You should be able to go to the T5 location after you arrive in that terminal. There is another location in T3, and 3.5 hours MIGHT be enough time depending on how fast you shop at T5. To pull this off, however, you need to get a Heathrow personal shopper (who will escort you through security at T3). This is a free service at Heathrow, and you can set this up simply by emailing them. Good luck!

Dear DH S, are you sure about that? Departing and arriving passengers follow completely different routes at LHR except when in transit within the same terminal. Having said that, since I have never connected between flights in London which is always my final destination, I could be wrong.

I was in Heathrow just a few weeks ago. Our flight originated from London, so it was not a layover. We flew out of T2, but we wanted to visit H in T5 and T3. We got to the airport about 3 hours early, and that was just enough time to meet up with the personal shopper (in T2), visit and shop at a few places in T5, and then return to T2 for our flight. We didn't have enough time to visit H in T3, but that's because DW and her sister are slow shoppers.

I can't speak to whether someone arriving on a layover is segregated from the T5 departures, but with a personal shopper, they are definitely able to take you from terminal to terminal (provided that you have enough time). If they can take you between terminals, I can only presume that they could take you between the arrival-departure areas within T5 if they are, indeed, segregated.

Feel free to email them and see what they say. The email address (as well as an FAQ page) is found on their website:

If you want to play by the rules, take DH's advice to get a personal shopper to tour you around.
You can also fill in the form and a staff would assist you and that's very much the same thing although it says you are expected to spend £250 or more but if you can't find anything you can simply walk away.
I am sure you can transfer between terminals by yourself as it's very much like a self-service now; just follow the purple sign and get on the shuttle to other terminals within Departure but having someone to escort you is always good as you simply skip all the lines and that's a huge privilege if you know what I mean. (Should have kept this as a secret to tpfers though haha)
And the staff has good rapport with the SAs in stores and you shall feel very welcomed plus they have discount coupons like 5% off (not at H though)
They are so eager to take you shopping trust me!
You can also reserve things beforehand. Just send your wish list to them!

For more info, go to Heathrow's page and you shall get more insights~

By the way, just from my own experiences, I have ever scored a L30, seen a Rose Sakura GP, got offered clutches and many more things at T5. Not a lot of tableware though.

My fd got offered at least 5 bags at T3 3 weeks ago (2 P18, 1 GP36 in leather, 1 GP30 in canvas, 1 GP 30 in leather, 1 herbag 31) all wrapped in plastics, the SA asked which one she liked most and she d bring it out as she wouldn't wanna unwrap the plastics unless she s sure about the bag. She took the P18 rouge Tomate in the end!

And they are consignment stores like a franchisee according to my SA in Sloane Street so they are very much separated from boutiques in London. That's why you don't really need to play the H game but being nice and polite would always be best! The rest just comes down to luck!

Enjoy shopping!

Unless I am mistaken, you won't be able to visit the H store in T5 and there is no H in T4. Arrival and departure routes are strictly segregated at LHR.

Thank you all for your comments and tips! So grateful to be part of this helpful community :flowers:.

This is, as you may have guessed already, my very first shopping trip at LHR. As a matter of fact this will be the second time in my entire life that I have a layover in LHR! I normally fly direct or through other airports but this time I planned my trip through LHR for the sole purpose of Duty/ Tax free luxury shopping so it would be a real pity if I can't.

I didn't know that arrivals and departures at T5 were strictly segregated! Was happy to see that I was landing there and thought that would save me a lot of time. I wasn't planning to go to T3 with T5 having all the shops that I am interested in; Chanel, Hermès and Gucci

I've already checked the LHR shopping site and sent 2 separate e-mails (one for Chanel and one for H) last week inquiring about duty free prices with a list of items I'm looking for but haven't received any answer yet. I haven't mentioned any flight dates or LHR rewards number so probably that's why they ignored me. I don't mind booking a personal shopper and meet the limit of 250 GBP, I bet a Chanel brooch is easily more than that, but I really wish to know the prices of the other items so I can do my math here and make calculated purchases. I first have to convert the price to € and see if it's worth the discount, otherwise I'm happy purchasing them at my home store if the difference is not that significant. I've compared the prices on both the Eu and UK sites and it seems that H prices are a bit higher on the UK site.

I'm particularly interested in:

Oran Sandals size 39 in gold/ black price: 475€-------> 445£
Hermes belt kit 32 size 80cm in etoupe + golden buckle "martelé" price : 650€ ------> 620£
CDC in black leather and phw price 995€ --------> 840£
Kelly Dog black with PHW price 490€ ------- >415£
Eventually a CSGM 140x140 from the Maharani collection 925€ ---->780£
Mosiac au 24 gold tarte plate 310€
Mosiac au 24 gold Breakfast set for two 390€

Also a Chanel sling back in nude/black
Chanel classic M/L in black caviar with SHW/GHW
A brooch

It's a long list and I will probably won't be able to purchase all of them at once, but I made my list as long as possible to maximize my chances of finding at least one thing.

I will def sign up for a LHR rewards number and resend my requests a couple of days before my trip and hope they will reply. I will also study the airport/terminal map to get to know the place. I will pack super light, one check in luggage and a hand bag/woc with a foldable Longchamp Le Pliage (I have the cabinet size one) so I can be light and "mobile". As you see this girl means business a.K.A shopping :graucho:.lol

Rosy: to work out the duty free price, take the normal one and divide by 1.2. I got some 90 carrés recently and they were 245£ against 295£ in the boutiques in London.

Thank you dear @Lostinlondon for your reaction. So Hermès airport prices are the same as the site/store ones? That's a big help. I honestly wasn't sure they would be the same. I've read an article not long ago about how some stores in LHR "cheat" the duty free prices by increasing them so they are more or less the same as the prices elsewhere after the discount. In that case, I can already make my calculation and hope to find what I want;).

Thank you again

Wow... thanks for all the awesome info here. Didn't know there's such great finds in LHR. How much is a garden party 30 (in leather), herbag 31 and picotin tax free price?
Please refer to the 2017 pricing here and take the retail price divided by 1.2 as mentioned above by @Lostinlondon

I'll explain once and for all the reason for dividing it by 1.2. All prices are inclusive of VAT which is 20%. In short the retail price is 120%. To work out the duty free price, simply divide retail price by 1.2. (There might be rounding up to the next closest £.)
