I would encourage you to go to all three stores in Hawaii. The DFS is across the street from the Hermes store on Kalakaua Ave. I do make some Hermes purchases but, do not know the stock on CJ as well as many other TPFers. I have been in the DFS Galleria with one of my condo neighbors that I see on ocassion, mainly on holidays as she lives in Japan and I live in Virginia--I speak no Japanese and she speaks pretty good English. You always want what you can't have, I go shopping with her in the duty free store and she has purrchased many Hermes items, Kelly, Jyspieres, and small size Bs, wallets and ties for her husband. I watch her and always get jealous because it appears that they always have more stock. However, I couldn't say that from certainity but purely from emotion and being excited for her finding so many things.

I would absolutely check it out if I were you since you are a Canadian. Both the Waikiki store and DFS are so close if you have to time go to all three stores. Have a great time in Hawaii. I will be back in Hawaii (Kona, Waikiki-not really a shopping trip) for month in August and hope to catch up with my neighbor if her family cames back to Hawaii, I don't know when school and univeristy start in Japan for her children. Sorry for long response HTH.
No need to apologize Sassygee, your post was very helpful, thank you! I hope you have a great time in Hawaii too and get to catch up with your gf. Sounds like you both have a lot of fun together!

Good to know that the DFS duty free has lots of stock. We couldn't buy at any of the duty free there last time because we flew Alaska Airline and transferred at Seattle. In order to buy there, your must fly out of Oahu and land outside of US.

Ahh thanks so much for that tip! We were originally planning for our stop over to be in Vancouver, but also toyed with the idea of LA. Hearing this gives me more incentive now. :graucho:

Yes, when we happen to meet up. It is amazing that shopping is universal with little language barriers. She does much better then me since I only speak English fluently

I tried creatively 2 times with my Japanese friends bu all options were too costly and prone to difficulty with custom form one counrty to another and to be shipped out agin and prone to cutoms again (US-Japan-US). And like other DFS, they are very strict with the rules. You always want what you can't have.

Very true we always want what we can't have. DH was very disappointed that he couldn't buy at the Zenga store just because we didnt fly with one of the airlines in Canada. Truth is we most likely will continue fly with Alaska because we prefer the flight schedules. So no DFS duty free for us...

Hermes DFS Galleria will be closed from September, forever.

Thanks for sharing marcxjacobs, I am curious as to why it is closing at that location. I wil make sure I either see my neighbor in Kona or leave her a note if she is not in town while I am in town about the closing of the store. I know she benfitted and shopped at both the boutique and duty free since she lives in Kyoto. I wonder if other FS will be closing for coutries I am able to shop in as an American. Anytime I went to DFS is always very busy with international tourists.

There is also a DFS Hermes boutique at Honolulu airport just behind the security area, the size is just about the same as DFS.

FYI: An update, I was getting ready to have an email sent to my Kona neighbor. Prior to sending the email and having it translated in Japanese, I called the DFS Galleria Hermes and spoke to 2 people 1) the concierge who then allowed me to talk to a 2) manager (corporate) who briefly stopped into the store on the weekend and they both stated that the store is not closing now or in the future. I was aware of the airport store but as an American I have never been in that store as we are usually getting ready to head back east to DC.

I spoke with my SA at the Waikiki store and she was quite hesitant and said that she was not really sure since the are run by different management. She didn't seem suprised by the question but that was all she stated.

In summary, either they are really closing that location and do not want to disseminate that information (possible) or the information may not be true (hooray for those TPFers who are not from the US). I will delay sending my email at this time. At least we are infirmed on the TPF. For those travelling and want to inquire telephone number 1-808-931-2700.

That is interesting. They clearly are hiding the fact they are closing. As for the airport, perhaps they will remain open?

Marcxjacobs,

This wouldn't be the first time that a business tries to contain closings or other major changes. If I were in front of my SA at the Waikiki store I have a feeling she would have been more forthcoming. I did note some hesitancy. I guess international TPFers will find out soon enough in the fall.

Haha well as long as there is still one in the airport! I'm going end of September so I will try to do some research before going to find out if it's still open or not. Funny that your SA hesitated, maybe they aren't allowed to tell customers until it's officially announced.

Just made a spot trip to Oahu and got to visit Kalakaua and Ala Moana. I like going for the eye candy.

I did notice that Waikiki had the 80cm 18k farandole on display. I'm going to assume that the store acquired it recently otherwise I'm annoyed they didn't just say so when I called a few months back. No purchases for me this time, though the SAs were polite and friendly.
