoping to score a quota bag - in which it paid off and I have a bag now and I plan on taking it slowly moving forward as I now that think back, I spent too much too quickly.

With this being said, it was always small items I end up buying that was unplanned for so I would somewhat regret it but I know I can find use for it. For example, as I was trying shop across the categories, I ended up accumulated several mugs haha do I need that many mugs? Probably not, but they’re still brand new so I think I can always gift them. I was always rational in the sense that I would never buy anything I know I wouldn’t like just for the game, but the game did drive me to buy certain unplanned items if that makes sense. My SA pushed me to buy anything I didnt like either but she would show me things I never initially planned on buying haha

I have had a few Hermès purchase regrets AND offer regrets actually :-s

Purchase regrets
  1. My two B40s, way to big for me but I felt 40cm was perfect for a guy. Now I know better and just go with the size that fits your frame when it comes to bags.
  2. Ulysse PMs I got two in because I loved the colors (Malachite and Bleu Nuit) and here in Sweden we never knew when or what the store would receive, so I jumped on it when I saw the colors.
  3. The bowtie I figured would be perfect for my wedding. On the wedding day when getting dressed I realized it first of all looked too small and second of all clashed with the rest of the suit. It ended up with me and my BFF taking the limo to the Hermès store, on the way to the ceremony, to return it and exchange it to another :angel:

Offer regrets
  1. Not getting the B30 in Malachite with permabrass when I was offered it back in 2018.
  2. Not getting the K28 in Bleu Nuit with GHW when offered it in 2017.
  3. Not getting the Kelly Long Wallet in Malachite when offered it.

My only regret is not getting started earlier. Besides my first LV bag, I have always bought my bags from the pre-loved market. And Hermes was just out of my price range. However, when I actually stepped foot into a store, I realised that their products were actually way below the listed prices in the reseller market. Now I'm addicted to H. I wish I had started earlier because the prices just keep going up every year.
I got offered my first Birkin 30 in black with silver hardware. I accepted because I feel black is great staple piece. As much as I wanted a color one this being my offer I think is still great purchase. I know Birkins hold their value but I also got offered a mini roulis elsewhere and I love the Color and the style but I don’t know if this is a hard to find style? Color is beautiful. I’m afraid of passing it up and regretting later.
