Vibes going out for Lala!
Question for the moms--when did you start putting your child to sleep on their tummy, if ever?
CK, I think you need to wait till he can flip himself over, but it's been awhile. I think the back is always safe, and if he can turn over, he'll tummy himself, KWIM?
Morning all!
CK, I may be shot by child experts here for saying this, but, in my defence, the advice for which way to lay babies down does change from time to time! From very early days I followed my mother's advice and used a couple of rolled up small towels or blankets as bolster cushions either side of them to stop them rolling, and laid my boys on their sides, alternating which side they were on. It helped to ensure their ears were flat to their heads and they didn't get that flat back of head with bald spot that you tend to see now. I do wonder what archaelogists will make of our remains in years to come when they notice a change in skull shapes!! All I can say is that both of my boys were very good sleepers from quite early on (sleeping through from about 6/7 weeks) and they don't seem to have suffered any ill effects, but if there is any reason medically why you have been advised otherwise, then follow the doctors advice. HTH.
By the way, Jules, thanks for the lead for the France scarf (it was you, wasn't it?) DH has it hanging on the wall and it is #3 in our series of that particular pattern.
But, if I can remember when the baby was a baby, I think the conventional wisdom was to put the child one way, so I did it the other. It was counterintuitive to me to have defenseless baby on their stomach/back. Look it's been 27 years. But, whatever my mother-in-law told me, I did the opposite. It seemed to me that if he was on his back and vomited, he would choke. Or something like that. I put him on his side right away I think. You know me, a rebel without a cause. The side made the most sense to me. Because that's the way I sleep and that's probably the way he slept in utero. He also slept through each and every night.
