Have you ever tried to leave Vuitton?

I did leave for a while but eventually did return. LV was my first high end bag which I still own and will never part with as it’s just sentimental. I’m like others that dabbled in some “trendy bags” along the way and I have several I can’t part with.
I do enjoy Bal bags but I really like them to be broken in, Chanel and Gucci also! I’m in the middle of trying to downsize my collection so I can invest in other pieces.
But I do find my favorite pieces are still my Louis. I actually just got back in the game this Christmas and am getting my last wishlist item for now. Then taking a break! I like the more traditional pieces and a few LE pieces but not a lot of the other collaboration pieces myself.

I am more like forced to leave with my horror of a bag experience. To be fair, I have pretty much downsized my LV collection anyway - (I have sold 7 of my LV pieces). But the thing is, I wouldn't have completely left as I love the speedy. It's just that their customer service is absolute pits. It's like they don't care anymore. Gone were the days when you could speak to the after-sales team and be assured they will really help you! I have been an LV user for 15 years but I am so disappointed right now. Meanwhile, I am slowly amassing Chanel :D, but still have to snag a Hermes. I also have a Goyard, Prada, 5 Longchamp, Balmain... Will i ever go back? not too sure but there are heaps of great bags out there.

Really interesting to hear all your views. I guess my original thoughts for this post came about because LV was my first designer brand interest and there is just something about the monogram that I love. I do mostly buy SLGs and rarely have a large mono bag as I‘m not keen on being overly showy with something designer. My exception would be a Neverfull because it’s such a useful bag and I have yet to find a cheaper version that matches its floppiness! Same with Speedy actually, I’ve never found a comparable bag that surpasses it.

Whenever I’ve bought other brand items, I start out loving the item but my interest seems to wain really quickly, which doesn’t happen with LV. The only one I’ve kept hold of is a Givenchy Pandora medium bag (which is so comfortable to carry due to the two strap option).

LV will always have a special place in my heart. But as of now, I am quite bored of current offerings. Most are not my style.
I’ll l try to purchase a few purchase here and there. As long it get my attention. But my current focus are try not to buy a lot of unnecessary material things. You can’t go out much with current pandemic going on. lol

I so love LV on other women, but haven’t anything beyond a little crossbody that I purchased years ago. Friends tried to get me to consider other styles but I fell hard for Hermes.

I love the look of Hermes but their price range is beyond what I am ready (or able) to spend. I find Mulberry try to emulate Hermes but with their own individual twist and at a lower price range so I enjoy some of their items. They often have sales and also outlets so it kind of tarnishes the brand a little for me. I don’t want to spend hundreds on a bag for it to be nearly half that in a few months. Maybe that’s another reason I love LV, I feel the fact they don‘t discount makes the items more ‘valuable’. Similar to Hermes and Chanel I guess.

I have taken breaks but never went away for good. I’ve tried other brands like Balenciaga but nothing lasted. LV is my first love because of my Mom and it will always be the one that is most “me”. I already have all the classic silhouettes I want so I look out for newer modern interpretations of the brand.

I've already replied to this thread, but I wanted to add that I feel the same way as some of you who have said the more recent offerings are not doing it for me. I'm not a fan of the bright colours and the more "sporty" looking bags that they're offering in the men's collection, for instance. I'm very rarely drawn to the limited pieces (with the exception of older collections such as Groom and Monogramouflage lines, which I'm very pleased to own) and I prefer classic items. That being said, I'm also glad I bought, for instance, my Keepall when it was half the price of what it is now.

I haven't had the experiences some other posters have had with quality issues, or I'm sure I'd feel differently. My items are all holding up wonderfully, much better than some of the other brands I've owned. Of course I look after everything I own, but I use my items because they're made to be used, I don't baby them. While in my own experience the quality hasn't decreased noticeably, I do feel the constant price increases are unjustified, but I know that's not exclusive to LV. There are a couple of pieces I've bought and sold that I wish I hadn't, for example the Nice BB, but at the current price point versus what I paid, I will never buy it new again.

