Hermes leather bracelets--worth it or not?

Hi Ladies and Gents,

I don't own any leather bracelets, but I have been looking at H leather bracelets for a while.

I was wondering how these leather bracelets hold up against sweat. No, I will not wear it to the gym...but I live in a hot and sometimes humid climate. I am worried that my sweat will ruin the leather.

Any input is much appreciated.

My mother told me to wear bangles and rings while I'm still young. She has stopped wearing bangles because she feels her 70 year old arms and wrists are too veiny and freckled and wrinkled. So I don't usually look at my things in terms of value, if anything my youth and what I can carry off at this age is priceless.

If you love it and it makes you smile and feel good then it's worth it.

My CDCs and KDs have held up really well but I don't live in a hot and humid climate. I know that one rule is NEVER to get them wet. Hope that helps, huh. :flowers:

It's been fine - unless you're wearing exotic which anyway you will have to be careful.

I would have said aye, as a few years back prices were "reasonable". Now CDCs costs 25% more vs four years ago where I live. So I'm saying mostly, no thank you.

Thank you, Vigee and Jadeite! I really want a barenia leather if one is available. But maybe I should stick to enamels and silver. With the price of CDC being so high, I know I will baby it too much.

If it helps, I live in a pretty hot and humid climate and my CDCs are all doing great. I've noticed on a really hot day sometimes my CDCs feel quite tight (on the same hole I always wear them on) which makes my wrist a bit sweaty - but there is no sign of wear on the leathers at all! The only part of my CDCs that shows wear is the hardware really.

I am careful with my pieces, but they have definitely been exposed to water splashes etc here and there by mistake. My bracelets are mostly exotics too. I know several people have said you need to be more careful with exotics, but I think they'd hide flaws better than swift/epsom anyway because it would just look like natural little imperfections in the ridges/bumps of the skin.

I don't have a barenia CDC, but I'd say heat/humidity/water would definitely affect barenia more.

This is good to know. I wash my hands a ton at work and worried about the stress on a leather bracelet. I have one but It was a much cheaper Marc Jacobs that was weathered looking to begi with. Can't wear bangles because they clang into people during exams. Finally, one category of H I might be able to resist...

I live in a hot and humid climate and I have more than 10 Hermes bracelets in exotic and non-exotic. I don't have any issues with my bracelets... they have held up pretty well except for slight scratches on the hardware. I'm generally very pleased with my bracelets.

As for the need to be careful with exotics, I've been really careful with my crocs... so no issues. However, my bracelet in lizard has been exposed to splashes of water but it still looks brand new! I'm not sure about barenia though, coz I turned down the offer for a barenia CDC as I don't really like the colour.

Would love to see a family pic of your CDCs if you ever get time Miss Al :D I bet you have some amazing ones!

If you have small wrist, I would really suggest you to try on different size & even same style but different leather.

Years ago, DH picked up Extra wide clic clac (S) & Epsom KDT (S) for me while on his business trip. I never got to try before (far from boutique) & thought size S was the smallest size anyway. However, I found the the KDT size S is still big for me & it turns so often. As for the extra wide clic clac is quite heavy & got quite a bit of hardware scratches on the GHW. So, I didn't bother to check on any bracelets for some times.

A few weeks ago while on a Europe Trip visiting several H boutiques. I took the time to try on different eye catching bracelets inside the cabinet. There, I try on a XS KDT in croc & surprising it's quite tight! Then, another one in size S & it fits so well. So I compared the length with my Epsom KDT size S with the Croc KDT size S, my KDT is actually a few cm longer!

Anyway, I didn't pick the croc KDT because when I compared with the Barenia CDC (S), I just love the combo of leather itself, the width of CDC, the light weight & the adjustable CDC strap that fit my small wrist! It was totally love at first sight!

Surprising after a couple weeks of continuous wear, except starting to have the smiley showing on the hardware, there isn't any other scratches. A few days ago, the Barenia caught on a few droplets of rain, there was marks in the beginning, but it disappeared at the end of the day. I also wear the Barenia during hot & humid weather & due to the natural skin of Barenia, it's turning a little darker already. In fact, I am looking forward to that day. Lastly, I feel the CDC is getting a little tight after a long hot & humid day, not sure if my wrist swell or the sweat or the leather shrink. With CDC, I can easily adjust a little bigger. Another bonus reason loving the CDC now!

I am totally biased toward the CDC. I have tried other leather bracelts such as the KD, KDT, Rivale and Hapi. I sold all of them. They were nice for stacking, if I was in the mood but nothing kept my  like the CDC. I have a large collection of exotics and leather CDCs including Barenia. I have had my Barenia for over 3 years and it is an amazing leather to own. The leather will develop a patina over time so any scratches or water marks that appear on the leather will go away from the natural oils on your finger tips. Just rub the scratch and wah-lah... gone. As far as exotics, I am very careful to wipe off the skin after washing my hands bc water splashes are obvious to me. The shine on the surface will dull after a water spot has set in. If you wipe the skin immediately, the stain will not set in. I wear my CDCs daily, even in hot weather. No issues. I say GO OR IT :smile1:

Oh, and epsom CDC would be highly recommended for you in your climate. Epsom is totoally worry free IMHO!

Thank you, MsHermesAU! I'm glad to hear that your CDCs are all doing well in hot and humid climate. May I ask the type of leather you have on your CDCs aside from exotic? I love croc but I know I will be too scared to wear it on a daily basis. I'm too worry about ruining the skin.
