I m looking to pick up a birkin 25 from reseller but the bag is missing it's clochette. The sale comes with a receipt . Anyone knows if Hermes does replacement clochette like rose pourpre? Also would anyone know if Hermes will also do hardware replacement? Thanks in advance

Hello everyone,

I’m not sure where to post this question, but this has been eating me up inside. I apologies in advance for the lengthy post.

I’m hoping that someone can help or give insight. I visited my local Hermes boutique today with the intention of getting my Hermes cape cod dropped off for just a battery replacement. This watch was purchased from a reseller and was originally purchased in 2020, although the battery is still working, it was already past the battery change date that was on the sticker.

The associate that was helping me initially said that if it’s just a battery replacement, I could just take it to any reputable Watch dealer/store and they can change the battery, I was really taken aback by this recommendation however, I still insisted that I wanted to get it done by Hermes. So he then quoted me a 6-7 months wait time to get my watch back for a battery replacement. I was really surprised by how long it will take to replace a battery. I proceeded to ask if the timeline will be the same for a full Watch service… he said yes. So I went ahead and did the full service where they check everything inside the watch since it was going to take the same amount of time to get my watch back anyway.

I was wondering if anyone knows of this new repair service policy or timeline? Has anybody experienced this from their local Hermes store recently? I had taken my H hour for battery replacement back in San Diego a couple years ago and it only took a month to get it back. I think it’s really outrageous and I feel like I got cheated for some reason.

I just moved to the DC area and don’t have a regular SA that I work with at this store. Not sure if this played a factor in my interaction with this particular SA but I didn’t feel good leaving the store.

Thank you for letting me rant… sorry for the long post but looking forward to any information or insight anyone can share.

Yes, Hermes will replace HW and a clochette. You will have to bring the physical bag into the store for them to issue you a new clochette.

Oh no, I'm sorry you had that experience. I'm actually visiting that store in the next week or two, and I want to know who to be mindful of (and set my expectations). Would you mind PM'ing me the name of that SA?

Replacing a battery in a quartz watch is a relatively simple operation and perhaps he was trying to take your experience into consideration, thinking the service queue of 7 months would be too much of a hassle/wait to be separated from your watch. Especially when a battery can be changed in less than an hour.

Within recent years, Hermes has started venturing into their own haute horology and producing their own watch movements.
Perhaps the watch services have begun to increase due to the new focus on manual and automatic movements, which are more complex operations.

Unfortunately I can’t really assess the tone or why that info wasn’t relayed to you as I wasn’t in the room when it happened, but with the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was trying to help you out by offering a more convenient option. I do feel that he should have verbalized the above - if it was the case - to give you a more informed decision.

That said, I also don’t know how strict Hermes is with third-party horology services in light of their leather ateliers’ well known strictness.

Edited to say: I think I assumed that you were asking for it to be sent out, which is probably wrong on my part. Apologies if I read incorrectly!

I agree that he was probably just trying to help me out with suggesting to get it done somewhere else to avoid the 7 month wait. However he did mention that the only difference with getting it done outside is that they don’t get to replace the water tight seal at which he added that I won’t be swimming with it so it should be okay. I didn’t like that at all, which made me insist on getting it done by Hermes After Care service. I also don’t know how strict Hermes is with third party repair services, I didn’t want any sort of future services through the store gets denied because I got it serviced by a third party. It’s for my peace of mind knowing that it was done through Hermes.

I mean the interaction wasn’t rude or anything. He was calm, I didn’t sense any type of attitude from him. I was just surprised by his recommendations and especially the long wait time to get your item back with really no reasonable explanation as to why the wait is that long.

I’m curious if that’s the new policy now with watch repair services… I wonder if this applies across all Hermes boutiques.

I think I’m just feeling the anxiety of being separated from my watch for that long which now I realized really bothers me. I really wasn’t expecting a 7 month wait for a battery replacement or any type of watch service, my expectations was based on my previous watch service which was completed within 4 weeks of dropping my item off. That’s probably why I have been delaying sending my Kelly for spa and hardware repair because of the long wait time that I read from posts in this forum. I just hope I get it back sooner than estimated.

The seven month quote makes me think they are sending it overseas somewhere which seems crazy for a simple battery replacement. Hopefully it’s just a situation of under promise over deliver.

I’m really hoping that is the case and that I will get my watch back sooner. I’m going to reach out to my SA in California to see if this is the new norm for watch services.

Need some advice: will you accept a B25 Togo in Chai offer if you already have a B30 Gold Togo? both are gold hardware. I have been lusting over chai for couple months and was hoping a K25 or K28, hence not sure if a B25 will be too similar to my B30 :confused1:

@ladysarah - Jane Birkin always carried baskets before Hermès made the bag for her.

I had to reply to this but don’t want to be OT over at the other thread.

I saw a picnic garden party which made me think of J. Birkin's original basket. I didn’t know she carried a real basket
