Maybe when I'm a transplanted NYer I'll get this. Right now, it's St. Johns basketball team, the Mets, the Yankees, the Giants, and the Jets. But I'm a hardcore Yankees fan. so TBH..well, others have said it far better than I could:

"People ask me what I do in winter when there is no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring" (Roger Hornsby).

"There are only two seasons -- winter and Baseball.” (Bill Veek)

“The trouble with baseball is that it is not played the year round.” (Gaylord Perry)

and Lu..I too am an AT&T hostage. I know you've cheek called and disconnected, but have you ever a$$ texted? Been there, done that..

Bri..muchas gracias for that advice. My contract is in its 11th month and I have to unlock DDs' and DS's phones if possible.

Back to the daily grind.

ETA: Grammar  and thanx Jenni..and JenW. I PM'd you to ask you a question. Need response ASAP por favor.

:hugs: to all.

ETA: Thanks for those quotes, Gingey!! I'll let myself be distracted by football or even hockey (Go DU Pios!!) but really, it's a bleak, bleak time until Spring Training! :tumbleweed:

I was in the marching band in high school so learned foot ball in self-defense. Don't watch it as much as I used to, it sure seems like the commentators have gotten more obnoxious than they used to be.

ETA - the Tampa Bay Bucs are our local pro team, Chucky was hot and in the papers all the time until he sank like a stone the season after the Super Bowl win.

Kate - when we were buying a flat screen I was freaking out because I didn't want the family room to be dominated by a big ass tv. I did 2 things - one was cut out a piece of bristol board so I could see how big it would look on the wall (that was reassuring to me) and also I bought several dvd's of impressionists and leonardo da vinci (plasmawindow.com I think) and I play them when we have guest over - so the wall looks like art and not like a tv.

^^ Sally! Such a great idea! We bought a 50" for above the fireplace and although Russ thinks it's the greatest thing ever, I think it's obnoxious. I am totally stealing this art DVD idea!

SB - I spent a ton of time trying to figure out how I could make the tv less like an energy sucking black hole on the wall. We have a huge wall in the family room - it has 12' ceiling and the width of the wall is about 13'. So we ended up with a 52" tv which looks fine - I was freaked out but the scale is actually right for the wall size and how far away we sit. I realize that a 42" tv would look funny - like a little box stranded in the space. I put those art dvd's on - I mute them and put my own music on but they have 2 music options - relaxation and classical.

My team is sanctioned from attending bowls and pretty much can't recruit. I guess it is "against the rules" to "buy houses for players" or something  On the upside, my season tickets are much closer to the 50 yard line now.

Gooooooooood Looooooord, anyone have any advice here? Jake had a big mouth friend over today after school and now has him thinking Santa doesn't exist. WTF? I'd give eight out my 10 fingers to ensure my kids believed until they hit middle school, but I think that's seriously wishful thinking. But 2nd grade (seven years old)???? The friend saw that our "Elf on the Shelf" (affectionately dubbed "Buddy") had already arrived and after that, he spilled the beans. I didn't make a big deal about it, but...

UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHH!

Need crisis management help here. I'm in unchartered waters and sinking fast.

I wish I could help. I was Santa spoiled when I was 5 thanks to my BFF whose older brother clued her in.

Is there a way of explaining the practical stuff (mommy is helping Santa or Santa has to do advance shipping sometimes) while keeping Santa in the picture?

Agreed... there's also the "turn it back on the unbeliever" option... make Jake feel sorry for his friend :D

He's the eldest, right? It has to happen sometime. I think I was about 7... the good news is that when he does figure it out, you can recruit him to help keep the magic alive for the younger ones. I loved Christmas even more when I was "in" on it.

Good luck, hon! :hugs:

Oh sweetie - your son is probably really confused. Doesn't want to not believe his friend but then you're the momma. Who to listen to? Tough situation for him. Quick - get the book "Polar Express". There's a movie too.

For a long time we talked about the spirit of Christmas and who could really say that Santa did or did not really exist? We still put the kid's presents out after they've gone to bed on Christmas eve - and they are 19 and 21. DH and I do that too - surprise each other and sign cards as if they are from Santa. It's a bit of a family joke but I keep telling my kids to prove to me that Santa does not exist.

Thanks md, cho, jenni and sally. I'm such a freak about this. These were all incredibly helpful comments and helped me minimize the damage from the "spillage."

Yes, Jake is the eldest. And his friend has a big brother, so I'm sure that's where it's coming from, but holy crud I will choke Jake if he spoils it for Luke after he finds out.

I'll put the Tums away now....

Back to your regularly scheduled programming. ;)

The DVDs are a great idea Sally! For 30 years we've had the TVs in a cabinet so doors cold be closed on it but this one is way too big for the cabinet. It's going on the wall but I hadn't even thought of how it's going to look when it's off...eep!

Polar Express is also an excellent idea, I love that movie!! PE is such a good movie about just what you're going through.
