I live in humid and also rainy climate so I have only use my BBK 28, 2 or 3 times only because I am so worried after reading how fragile Box leather is. But I really like the look of Box leather especially on Kelly Sellier. I am wondering if I apply water repellent treatment as what I have read on (Docride) on my BBK, will Hermes still accept the bag for Spa in the future?

Barenia is another leather I would love to consider from H but I read conflicting info from this thread. Some said: Box, Chamonix, Barenia not good for rainy climate while 2 other members said Barenia is great? Confused [emoji53]

Barenia isn't finished like Box and Chamonix so the blister issue isn't there. You can soak Barenia with water and it will be fine - in fact, that is how spa treats it. I'll post a video of me pouring a glass of water on my Birkin.....within ten minutes it is perfect again.

I am careful with my Box leather bags. Chamonix is ok in rain. Still I prefer to not wear her in that situation. My Barenia bags are fine in the rain (just be careful of oils!) These are all Hermes

If anything is done to your bag that is outside of Hermes spa then they will refuse your bag for any repair. I carry H rain jackets in each of my box leather bags so if it rains I simply put it on. There are a myriad of other plastic covers you could cover your bag with and most fold up very small, I think there is a thread here where people share what they use in lieu of the H rain jacket. The beauty of box leather is of natural aging and handling. I have both new and vintage box leather bags dating back to early 60's and treat all of them the same when it comes to protection from the elements. I've seen many box leather bags that have had something done to them and they end up very shiny which I personally do not find attractive but we all love different things about these bags. You should speak with docride and see what she recommends for you personally based on your wants and needs.

So NO NO NO water resistant/repellent treatment for all H leathers. Ok I’ll bear that in mind. Thanks.

I know people in the past have put waterproof repellents on their bags with no problems but spa has gotten so strict in recent years with what they will and won't take that for me it's just not worth the risk. Years ago I'd purchased a vintage raisin box leather kelly and brought it in for some detailing. Someone had previously used purple magic marker on one of the corners that did NOT match the bag at all. I held my breath when I brought it in for spa repair and saw the craftsman look directly at that corner of the bag. He didn't say a word and did accept the bag but he clearly did me a favor because technically he should never have accepted it. Today I know that would never happen.

But croc and gator absolutely cannot get wet. Anything else I find is really OK.

I’m not sure if I posted this already but the craftsman at Hermès Madison insists to me that matte gator can get wet. Shiny cannot, but according to him, matte is fine.

BFF and were having a conversation with him a few weeks ago and she was recalling how nuts I got when the two of us got caught in the rain while she was carrying her matte noir B35. I ran and got multiple protective bags for her, and she was appreciative but thought it unnecessary. He agreed with her and told me matte can get wet. Then he showed us a gorgeous fuchsia shiny porosus that was in for repair that had gotten wet and what the water did to it. ☹️

Anyway, I was truly surprised to hear him say that.

Hi there , I know this has been probably been asked before . Since summer is around the corner and weather can be subject to being bad some days due to rain . What materials are good ? Espom ? I want to invest into a rainy day / snow day bag . Thank you
