JUST WANT TO ADD:
I asked my mom for her opinion and she reminded me that she has a black Chanel in SHW and she will eventually give it to me so I should choose the gold. However, it's not the CF I believe. Please see attached photo of my mom's bag.
Can GHW be hard to dress down? I usually wear casual and I would want to wear the bag often.

Go to the boutique and try, you can’t go wrong with both. I automatically liked silver and found it easier to match, but ghw is def more elegant. However I do dress edgy and casual and automatically gravitated towards silver. Good luck and update us!
Unfortunately, SA could only request 1 bag to be transferred to my store which is why I could not see and try both.
I love mixing metals and honestly you can’t go wrong with either, it really is down to personal style but I feel your gut instinct for silver may be what you want. All my bags are GHW or Champagne as I just love the look go for silver if that’s what you’re gravitating to!
Look at Instagram. So many trendy ladies rocking the flap with GHW with casual outfits. I wear my classic flap with GHW all the time with casual outfits. Silver used to be the more modern choice but I do feel that gold is more on trend now. However, you can’t go wrong with either. Both are beautiful. I do feel that you are more drawn to the SHW though.
Gold. I had a jumbo with silver hardware once and it just looked bleh.
I don't match the color of the hardware to my jewelry but to the color of the bag. Gold warms up every color, silver makes every color more cool toned. Even with white gold jewelry, I match gold hardware on bags in the winter. In the summer it feels like I can't breathe if I look at gold hardware. All the muted pastel colors imo look best with shw, but a strong color like black, navy or burgundy will suit gold more. So I would advise not to look at what you wear most but what color the bag will be.

Go with SHW if that's what you usually wear! I went with GHW for mine even tho I initially wanted SHW cos I was looking at my bag collection as a whole and already had black + silver combos. I'm not a fan of mixing metals and I tried to but somehow I find it a bit harder with the black classic flap cos the gold on it is so yellow compared to light/champagne gold and I ended up wanting another bag with SHW lol.
After reading this I am still debating whether I should get GHW or SHW black caviar small classic flap, it will be a push present from my in laws. I seldom dress up and usually dress very casual. My husband prefers gold, he said black and gold is the ultimate match, but at times I feel gold looks dated and silver looks younger. But then again, it will be a very special bag for me since it is a gift from my in laws to celebrate my giving birth. Such dilemma.