I've also had great customer service from LV, in general. With the exception of one defective wallet and another item I received with a terrible hotstamping (both of these issues were resolved) everything has been fine. I've also never had an issue with being able to find items that I want, with the exception of very limited pieces of course. Generally when I've asked to be waitlisted for an item, they contact me when it's available. Again, if this hadn't been the case I'd probably have been put off the brand too.

I have always sold on eBay, with the exception of a couple of times I've sold via Instagram! With eBay I wait for one of their promotions where the selling fees are £1.00, because I'd rather hang on to an item for a bit longer than pay all their fees plus PayPal fees. I've never had any issues selling my items. The contemporary bags I've sold haven't made too much money but I always bought these items on sale anyway, so it's not much of a loss.

Sorry to hijack the thread but please tell me where you sold your contemporary bags? I too am a LV lover at heart but went through a stage of adding contemporary designer bags now I want to sell these to focus more on bags i truly love but I'm finding it hard to sell these.

Thank you for replying I've been scared of ebay because of all the bad things I've heard but I may have to give it ago.

Also great to hear your further Insight on LV. For me also I've used my LVs, I take care of them but don't baby them. I just naturally started off with LV after contemporary designers but I've always had a love of Chanel and Hermes but never been able to afford them. Now I'm getting older I'm looking towards those brands and will have to sacrifice buying LV but I can't see myself stopping buying LV as I'm still attracted to some items and we complain about price and quality but ALL brands are heading the same way.
With modern day technology you can't expect the same amount of craftsmanship and materials as before, its literally the same with any consumable product such as washing machines, cookers etc and some 'quality issues' may bother some people and not others however I do believe there should be a good quality control process in place and evidently some items are getting through that shouldn't.

I have no intention of arguing because I respect your opinion and agree with several points, but this bolded part is patently false and also makes an excuse for bad behavior, which I do not tolerate at any price point. It's untrue that all brands are heading in the direction of mass production and shoddy workmanship. To shrug off terribly poor quality and accept price increases that outpace any other brand in the market except Chanel (a brand dealing with their own backlash now) is not something I can accept. I have said it before a hundred times and it looks like I will say it again another hundred -- the price-to-performance ratio of new Louis Vuitton (and Chanel) is atrocious.

For what it's worth, I absolutely do expect the same level of craftsmanship that I got back when these brands earned their individual reputations for quality. The one brand that has never failed to deliver exceptional leather workmanship is Hermes.

Again, I do not mean to be aggressive or oppositional. I just do not have a laissez-faire attitude when there is an increasingly inverse relationship between quality and price.

I stopped buying LV from 2010-earlier in 2020. Part of it was a change in my lifestyle and style preferences. The other part was being unimpressed by the newer lines. I saw a woman with a Graceful MM back in May and really liked it. So I went in June and purchased one. That got me back on the bandwagon. I dusted off what was left of my collection and started using them much more again, as well as added some new pieces.

I will say I’m a little on the fences when buying new canvas pieces. The price vs. quality is so out of whack. I can’t believe how much some of these pieces are. I understand with leather bags, but not canvas. It’s getting out of control.

Yes, I feel like I'm doing a very slow break up right now. My last two bags were Celine and Loewe. I think I have bought as many LV silhouettes as I need for now. I have both leather and canvas LV, I have travel and day to day LV, I have big, medium, and small LV, I have hand carry, shoulder carry and crossbody LV, some LE's....I guess you would say I have an LV bag (and SLG!) for every occasion and style. To keep buying when the prices are climbing, and I already have PLENTY, seems bananas. And, I guess I have built a collection that truly suits me. I'm not wanting more.

The upside is having the desire to check out other brands and I'm really loving my Celine and Loewe right now. I carry them more than anything else at the moment.
wow! I thought I wrote this! ^5! :drinks:

LV was my first designer bag and the mainstay in my collection for quite some time. I dabbled in other brands, but I bought LV the most frequently, especially once I found a terrific SA. I built a collection of LV items I cherish because I prioritized my purchases through her, but after awhile, H started to catch my eye for something different. When my SA moved on, my focus shifted to H. I’ve not bought anything from LV since, though I’m not opposed.
