i never thought it would happen to me up until yesterday. i was sporting my new kooba sienna, and the lady beside me at the bus (yes i ride the bus, i haven't got my own car yet) asked if it was vinyl!!!! i dont know what made her think that, but you can obviously tell that it's leather, specially since you can still smell the strong leather smell and it was brandnew. (i got it thursday). she even asked me if it's ok to touch it, since i said - no it's not vinyl, it's leather. she then said it was a nice bag and asked me how much i paid for it. well, i've read a thread here in tpf that whenever other ladies get asked they would just say 'too much' - but that's different though because they got fendi, lv, chanel - all the high end stuff. i, on the other hand, only got kooba (my first designer bag paid with my own money). so i said, it was for $100. and she then said, oh that's a good deal. where did you buy it. i then said online. she was asking me all those question while we were in a bus!! good thing after 2 stops, she then got off..

she was old though.. but bag addiction has nothing to do with age.. that's for sure..

i just wasnt comfortable when she asked me all those questions. she's like questioning me, how can a girl like me buy a nice bag like that..

It *has* happened to me a few times actually, but I think I mostly felt flattered. It is a compliment in a way after all!

But I suppose it also depends on who it is, if it was a suspicious looking person who did it, I might get a bit nervous and think that they wanted to take it or something.

I am 'old' too (so my teenage daughter keeps reminding me). I have developed a bag addiction rather late in life but it is really fun. She was probably just a dear with an interest in bags and just delighted that you were giving her some attention.

yeah i guess.. i didn't mean to be weird, but it's the first time that happened to me that's why.. i didnt know how to react.. :shrugs:

This happens to me alot- I think. Then maybe it's just me being paranoid!

Although I live in Chelsea (Sloane Sq)- designer bag heaven- I dress down when I'm just shopping or relaxing. It's very 'me' to wear tracksit bottoms, a t-shirt and uggs with a designer bag (like a stam). Or skinny jeans, baggy t-shirt and my ramona. I believe in dressing down. Thank goodness my job requires me to dress funky yet casual as well, so I almost never wear heels unless I'm going for dinner or going out at night.

Therefore when people do stare at my bag when I look sloppy, I assume they think it's fake. I see so may fakes around (even in my area). I have seen people following me and my bag with their eyes before! maybe thinking 'she looks a mess! How can she afford that bag!?!' :yucky:

I have noticed since I bought my LV Speedy- ALOT of the ladies with the REAL and FAKE ass bags staring me down. Not a knowing smile but like a snooty look. I just don't get why the girls with the fake Louis vuitton with thread hanging off their vinyl look leather, stiff canvas bags give me a snobby look?!!!!

I was in Las Vegas for a convention and went into Tiffany & Co. and overheard 2 of the salespeople discussing with a customer if my Coach Legacy Hobo was real or not because they had never seen it in pewter! Then, she comes and stands behind me and stares at it. I turn around and look at her and she asked me if it was made by Coach and if it was real or fake! LOL Why would i knowingly buy a fake Coach bag? :)

I am totally guilty of staring at people's bags ! Almost every girl i know owns a fake Chanel bag. I always stare to see if anyone ever has a real one. The answer is always no. You don't see a whole lot of real bags here!

this might have been the same for me. I dobn't dress supermart, more like office-casual. That day I was in three-quarter trousers and a cotton tee; and the place I live (Leytonstone) is hardly designer heaven; you don't even get many fakes.
