Hermes cashmere coat

I would skip it if you look like a round ball in it. Buying something that’s not flattering for $7000 seems unwise. I’d try on the longer version, maybe that style suits you more?
I tried on the longer version and I was swimming in it (I need the coffee that Chrismin is drinking). To 880’s point, ending at the widest part of the body also does not help the look. Too bad because the jacket was so soft. I found this "Chaine d'Ancre" pea coat online, will see if my boutique has it to try in person. Does anyone here have this coat?

I have one in that same color size 34 from last season. But it’s not cashmere. It’s 100% virgin wool.

I am dying to try the long version on ! It ran larger? I don’t live near a store so I have to fly / drive and my schedule has not permitted me to do so! My SA brought in 2 sizes .. I’m usually a 36 in coats — I have the short version — but I wanted a roomy coat so she got the 36 and 38 .. now I’m wondering if that will be too big !

I was swimming in size 40 for 2 reasons: the sleeves were way too long and the length. I am also 5’2 about 155 pounds, pear shape body (currently at my heaviest, usually around 145 pounds, usually wear US size 6-8)

SA said their in-house seamstress is very talented and can tailor the coat to fit me. I didn’t ask but I assumed with H price point, it should be complimentary?

I still love how the double size cashmere feels and the simplicity of the coat yet elegant. I will go back and try size 38 to see if that helps.

Yes! The alterations are complimentary . I bought my mom a cashmere coat few years back similar to this one and they were able to shorten her sleeves and move the pockets up - and looked very natural !

I have a previous version of this one and on me it's a tad more flattering with the belt, than the Paletot you tried on, which I also own in 2 colours. My FSH SA got the belt loops altered as I am high waisted, but we left the sleeves untouched. I am short and buying coats is very tricky for me. As you are lucky that your store has a in-house tailor, it helps to make whatever minor adjustments are needed for that perfect look. It should be complimentary at full retail. Hope you find your coat!

I have the pea coat that’s 100% cashmere no belt. I think the short coat you started with is the least flattering of any coat Ive tried on at H (and therefore I’ve never purchased one). I’m tall so the long coat looks great on me, peacoat looks good but I sized down for that as it’s quite wide.

Not the exact same coat but this is the one I have . I love it so much that I have it in two color ways!

@KimSeokjin’s Wife , have you tried on @nikotama ’s H coat^ (or a similar silhouette). I think it would look good bc it’s loose enough to skim the body in a really flattering way, but it also somehow looks like it have some structure (some H coats just bag out). The pockets also seem to be very flattering, but I’m not sure why. Or maybe it’s bc @nikotama just looks good in it ;)

I think that I have a similar body type as yours (and for decades I was the same weight that you mentioned above). I found that sometimes a sash around my waist created a sausage effect if in bulky outerwear fabric. But, I also have a very thick waist for my weight/height even at my thinnest. If like me, you sausage out, you can ask the tailor if the belt is at your natural waist. Bc sometimes moving it (as suggested by @periogirl28 also helps. Also, this is my own personal feeling: if you have a soft figure and need structure, wool gives a bit more shape than cashmere, even in the same cut. I only wear my H cashmere short car length coat (single breasted, medor button) when I am at my thinnest. Bc the soft quality of the cashmere can make me look lumpy.

Although somewhat OT, when I was at the top of my weight, I turned to a more structured Chanel coat. Bc Chanel can tailor to fit and create an illusion of a waistline, and their A silhouette and pocket placement give the illusion of an hourglass. It’s of course a very different look.

@Chrismin, I think the 36 on that coat will be plenty big on you. At my present weight, I think we wear similar sizes. Though I was surprised that you chose to go up so much with thr tuxedo

I haven’t, but it’s always worth a try! I just love the softness of double-faced cashmere. Not sure what’s gotten into me lately, but the idea of owning a beautiful, classic coat has taken over, hence the spontaneous hunt. In reality though, I’m a handbag lover at heart.

Honestly, I think it’s just part of my H addiction. I’ve added enough bags to my collection this year that my attention started drifting elsewhere. I truly appreciate all the thoughtful advice and insights shared here—it’s been so helpful. I’ll be sure to post a photo once I’ve completed my little quest!
