Two guests down (on way home via Amtrak), five to go. I am hanging in there, but they are slightly more visibly eager to leave than even the most exasperated hostess might wish. However, if I have to do one more mother-lovin' load of laundry related to these people, I'm gonna lose it for good. I am staying upstairs, sick, watching bad daytime tv and wrangling Henry, whose natural exuberance is logarithmically increased by cabin fever.

I have this image of you running through the house with Henry on your head after the last guest leaves, chanting, free at last!

You're my hero. I'd have lost it after a mere 3 days.

Actually, I do that at least once a week, with or without specific provocation. No, seriously, it's not their fault they're stuck, they don't like it any better than we do (maybe even less), and they really are good people. But it is frustrating. I just want my house back, I want to walk around in a greater state of dishabille than I permit myself with guests, I want to stop feeling self-conscious when my dogs act up, I want to fight with DH full-throttle rather than sotto voce, YOU know. I gotta be ME, I just gotta be MEEEEE, what else can I BEEEEE but what I YAMMMMMMM. . . .

Mindi - you poor thing, sounds like a horrible few days! :hugs: Hang in there!

Makes you want to bleach your eyes, doesn't it?

restricter - LOL!

I just agreed to work early tomorrow and every day from now on. I must be insane. :p

Avril: Don't you just love Ikea? I can't believe how cheap they are and a lot of things in my apartment are from there.

OMG! I just went through all the pages I have missed. You have been busy and chatty.

Hi nurse! There's good things and bad things about working early! I like to go into the office early so that I can leave at 4. Then you have lots of the evening free! But then you have to get up early. I prefer to go in early!

IKEA is amazing. We have lots of stuff from there too! We had this little bar table from there as our "dining table" for 3 years before finally getting a proper table. We have some bookcases and cabinets from there too. I saw somebody today buying TONS of stuff, like a mattress n all! Personally I would draw the line at getting a mattress in IKEA. Everything else I think is great. I think that out of all the things for a house / apartment, the most important thing to splash out on is a bed and mattress. I mean you're gonna be in there for at least a third of your day, every day, so it's gotta be well made and comfy.

Say, if nurse is around this evening, or any Peeps with parental experience, how worried should one be if a toddler ingests a tiny piece (about 1/3 of a dime, for our American Peeps) of a plastic spoon? My sense is that anything that wee will pass through the digestive tract without trouble (I would imagine children have eaten larger things without harm, and the plastic piece should be chemically inert and not toxic), but of course Mom and Dad (my BIL and SIL) are concerned. If Henry had done it, I would be concerned but probably not concerned enough to rush him to the ER. I would. . . WATCH him for any signs of excretory trouble. Does that apply to a human infant too, do ya think? Opinions? Advice? Bueller?

Sounds about right to me but I am childless. You can try popping over to the Parenting subforum and seeing if someone there knows.

So glad I have cats, except when Jinjy pees on the sofa.

If the child doesn't show any signs of respitory problems I wouldn't be too conserned. And plastic these days aren't too toxic for the child, but if your family is worried it won't hurt to drive him to the ER. Just for them to feel at ease though. I am sorry but my experience with children swallowing things are very slim. Good luck and keep us posted. :hugs:

Avril: I agree. I draw the line at beds and especially when I love to sleep. :p

Thanks, nurse. I don't think there is any thought that he aspirated it--just plain old swallowed. And in most parts of the US right now, going to the ER for care guarantees one hours and hours and hours in a waiting room with the disturbed and the infectious, so it is truly a last resort. When my parents called a nearby ER last spring (my mom was in terrible pain) they advised her that unless she was clearly in mortal danger, the wait was twelve hours. Twelve. Hours. They didn't go.

Hang in there. I can't even imagine...I would be going out of my mind.

Sorry I don't have any advice about the little one. The Nurse had good advice. Hugs.

Oh, I am sorry. Things are very different here and one never waits more than two hours. Even during Christmas. Children are normally first in line and don't wait more than 15 minutes or so. I am sooo not leaving this country yet. :p

Well, the plastic piece isn't that large and I am sure he will be fine. Just watch him and the poop. Give him yogurt. :p

Restricter: I was reading about NY this Christmas with the children. I didn't know Central Park was sooo large and full of treasures. You live in a great town!

Nurse - stay where you are! You guys seem to have a great healthcare system over there. Our healthcare is a disgrace. People are stuck on trolleys for longer than 24 hours sometimes. It's an absolute disgrace. If you need to go to A&E here (Accident & Emergency), you could be waiting for hours and hours to be seen.

Folks, I need your opinions!

I'm on the lookout for a dress because I have three :wtf: weddings to go to later next year (summer/autumn/winter). Anyway, they are all completely different groups of friends, so I'm buying one dress to wear to them all.

I'm thinking of either that blue Issa dress that Kate Middleton wore for her engagement announcement (if Net-A-Porter ever get it back in stock) or else this HL dress:

http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/c...t000000cat000001cat000009cat000019cat22870735

Is that appropriate for a wedding? A lot of the HL dresses have more of the shoulders exposed, etc. so I'm thinking that with this - the shoulders are quite wide and it's quite long too. Dunno what I could wear over it though?

Mindi, if it were LilOB...and it may be her in the very near future...I would be inclined to wait for the appearance of said plastic in the diaper. That's a pretty small piece, and I can't imagine the plastic is toxic. My only concern would be if it were a jagged piece of plastic. Most pediatricians have nurses that field phone calls from parents needing to know if they have to rush the child in STAT, so if your in laws need reassurance, they might call their pediatricia's office back home to see if they suggest a trip to the ER. Also, some hospitals have an Ask A Nurse phone service for the same purpose. I agree, I'd avoid a trip to the ER with a perfectly happy toddler, just to sit with a bunch of sniffling, sick adults, unless it was absolutely necessary.

Interesting turn of events in the SF thread, but I guess I've been on tpf too long to be too surprised. Wonder if it's that TheMrssparkles character that was on tpf awhile back, then changed to Sparkel, then got banned. Oh, there's a whole host of sofa'd characters that these trolls could be.

Restricter, hope Winky's kidney is nothing serious. I'd think that if his bloodwork and urine show nothing abnormal, it's nothing to worry about. Winky like boxcalf, I love it! Just send him to Claude and he'll be as good as new with only a 2 month wait :D

Mree and Pursecrzy, Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!! I hope you both had relaxing and fun birthdays!

I'm in serious need of Mucinex, which I forgot to buy along with baby wipes yesterday on my one outing to the grocery store. So hard to get out of the house without a huge production...parents, bundling the child into winter gear, squeezing bundled child into the too small car seat that we borrowed...or I sneak out of the house and leave my parents to deal with LilOB's screaming when she realizes I'm gone. It's just easier to keep blowing my nose.

Agree on the wait and see with the piece of the spoon. Of course, it's easy for me to say. Just wait until it's Collin and I am rushing him to the hospital! :p

When my sister first got sick (a year ago), I brought her to the ER because I knew there was something very wrong with her. After waiting 11 hours in a hallway, her in a bed, me sitting on the floor, (there was no room in the ER because it was so crowded), we were brought in a "special" room to be told she had "Bacterial Meningitis" and everyone in the hallway with us had to be treated for it as we were all exposed to it and at risk. And while we waited, her temp got so high from the menigitis, she had a stroke but we didn't find that out until afterwards. The ER is not my favorite place at all.

My vote is for a running nose. Hope you feel better soon. It must be so crazy and this weather is crazy!!
