Comparing LV to Hermes is like apples to oranges. There r beautiful LV styles, especially their totes(great for airplanes) but a Hermes bag is handmade and that sets it above other bags in quality of materials and craftmanship.

My first over 2k bag was the LV Suhali lockit bag. It is made of goat skin and when I put it next to my new Hermes bags...all are lovely. I don't like the canvas bags and the suhali line is the only line I would buy from LV. Honestly I really love that bag even though I have started buying Hermes. I think it is very well made and will last me as long as my birkin and kelly. (with care)

for me...i just love bags no matter what brand as long as i like the bag. but since i got my first H, i just couldn't get enough...i want more and more and more Hermes bags  but in where i live, i couldn't use hermes bag for my everyday use...so i usually use LV or other brand for carefree use. for example, i will not bring my hermes bag going to the wet market :D
for formal occasion, gathering with friends, party, etc...yes of course i will use my hermes bag

The biggest differences to me between Hermes and just about anything else out there are that Hermes bags are handmade, and use only the finest materials. No vinyl, no canvas, no sweatshops, no "seconds" or sales.
NO offense intended to any LV lovers or lovers of any other brand, I just really prefer the character and beauty of a finely handmade product.

I agree completely.

I don't like monograms or prints (no damier, mono, MC), I don't like lots of studs and hardware (like the suhali), I don't like the appearance of epi though the leather is understated. I'm not trying to offend any LV lovers, but the bags were just not me.

I like bags made of various kinds of leather, in rich colors with good workmanship and not very noticeable hardware, with no logos. Well, what's the best brand that does that? H of course!!

I like the LV luggage I have. I have the monogrammed canvas Pegase70(great size, holds enough for weeks, trolley wheels), Bosphore 50(I carry my laptop passport, cosmetics, etc), the large hard beauty case(very heavy!!!!but I take it to hold my jewelry and spill sensitive items), 5 hanger garment bag(I always think of O.J. and cringe when I need to use it) Cabas Mezzo ( magazines, books etc.) I can carry it on my shoulder and it is very practical for travel as it can hold a lot of stuff!!!
As for Hermes, I only have a Birkin 35 and a Garden Party.
If Hermes made luggage ( I will have to find out if they do?) I would certainly love to own it!!!
I wouldn't want to travel commercial with it.

While I still love my LV luggage, I have fallen out of love with their bags and small leather/canvas goods. When I was younger, I used to adore the epi (leather - no logo) and damier (canvas - no logo) lines and loved to collect it. But, after I was introduced to Hermes craftsmanship, LV just didn't measure up for me. I have kept a few rare LVs but have mostly sold off the rest. However, on young Rose Jr - it is perfection!

This is me exactly, Ninja are you my twin. I have the luggage and still love it and I have some of the limited edition bags I have kept but the rest for me just isn't up to par. Besides everyone and their sister has every one of their bags. I prefer to silently stand out. Not in a flashy way but in an elegant way.

I love my LVs in moderation but IMO they are not even remotely in the same class.
Funny anecdote: my Hermes SA has NO CLUE regarding how much an LV bag costs. The last time I was in the store, he was shocked and appalled to tell me that he'd recently found out that LVs are made from canvas. He asked why a "$3000 bag" would be made of canvas. He seemed genuinely troubled by this...
But they each serve different purposes and I think that there is definitely room for a variety of designers in one's life...my LV carryon is vintage and in fabulous condition after heavy use.
And I have heard that an LV trunk was the only piece of luggage that survived the sinking of the Titanic!

I love your story! IMO, what he said is true, LV could sell for so much more than what it's worth. Like the new canvas bag for $1700 (if I'm not mistaken). What is THAT?

I like LV to an extent that it's pretty good for an everyday bag...

Besides, I am not crazy about carrying bags that EVERYONE else around me will be carrying. The only time I see REAL Hermes bags in NC is when I: 1. look in my closet; 2. I go to the Hermes store in Charlotte; 3. I see some other ladies (Hey Sellmysoul!) at a TPF meet and they are also carrying Hermes. With LV when I walk out my front dor I immediately start tripping and falling over people left and right who are carrying LV. :nogood:

LOL, I'm in Charlotte and see a bit of Hermes on a daily basis, but it's probably just different set of people we run into. H is out there in Charlotte, more Myers Park than uptown, but it's def. there. Any charity lunch- there. The football plaayers wives have claimed it as well judging from the recent games.

For me, once I actually had an Hermes bag, nothing else could measure up. It's hard to explain. Now even my accessories are all H and I wouldn't dream of looking at anything else. This saves time, but not money!!!

the pieces I really love from Vuitton is the Epi line.. They stand out so much from the canvas bags. I love my luggage set from Vuitton, it will last a lifetime, it reminds me SO much of the way people travelled 100 years ago, on steamboats and trains that travelled through Europe. But as I am getting older, I am leaning more and more towards Hermes. I may not be able to get an Hermes bag without taking out a loan or saving for a 2+ years to get a Birkin, but that will make much more special. I think and hermes bag can truly elavate a look, take a 'standard' classy look to Jackie O heights. On the other hand, I love my Vuitton bags and have gotten SO much use out of them but they are beginning to loose its allure, since every time I go into the Copehagen Vuitton store there is minimum 20 people waiting in line, 90 % of them teens. That is not the case with Hermes and I am thinking that it is a 'classy lady bag'.. a line I USED to adapt to Vuitton.

sorry for my babbeling!

Hermes actually does make luggage. Harper's Bazaar a few mths ago had a layout with H luggage in it. It was white with blue trim. There were several pieces in the pictorial. I'll see if I can find a pic online for you.

I was an avid LV buyer for several yrs but lately I've moved away from the brand, specifically mono's, simply b/c I don't like seeing them everywhere and on top of that, all the fakes out there. To me, it somewhat cheapens the brand.

There are lines that I will still buy - Epi, Suhali and Nomade as well vintage luggage pieces that I just like to collect.

Hermes appeals to me b/c the bags are handmade and still somewhat rare to be seen on the streets in comparison to LV.
