What color is that blue Birkin called?

Sorry, don’t want to get off topic as this thread is on scarves (posted it only because there is part of a scarf in the background).

I posted this and other pics on this thread, you should consider asking here:

Or repost the pic here, because this bag is new for AW18 and someone can answer your question there (it could be the new Bleu Encre, but I would only be guessing):

Thanks Angelian! I had never heard that term before and googled it (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_the_Goose). Seems to be a recurrent theme for the new season! Looks like an interesting scarf.

:yw: Only noticed later that right in the middle of the scarf it says “Jeu de Soie”, so it’s more likely that is the actual name. MC referred to it as Goose Game, didn’t know this term either, but the translation is very similar to our Dutch term for it. Interesting that they have two scarves coming up (Le Tour du Monde too) that are quite similar in design-idea.

Yes, that is my understanding as well, though I have seen people use the term with regard to scarves with 3 or 4 colors. I've always assumed that the term was being misused then, but what do I know?!?!

I recently asked the question what constitutes a finesse scarf in the SOTD thread, and Marietouchet kindly answered there in post #8011 - sorry unable to link here :-)

I don't believe this scarf is previous designs here's why.. As someone who has no idea about H scarves I will preface this by saying it's 4:30am(was at time of writing now 5.30am) and I enjoy researching. Since it's called Le Tour du Monde which was a travel journal. The scarf appears to be based on the wonders of the world and French and Hermes history/culture imo other related stuff in brackets

We have:-

Great Pyramid of Giza and Spynx (there is a King Tut scarf)
Easter island (a maoi statue was loaned to France)
Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow (Napoleon legend has it he wanted to take it back with him)
Statue of Liberty (French design and construction, a gift, a statue of Liberty scarf)
Elephants for India

The cacti and rocks (a possible nod to Kermit Oliver of Texas the only American H designer and creator of the famous and loved as I see from this thread pani la shar pawnee - I'm right about this for sure I've just looked at his painting on this scarf and it's Pani La Shar Pawnee )

Tour De France
The kangaroo for France-Australian relations (stemming from WW1, also an Australian scarf)
The space shuttle (related to Jean-Loup Jacques Marie Chrétien, or all of the French astronauts)
Tightrope walker (Cirque du soleil....Quebec)
Christ The Redeemer created by French sculptor Paul Landowski with assistance from
and built by the Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with the French engineer Albert Caquot
27 is the Citroën 2CV car launched at the 1948 Paris car show
Is 42 Isis? Notre-Dame de Paris is built on top of where The Temple of Isis was
5 China?
Others I'm interested in but couldn't i.d 52, 39, 56, 8, 5, 45,60, 22 (grand canyon? it's not Verdon Gorge ) 12 where is that figure sitting looks like it'd have an amazing view(Trolltunga, Norway?). 46 the hippo boat only place I can find that is Loxahatchee FL

I now want the history of all 62 squares

In short it's a collective of all of these things that have created and influenced H hence ending at as called in this thread the mothership

Thanks @litchi this was fun

Amazed at your faboulus detective work! And yes, had a look at no 12, and it is indeed Trolltunga, Norway! I believe this is a first for Norway to be honoured explicitely like this on a H scarf. One more slightly oblique Norwegian reference is found in the Au Coin de Feu, where the pattern looks like knitted stitches, and the corners show what is called an eight leaves rose, which is a very trad Norwegian knitting pattern (although versions of it can be found in many cultures).

TRIVIA ALERT: In French the 'Goose Game' is known as the 'Jeu de l'oie', so the scarf name is a fun play on words!

Well spotted! I never noticed the pun. I have always wondered why the "Cartes à Nouer" which is an obvious pun on "Cartes à Jouer" has been, to my mind, boringly translated as "Knotting Cards". "Playing Scarves" sounds more similar to "Playing Cards" and would have had a much more fun ring to it.
Looking forward to playing with next season's offerings though!!!

Oh gosh, likewise I hadn't spotted the very obvious puns you just mentioned! It's funny how sometimes you're in the right frame of mind to pick up these things... or not in my case...!

I heard that there will be a few designs in 70 cm size, including one that I am very very hopeful about... :graucho:

I'm sorry, I'm afraid to say any more right now! If I get more concrete information that I can share, I will. When I heard about it I was skeptical because we all know that 70s have been "discontinued," but of course they haven't been completely - there is the Petite Abeille, for example. So I believe that there will be a few designs in the 70 format as we think of it. It's the design I'm more unsure about.

@bunnycat @Angelian @litchi @Aelfaerie I just returned from my H boutique and unfortunately I have a disappointing update. The particular design that I was led to believe was coming in a 70 cm is actually NOT coming after all. I was talking to the floor manager about it, asking how many cws we could expect. He went to look for me and came back about 10 minutes later, quite embarrassed. All along he was thinking 70 cm when really what he had seen was 70 cachemire/30 soie. So I'm glad I waited until I could get concrete info. Sorry about that everyone!

Thank you for checking, dear klynneann. :hugs:
