I think that's a great choice for a bag, pretty but not too delicate that you have to baby it. For a first time purchase I would definitely wait until you can go to a store - it will be so much nicer and you'll feel more special. So long as YOU are happy - sure some people won't like LV, some are jealous etc, just carry your new bag and enjoy it.
Enjoyment - fortuitous you use that word. It’s my birthday and I promised myself that I’d honour enjoyment as this year’s mantra in order to make the most out of life. Thanks for gently bringing me back to it. I saw a blogger zoom in to her LV collection with the big words BASIC and then zoom out to her evolution she called it with Prada, YSL and Chanel and I felt foolish thinking my celebratory special purchase is someone’s basic. But it’s all about perspective. Thank you!

Yeah, Prada, YSL, Chanel, and LV are all mass produced (not one of a kind or made-to-order) so in a sense they're all "basic." I just ordered my first monogram bag (hasn't arrived yet) and I know some people will judge me for it. People will judge everything, and some people are jerks. Don't let them stop you from buying something you love! I hope you have a lovely birthday and enjoy your new bag when you get it!

Buy that gorgeous Neonoe and rock it. If you love it, that is the only opinion that matters. I’m sure it will look so good on you! Happy Birthday and hopefully you will be celebrating soon with this beautiful bag!

By the way, I’m a Basic B**** to the core. And totally embrace it. Opinions are like a$$holes. Everyone has one. And I stopped caring about what other people think a long time ago.

I echo the opinion of others to go try on the bag in store if you can. If you feel like a million bucks when you try it on, and if your heart soars when you do, then it’s the right bag.

On the practical side, make sure you are okay with the open top, the bulky bottom (will you wear crossbody? Or shoulder).....And the color, as people noted above. These are considerations well discussed in the neo noe thread that was posted above for your reference.

then. About the “basic” ness. I feel that by and large the population still views LV as very luxury and expensive. A privilege to own. The people who are calling it basic and those who are jaded with the luxury bag market because they’ve bought too many. Don’t believe them. Owning anything LV is an extremely nice luxury that really isn’t that common.

I have this exact bag but with the braided handle. Of all the LV and non LV bags I have, it is my absolute favorite and most comfortable daily bag. I have a variety of designer bags and I have to say I love and use my LVs the most. As far as it being a basic b**** bag, I couldn’t care less. I didn’t grow up with much, so I know the reality is that “everyone” most definitely does not have an LV bag. If you love it, wear it proudly. Life is just too short to give two craps about judgemental strangers.
I’ll just screenshot this and make it my name home screen on my phone. Thank you, I just joined and wasn’t expecting such great pep talks to boot.

You
Your tastes will evolve... Just make sure you’re buying a bag that is functional and versatile for you now and that you love. We luxury lovers tend to have a radar for bags so any bag that becomes common and is at the lower end of the cost spectrum could be seen as basic. It’s all about how you wear the bag. I’m not an LV canvas fan at all, but I’ve seen some women style their canvas bags and look like a million bucks! Usually, it’s not the bag that I admire on someone it’s how they style it. This combo you’ve picked out is pretty neutral so I think you’ll have a lot of styling options.

Personally, I th since it’s your first you should wait for the boutique experience. These days you probably will have to make an appointmen. Good luck and welcome to the addictive world of luxury handbags!
Thank you, this perspective was helpful. I was avoiding the store because of Covid but by appointment and with a mask maybe trying the bag on would be a wiser choice.

Thank you, this does make sense since I was checking out bloggers who had a fairly medium to large collection of varied bags. Someone’s something is probably another’s starter bag somewhere in the world.

Thank you so much. Joy and embracing your true self likely go hand in hand with not caring what others think. I’ll work on it as hard as I’m working on researching this bag lol. Thank you!

