If I pull the trigger nowish, I've got it narrowed down to a Plume 32 in Poppy/Swift and a Davli MM in natural box. Both are just in my price range (which is more than I anticipated when I started this thread). Very different bags. The sizes are pretty similar and work. I should probably go for the more casual Plume for more daily use, but the Dalvi is so nice looking.
I would choose the Plume personally-its such a beautiful classic. and I love swift!

I totally agree. I would also put myself in the "beginner" category and got a Plume recently (28, not 32); it is such a wonderful bag!

Edit: the Plume is a fairly structured bag, so it doesn't read particularly casual to me personally. Additionally, if you're looking for something you can toss a laptop in, I'd highly recommend the Victoria as I believe others have suggested 🙂

I’m not a practical person. If you adore the Dalvy, I vote for that. But, if neither is an absolute must have, then wait :)

880, I'm not exactly practical myself! I haven't written off the Delvi just yet!

I don't need a laptop bag, I have many that fit that bill. The Victoria seems too large for me.

Kale, I was leaning towards the 28 in Epsom, but Swift sounds so amazing, I sized up (haven't made purchase yet, so sized up in my mind). What leather is your 28 in and what fits?

I agree that the Victoria sounds too large for your purposes.

My Plume is admittedly not in a "beginner" leather (alligator, a vintage find). It's really quite roomy! I can easily fit a sunglasses case, tote bag, wallet, keys, Kindle, headphones, business cards, small cosmetics bag, and a CSGM. Hopefully these pictures help!

O. M. G.

So wonderful. There is a red alligator Plume on eBay right now. Not remotely in my budget, but it is glorious.

I’m baaack!

Okay, I am deciding between something in Evercolor (in a color I love), Fjord (in a color I like a lot), and a brown Vibrato (which I am intrigued by).

Thoughts?
Fjord is indesructable I love it its veiny and full of character. I own a Fjord bag (Jypsiere).
Fjord IS heavy
Personally I don't like evercolour but thats because I don't like pressed leathers but I believe its also very durable.
Vibrato is incredible and I want a Vibrato bag-I believe when it was launched it came with a little brush..someone could verify this.
I like the craftmanship involved in the creation of Vibrato-but for a first Hermes bag? I'm unsure perhaps a vibrato owner could advise?
I believe @Helventara has one.

Thanks for the tag @maxroxxherhandbags
I am quite 'hard' on my vibrato. Put it in the trunk of my car, etc but it stays pristine. The box part has signs of use from being opened to get stuffs from (again, not gentle). But it’s light and roomy. I love it. I have been using it this whole month 😍 I dunno… I think it can be an exciting first bag.

Agree with @maxroxxherhandbags, Fjord is fabulous, thick and chewy, and yes, full of character! It is heavy though, so if it's a large bag that you plan to load up I would keep that in mind. (I have a Fjord Plume 28.)

I don't own anything in Evercolor or Vibrato, but also agree that Vibrato is beautiful. As I understand it, it did come with an eraser sort of thing to be used to clean minor spots. I also understand that Vibrato can't be serviced by Hermes. I think of Vibrato as more of a collector's piece rather than a first bag staple, but if it were a toss off in your budget and not some sort of reach, and you LOVED it, there are some lovely pieces out there in resale land.

Are these choices all the same style of bags or are you considering a few different options? Hand carry, shoulder carry and crossbody styles might change your view on the leather choice, and your intended use for the bag may as well. I don't think I'd go for a Fjord Birkin for example; it's too heavy to all day, and because Fjord is such a sturdy leather, it would be a Birkin I'd want to carry often and throw around, and then by the afternoon I'd be very, very, sorry. I'm certain Evercolor is much lighter but I'm not familiar with its attributes to opine on whether that's a good or bad idea, or even available for a Birkin (scratches? dents? rubbing?).

You might try setting up a chart of the bags you're thinking about, sort of a matrix, and by adding in the pros and cons, see what that might reveal. It's hard if you have all of the variables in play as opposed to having decided that your first bag will be X style, and then it's a question of what leathers suit that style best for you and what colors best suit your wardrobe, all of course within your budget parameters. HTH! :flowers:

ETA Just saw @Helventara's comments and am glad to hear that Vibrato holds up well to regular usage!

Such great responses! Thank you!

Okay, I was going to hold out, but I’ll tell you. In am looking at the Plume 32. I am concerned about the weight of the Fjord. It’s possible that this will be my only Hermes. I don’t love pressed leather, but understand the Evercolor is “lightly “ pressed.

I love the Toolbox 20 but cannot spend that kind of money.

Maybe the Vibrato is the way to go.

Hhhmmmm…..

Honestly, many of us thought we would only have one Hermes bag lol.
If you love the toolbox 20, I might wait. Bc resale prices could soften further.
Only buy what you unequivocally adore. Even if a good deal, these bags are expensive.

I have a vibrato Picotin, it is very sturdy. It is vintage, yet shows no wear.
My little Plume holds so much considering its size (20cm). I would heartily recommend the larger sizes.
Not to confuse you further, but a great medium bag that I have come to love is the Saut 25. I got mine resale, it sells for much, much less than original retail so is a great value considering the excellent craftsmanship.
This thread is so much fun, so many great suggestions!
