Apology for my delayed reply post to all of you, I was so glued to the net trying to do Hermes / Chanel research last night that I lost track of time lol. Many thanks everyone for ALL your detailed and helpful thoughts....SO appreciated! On a side note, thanks for the birthday wishes

Soooo after reading all your post and my endless research, I have come to the same conclusion as all of you! While as much as I wish I can afford both at this time....I must regretfully choose just 1. With that said, I feel the Kelly presently will suit me best as after looking at the 226, I am not sure if that would be a bag I can functionally use as a "go to" bag...not necessarily would it be my everyday bag...but I do at times get in a mode of being a little lazy to transfer things from one bag to another daily...unless I am going to an event then of course I will change my bag. I know both of these beautiful options would be great to use for almost any occasion...but I do need to consider how much it can hold....as per bagnut1, tensgrl, QuelleFromage has shared. I am going to move towards the Kelly!!!

I actually had that thought yesterday and had the time to visit the Real Real boutique near me. This time I did spend my time look and feel of the Kelly where as the other day I was more focus on the 2.55. With the Kelly, it would be the 28cm...but now the next decision step would be Sellier or Retourne. Once again, since I can only have one (at the moment), I like the classic of the Sellier but I also do like the softer less structured of the Retourne as well as the give / flexibility of putting a few more things in the bag if needed. At the moment, I am leaning towards the Sellier...but then again all that can change after welcoming everyone's thoughts again . What are your thoughts on the togo leather or clemence (not sure how I feel about it coming from a baby bull)...I don't care so much for the box leather. I am open to hearing feedback to other leather options. I do like the PHW verses the GH, I know that the GH perhaps is a little more formal.

So now that we are on the subject of Hermes, to throw another monkey wrench into the mix.....what are your thoughts on the Birkin 30 vs the Kelly 28? I do love the elegance of the top handle and look of the Kelly....although I am not to keen of the locking mechanism of the Kelly or Birkin....definitely not a one hand operation on the fly. I was shown by the person at RR how most people enjoy their Birkin unlatched...however, I know that does not work with the Kelly. My thoughts on the B30 is that I like the tote feel where it has the multi compartments inside the bag BUT I don't know how easy it is to have it on your shoulder as a carry option. As I am not sure how comfortable / convenient it will be for me to hand hold it through out the day. That is why I also like the Kelly as it has a strap for a crossbody option..although it is a little shorter then a standard crossbody length as I know it's meant to be used as a shoulder strap. I again would appreciate and welcome your thoughts on this next step.....

Based on your latest post, I strongly favor K28 for you over the B30 given the variety of ways a K can be carried. Lots more options! Plus, you can get a crossbody strap (any brand) if so desired for another carry option. The B30 (my absolute favorite, by the way) is hand carry or crook-of-the-arm carry only which is not always convenient for some.

I also vote retourne. It’s easier to get in and out of compared to the sellier (just my opinion, of course). I’m a very casual person though, so I love the casual-ish vibe the retourne emanates. Yes, the sellier looks beautiful, but now after owning one, I usually opt for my retourne options. There is just something “easier” about it for me and my lifestyle.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop! Excited for you!

Sorry....I forgot to mention some of the bags I now own...perhaps knowing what I have will help you guide me through this crazy but exciting maze!!! Thanks SpicyTuna13 for the reminder....just realized I forgot to do so until I read your post...

So....as per my original post I am a BV aficionado...I love their bags, but I have to say I do like their classic older style as compared to the new. I understand all good things need to come to an end and change....so with BV's new designer the era of yesteryear has come to just that.

One of the reasons I wasn't thinking of the Birkin (other then the fact I can only choose 1 bag) is that I have 2 BV Cabat, Convertible tote (large size), medium leather intrecciato chain knot clutch, square double chain small bag almost the size of the Chanel square classic, a large travel tote...this one I don't consider a bag I would use daily, I use it to travel or as a large work / book tote, small intrecciato multi pocket shoulder bag and another 3 or 4 other BV bags that I feel is not really comparable to same usage as the 2.55, Kelly or B30. I also have a Prada double handle multi compartment tote, Gucci GG imprime canvas tote (I use this for my everyday bag alot), Tom Ford (TF perforated) soft leather tote with attached mini pouch, mini patent Lady Dior, 2 large Dior book tote, one being the limited addition perforated leather book tote from the Spring 2021 runway collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri, vintage Valentino leather tote with flowers, The Row crossbody bag, Michael Kors Santorini Raffia bag, small Runway (mesh) Fendi shopper tote. I have a few more bags but I feel it's irrelevant to the decision for the bags I need to make a decision for. Although I do have a Cole Haan bag that has multi pockets and such inside the bag with a detachable shoulder strap that I had used ALOT as my schlepper bag many years ago...I know it's a totally different category that what we are speaking of but thought I would mention it. I loved the bag, it's made of leather very similar to the togo leather, it's white (got dirty fast) and it did get heavy as I find myself loading it up with stuff.

