Both are classic; I think it's going to come down whether you prefer round vs square face and how it looks with your jewelry (e.g. if you have a lot of "modern" angular jewelry a tank might look better).
Help me Choose Cartier: Ballon Bleu vs Tank Francaise

Thank you all for your input. I see more people are for the ballon bleu. I have to tell you that I have tried on both in person last month and the salesperson was definitely pushing the ballon bleu more but she seemed to be a round watch person as that was what she herself was wearing.
The Tank was more classic and discreet if that makes sense because the casing and metal band were more matte in texture while the ballon bleu stood out more because the case and band were more on the shiny side. I wish I could just get both! Hahah. My BF said they both looked the same to him! haha men! Well I will have to go back in person and see which one feels more "right" then. Keep your opinions coming though
Also will cartier waive sales tax or anything like that? Are there any benefits to signing up for their credit card or anything like that? Or should I buy it at Bergdorf Goodman and have it sent to CA to avoid sales tax? Thanks!

Tank!!!! I have the small SS tank Francaise for about 10 years now and I love it and still get tons of compliments on it. It is one of the most classic and versatile Cartier watches, IMO. It dresses up or down SO SO well! Looks just as beautiful with a formal dress as it does with a pair of jeans.
I like the Ballon Bleu, but IMO the overall style of the face seems a bit trendy to me? It's definitely just a matter of personal preference and which watch style you feel you will love and use a lot over the years.

Cartier doesn't waive taxes anymore in my experience. The Red Card is great in that you can pay over 12 months with no interest. The option of having it shipped to avoid taxes is also great and all Cartier boutiques will service their watches and shorten the links whether or not you purchased from them. (they shorten the band for free in 2 mins).
I don't know about the boutique, but I bought mine out of state at an AD and had it shipped. In that case they can legally not charge tax.
Tank Francaise ALL the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like it's SO much more classic ... ANYTHING Cartier makes is stunning obviously and it's all personal taste, but I FEEL like the ballon is less classic and the tank just says "Jackie O, Hepburn, classic classic!!!"
Tank is definitely the more classic of the two. Balloon Bleu is a newer designer, a little more whimsical yet still beautiful. My favorite is the BB but the small looks a little out of proportion to me - the small tank looks much better IMO.

I literally have wanted a Tank Francaise since I was a little girl. DH got me one for Valentine's Day this year and it basically hasn't left my wrist since, in spite of the fact that he also bought me a Rolex for Christmas! I love the BB too though, and it's on my wish list. Like others have said though, you really cant go wrong!

Have you tried on the watches? They're very different. There is also the Roadster which is almost like a compromise of the two.
