Rough night MT. Sorry you are not feeling so hot.

I got to spend my time at Chucky Cheese for gd's 4th Birthday. I love Skee-ball, but was unable to play. Pretty much just people watched, and boy, there are some really spoiled kids. Couldn't believe the huge birthday parties and all the gifts some of these kids received. And then at the end of the night whining and complaining they what the "big" gifts on the shelves.(the ones that require thousands of tickets of which they did not have). The parents of course, all ready to "buy" the prizes.

Ouch MT. Sounds like quite a night.

2many - I don't think I've been to one of those in years. Recently I've notice kids throwing tantrums over junk food. One was at a vending machine at Ikea and one was at a foodcourt. One of the kids, who looked to be 5 or over, just kept shouting pizza at his mom for minutes.

2-many- you getting hit by the storm too? My brother says that there is about 2 feet of snow with snow drifts about 4-6 ft high. He actually borrowed my car since I've got both a wench & a snow plow attachment. When you see weather like this it really makes you understand Minnesota nice. Everyone helps others out.

Holy moly. Just saw some footage of that storm. Stay safe and warm all of you out there :hugs:..or should I say, in there..because I'm hoping you stay indoors.

Jenni..no sweetie, you didn't jinx me. In fact I wasn't even using the dang contraption. DS had used the processor to make our version of fresh pesto-ish rub for a crusted roast beef. I was washing it when DH started yelling at him for something totally moronic but it startled me and I jumped. The blade was being held in my right hand and I was about to use the sponge to clean it but instead, it sliced through my nail and the tip/edge..(hard to describe).

Thank goodness, the blade was super clean with anti-bac soap..and thank goodness DH has suturing stuff in house. Clean cut but very messy..and then as I was taking out the olive oil, sea salt, rosemary, balsamic vinegar, cracked pepper coated, roasted potatoes from the oven, I slipped on some spillage near the oven (don't want to blame anyone for it..) and burned my knuckles and palms very badly on the oven rack..stupid me forgot to use the oven mitt. So now I have two hands partially out of commission. BTW, the meal was amazing. DS is a fantastic cook in training and DH helps prep and clean..but get the two of them in the kitchen together..BLAM! Fireworks erupt. Just reminds me why I cook better solo...and so I'm hunting and pecking right now.

The dudes abided...all 40 of them. Food was great, company was great, more kids piled in after dinner..DH & I went to bed early..and when we woke up, the dining room/great room/living room/den spaces (one open area) were completely cleaned and set for lunch..love DS's frat bros :hugs:

I think this is it for me for the night. Just let me say that I love the photo of your fireplace, Cho..and I wish all of you good health, and great merryness.

Gingey- Rilke :love: I love that quote. This one is my favorite.... It totally explains me and my DH. "Love consists in this, that two solitudes protect and touch and greet each other." & “I hold this to be the highest task for a bond between two people: that each protects the solitude of the other”

I'm so glad that I'm finally home in Italy. I just now saw the weather in MN. 12-16" of snow & -25 to -35 wind chills with temps in the -teens. :wtf:

Lulu
 this is our favorite passage..and why DH and I have managed to stay together despite so many obstacles and tribulations over the 32+ years of our marriage:

The point of marriage is not to create a quick commonality by tearing down all boundaries; on the contrary, a good marriage is one in which each partner appoints the other to be the guardian of his solitude, and thus they show each other the greatest possible trust. A merging of two people is an impossibility, and where it seems to exist, it is a hemming-in, a mutual consent that robs one party or both parties of their fullest freedom and development. But once the realization is accepted that even between the closest people infinite distances exist, a marvelous living side-by-side can grow up for them, if they succeed in loving the expanse between them, which gives them the possibility of always seeing each other as a whole and before an immense sky.

How wonderful "home in Italy" sounds, my dear..le sigh..as for me..I'm sorta (to turn it around a bit) "Live From NY, It's Saturday Night"..and as nervous as I am about uprooting myself, Florida keeps looking more and more attractive.

Chuck E. Cheese's with the GD sounds fun 2M. My mom is taking my niece and nephew on a train ride to Santa or something like that today. The kids seem so excited.

That sounds like a rough day of cooking Gingey. I hope you heal quickly and painlessly.

My stove has been delivered :cloud9: I haven't used it yet, but I'm so happy. I really love the look of the old O'Keefe and Merritt that came with the house, but it was just too big for the kitchen, the oven was kinda small, and my mom was hassling me about it being unsafe. While, I'm pretty sure my mom's concerns were unfounded, I'm glad that the new stove will ease her mind. The new one is only a couple of inches smaller in depth and width, but it makes a huge difference in my tiny kitchen. I need to read the manual. It has super burners, simmer burners, a griddle, a giant super huge convection oven, high-tech controls to keep the geek in me happy, and it plays jaunty little tunes for its alerts just like my other appliances. I'm not sure how anything works on it or what all it can do. I am, however, pretty sure that I'm having a pb&j for dinner, so using the stove will have to wait for another day.

I feel old getting all giddy about appliances.

Keep warm hhhotties! It sounds like a bad storm.

Sounds lovely, MT!
Glad it wasn't me LOL, Gingey! :hugs:

We're back to our normal for December (low 20s at night, up to mid 40s during the day, and clear). So today (DH doesn't know it yet :D) we're going to set up the new, bigger tent in the yard to try it out, make sure everything's there. And chanterelle risotto for dinner.

Hope the Hotties have a great Sunday!

Hmmm, the risotto sounds good Jenni! :)

I'll be trying to study all day (as much as one can with two kids making a lot of noise around) and tonight I might venture outside to take the kids to get some pizza. There's a lot of snow out, which I love as long as I can be inside! ;)

Gingey- I printed out that quote. It's brilliant!

MT- I know it's sad when we feel old & giddy about appliances. I was the happiest person alive when my hubby figured out how to get me an American style washer and dryer for my b-day. Your stove sounds really really nice. Right now we've got a temporary pine kitchen with 1/2 sized appliances until we figure out what we want to have our remodel look like. So I'm cooking in a very small kitchen. We are thinking the reno will be in the summer time. He wants distressed white painted Oak with sea glass tile & white marble Counters and I want dark walnut, navy sea glass and white with blue vein marble counters. We will have to see who wins this battle. It's going to be a tough one to win since my DH is the cabinet maker.

Apropos of not much this is one of my favorite quotes (don't have an attribution) from a politically-oriented forum I frequent.

"Religion is like a penis. It’s fine if you have one. It’s fine if you’re proud of it. Just don’t go whipping it out in public and start waving it around. And PLEASE, don’t try to shove it down our throats."