My thoughts - consider the red element. Is this your favourite colour? Does it coordinate with the majority of your wardrobe? Are you pretty settled in your style or still figuring things out? Will you get tired of the red?
As far as LV - to me, it is basic in that it is simple and classic and popular. You will see other people with LV everywhere you go so it is not unique in that sense. It is still high end though and to me looks pretty elegant across a range of settings - casual to dressy.
Have you seen this bag in real life? That can change how you view something.
I would keep watching videos like this one to give you a sense of the bag:

and keep an eye out for anyone carrying it in real life.
I think softness versus structure is a key element to choosing a bag, usually people go for one over the other and to me this bag is definitely more structured in the base.
There is a thread here about this bag which will be useful: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/the-beautiful-neo-noe-club.962027/

Thanks for this advice. I will check out the video and thread. I also appreciate the context you provided within which the term “basic” operates vis-vis thé bag. I am fairly confident on the style and colour combination. The red works well I think for my personal expression and across the Canadian seasons. I didn’t want something understated for such a singular expensive purchase but I do understand how taste, practicality and occasion may dictate a different starting point for others. Thanks again for your help!

Thanks
I’m back to LV recently after buying Chanel and Prada. Chanel is too ex now and the styles are somehow the same to me even with the Chanel 19 series. But for LV, I think recently, I do have to admit that they have done quite innovation on different styles and patterns which I like. As compared to Prada, LV is definitely made in China hahaha.

For Hermès, I think the styles are suitable for me although I think they leather are luxurious.
Thanks for your input. It truly is a whole world of luxury opening up. Not the worst decisions to be overwhelmed by!

I wouldn't pay any attention to what anyone says online. I doubt those same people would ever say it to someone's face. I think LV is considered basic because it's a "common" luxury brand, but in reality one bag can easily be someone's monthly rent. It's also easy to spot the monogram, but I bet you most haters wouldn't even know a bag is LV without the monogram. Get the bag you like and that works for you, that's the most important thing.

Since this is your first luxury bag, I would try to go to the store. You might end up deciding you don't actually like the bag. I think coquelicot is a lovely color, but some people here gave it up because they decided it was too bright in person.

Neonoe is my favorite style, but there are things about it that bother me every now and then. I really don't like it when my things end up underneath the pocket divider. I have to take out nearly everything to get to the thing that ended up at the bottom. I also don't like how bulky it is sometimes. It swings forward when I lean over, and sometimes it just whacks things, including people.
It whacks people! Sounds like I might get some added bonuses I didn’t think of with this bag lol! Jk. Thanks for your input and the feedback on the poorer elements of this bag. Bucket bags come away always feeling bulkier somehow it’s unfortunate. I have seen people recommend an organizer for the bag in order to mitigate the frustration of things being lost?

If the packaging is that important to you, hold off until it’s back in stock (so long as you don’t risk your bag going out of stock) since it’s your first luxury bag and evidently an important part of the experience for you.

As for the comment made about LV, sure a lot of people have them and it can be argued that they’re basic but it shouldn’t be about anyone else’s opinion, again it should be about you. You know best, if this is the bag and/or brand you’re interested in.

Best of luck in making your decision and be sure to share pictures of your first luxury purchase on the forum, whenever it may be and whichever brand it happens to be!
Thank you with all of this helpful feedback and overall pep talks I hope to land on a decision soon and share!

I always have to hold it close to me whenever I lean over, or if I'm walking near people, like on the subway. It's not really that big of a deal, but it's not something I usually do with my other bags.

I don't care for bag organizers, because I use pouches to store my things. If you're someone who stuffs everything into your bag without organizing, I think the neonoe will be a nightmare without an organizer.

I forgot to mention that the base sags when you fill the bag with a lot of things. Some people buy base supports. If you choose to get a support or organizer, opt for soft one (nothing like hard plastic). My SA told me that she's had clients come in who use hard ones and they ripped through the canvas.

Basic B****s unite!

People are so funny. I have bought across the luxury range and find nothing "basic" about LV. For the most part, they are fun, casual bags that wear well and look beautiful. You don't shop at Chanel or Hermes if you are looking for the LV vibe, and vice versa. Ignore the bloggers and buy what you want. Someone will always have an opinion and it just doesn't matter.

I have the Neo Noe and love it. It's a terrific bag. You are definitely making a great choice for your first LV bag. That said, I would echo the other posters who recommended having the store experience if you can. Also, I found that ordering the two piece organizer from Samorga that is made for the Neo Noe helped me a lot. They fit snugly on either side of the divider. Items tend to slide under the center divider in this bag, and it drove me crazy! Much better now.

Be sure to come back and tell us about your experience!
