I'm back from my family visit - North Carolina this time (to see DH's sis). I'm exhausted, loathing United, and on a sugar high from eating sugar cake in Old Salem this MORNING! That stuff was heavenly good...which means gobs of fat and sugar!

I'll try to catch up later!

Golly, BBL, I had forgotten that after retinal surgery the patient does have to lie in weird positions (like face down) for a while. 24 hours doesn't sound bad compared to what I've heard, which was weeks . . . Sorry about the taxi, but it sounds like the family pulled together and got it done. Good for you, and best wishes to Mr. BBL for a smooth and speedy recovery.
A vet question for OB when and if she feels like puttin' her vet hat on: Is there any med that a dog can be given regularly (like, daily) that would help with loose stool? Fact is, Henry eats stuff that isn't food. Fact is, this is not something we can fully control and it will probably be a life-long issue for the little bug. So, I'm wondering if there's anything that's relatively safe that he could take long-term to help his system to cope. Miss O was on Pepcid and Metronidazole for years for her IBD and did well. . . .
restricter--Nope, no invite yet. Still a little too early, I think.
DH made a really wonderful chicken and dumpling soup last night for my post-surgical dining. It still hurt like a *(&)^%/@$^ to eat it, though, and so I was literally chewing with tears running down my face. Ridiculous, but surely a testament to DH's cooking skills!
The earthquake in NZ is terribly sad. And the situation in Libya and across the Middle East is simply terrifying. Increasingly these days I have this sense that I am huddling, hiding, here in my house in my town in my country.

What's a meatless meatball? Veggie?

BBL, good news re DH. My friend's DH had the same procedure and had to lie on his stomach for two weeks. Yikes.

Hey everyone! Wishing for GK's weather and flowers. We had 5 inches of snow this morning. Leaving for a short trip south tomorrow so maybe in between meetings I will experience warmth. lol

Thanks Lu, He has to sleep on one side of his face or the other. And, the cPap works!! This is for only one week. And, thank G-d today is the last day of "looking at the earth." How luck is he? I just don't know when he will be able to drive.
Yes, it's a veggie-ball, but it tastes remarkably not terrible when browned within an inch of its life and then cooked in sauce. Now, we have to cook it with gluten-free pasta for DS. Still haven't told DS about his DF.

Hi Girls! :sunshine:

TONS of hugs to BBL & Mr. BBL! :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: I'm pleased to hear that the surgery went well! (Sorry I was MIA yesterday---I've come down with the evil virus.)

Also, hugs to Mindi! :hugs: :hugs: Hope you are not in too much pain today.

Good morning, Mindi. Besides the fact that he looks pretty, well, not so pretty, he's okay. He had a good sleep. Nothing keeps that guy from a good sleep. He slept when he came home from the hospital in bed. I fell asleep on the couch. At some point we swapped places.
The hospital had a really nice setup. They had glass-enclosed apres-recovery rooms, where the surgeon went to find you. I went to fortify myself and get a lovely almond and chocolate confection and a coffee, plugged in my gadgets and promptly fell asleep on the huge chair, like a lounge chair. It was quite nice. I guess the surgeons don't remember what the patient's families look like, so they write the room number on the patient's sheets in ink and know to go there. Something new for me. But we haven't been to that hospital in a while.
So, we're off to the doctor for a follow up this afternoon. Good friend will drive us. I owe him not only money, but a hugely yummy meal.
Thanks again for asking.
It's good to be in a safe place and not under the sticky. There have been issues and I am very hurt and ashamed....

It sounds like it was a lovely set up at the hospital, BBL. It's nice when they take things like that into conisderation.

I hope the follow up visit goes smoothly. :hugs:

Mindi, I'd suffer for chicken and dumplings! How are you feeling today? Did they give you some good drugs?

Re HenHen, I'm sure that daily metronidazole would keep his stool firm, but I try to reserve that only for when the stool doesn't firm up once the offending item passes through. He might grow out of it...both the eating nonfood stuff and the tendency to have diarrhea afterwards. You could do fiber daily, like pumpkin or metamucil, but I seem to recall that you tried that and it didn't work (?). An alternative to something daily would be to get the correct dose for Immodium or Pepto from your vet, update dosage as he grows, that way you'd have something on hand to curb the runny stool (usually in one or two doses) without needing to medicate him daily.

Thank you, OB! He's on Flagyl/Metronidazole now (liquid form--he loves it! Silly dog) and the stool is still iffy. This may just be HenHen's lot in life. And mine. It's so odd--the first stool of the morning is okay, and then after breakfast, anything goes. He is an excitable little beastie, and that might have something to do with it. (When he gets really worked up and his blood pressure rises his ears get fluorescent--Since he is a true redhead with very pale skin, it's quite striking. :p) We did use Pepto with him once already and it helped, so that will be a good emergency backstop. The vet wanted us to try this hypoallergenic vegetarian food (it's nasty, cereal-y stuff) and he vomited that up pretty promptly, so I'm not eager to continue that experiment. Henry, Henry, Henry.

Right now he's out in the yard and I think he's tracking a mole or vole or mouse underground. Nothing's visible, but he is hopping around and clearly following the path of something just under the grass. Belly full of sticks, muddy paws, happy as a clam.

He is a dog's dog. Happy-go-lucky and a bit of a goof. He just dug several holes in the backyard. Sigh. I clearly foresee a complete loss of control of my home in the near future.