By the way, I totally understand the all-nighter research and obsessing. With this amount of “fashion investment”, you want to really think and get it right!!!
Yes, I tend to do that as that is who I am by nature...no matter what the investment is. However, you are correct..it is more so at times...this being one of those times. Because I can only choose 1 and it is quiet expensive. I also like the history of things and for me it's not just about purchasing something due to a "fad" but it's because I've really thought it through and learn if it will work for me. There are times, I find liking something and after further research...it's not going to work.

You are right about the 2.55, I still haven't disengage from it completely and I like the the fact it doesn't scream Chanel all over. I to like you prefer the look of subtleness. It's not about others knowing what you have but more about yourself knowing what you have . If I go with the Kelly this time around....maybe I'll start playing the lottery and be lucky to win enough for the Reissue 226 lol

I have Kelly 28 in both sellier and retourné. They are both wonderful. I am really small (5'1" and small boned) so the sellier is just a bit big on me (sellier fits less but looks bigger - optical illusion!). The 28 retourné is a perfect bag to me (as is the 25 sellier). If you are taller, or like the look of a bigger structured bag, then either style will suit you.

Birkin 30 - great bag and I use mine a lot, but a whole other kettle of (expensive) fish. Getting the Birkin 35 on shoulder is possible but I don't think shoulder carry is even possible with the B30 - I have never tried squeezing into mine ;) . You will be hand or arm carrying it.
It's an open tote (very very rarely worn closed) so more similar to your Cabats (which are amazing bags).
If having your hands free even sometimes is important to you I would choose the Kelly.

If I had to choose one and only one H bag it would probably be a Kelly 28 retourné, a sellier if I were taller.

I’m dreaming of your BV Cabats…..always wanted to own one.

If it’s your one and only H bag, I vote K28 Togo retourne in a neutral (etoupe/etain/the like) in your preferred hardware. I think GHW looks best with neutrals, but this is a very personal preference.
Yes, from each designer I feel there is a signature bag and for BV it's the Cabat hands down. it's their only bag where it is double lined with the entrecciato leather. I have the cabano and butter yellow color.

Side question, do you use your K28 retourne for evening use too...or do you find it to casual?

The question of Kelly versus birkin . . .the birkin is a tote and yes easy to access when not all buttoned up via it sangles, turnlock. The Kelly, IMO, can be taken to functions that are dressier, or it can be worn with casual outfits.

Thanks for the thought on the B30...I did not try to squeeze in to see if I can get it onto my shoulder...that is funny and true! The Cabat, it's easy to carry on the shoulder as the drop on the handles are more forgiving then the B30 I think. I am 5'4 and small boned too...that is partially why I don't want a large bag...I feel for me larger then a K28 or B30 would be to large as then It would go into the tote category and I am not looking for that style this time around.

Side question, do you use your K28 retourne for evening use too...or do you find it to casual?

I have 2 K28s, both GHW and retourne: malachite togo and black box. I use them both in the days and evenings, but not formal events. It’s the most versatile size in my opinion. I really think you’ll love it!

Very nice!!! Gosh, I like the look of your Box leather as it doesn't look so stiff like the brown I saw at RR yesterday...maybe it's because it's the retourne...verses the S

If you’re only getting one bag, I would say Togo is still a great option as it’s a bit more carefree.

I’m somewhat in the minority in that I also think box leather is carefree — mine gets rained on, and I just wipe it down and it’s completely fine. I LOVE how box leather spas. It looks pristine afterwards. It does get supple over time with use. It does scratch easy but buffs out very well. I can't say enough great things about box leather.

There are some decent deals on preloved box leather Ks if so inclined. You just have to be persistent and on the prowl.
