Has Bergdorf Goodman gone downhill?

Bergdorf beauty is not what it used to be. I used to love and was seduced by the round conservatory room that housed the most beautiful perfumes - (right next to/in front of JAR). The room was so seductive and expensive. Whenever I stepped into that room at BG - I made an expensive purchase. Stepping into the room made me feel like I was getting a glimpse of what princesses had on their vanity, and the displays were so girly/feminine, the lighting was soft - like a boudoir. Now the perfumes are just laid out ~ no mystery ~ no seduction. Buy it or leave it. Garish - just like BG's overdone windows. We get it - you like to hang chairs upside down from the ceiling and use paper mache! How long can you present the t-i-r-e-d look! I wonder if this has to do with Estee Lauder owning of the many brands. My favorite brands are now Chanel, Dior, Cartier, VCA, Guerlain. Yes and you rolled your eyes at these choices - but what else do I have access to? I wish BG would become a bit more exclusive again and bring in some french perfumes that we do not have access to and don't even know about. Thrill me please! Excite me! Seduce me! Beg me to spend...if I want regular displays I can head over to Bloomingdales. If I were in charge I would have different exclusive rooms ~ a ladylike room, a bohemian room, a room for young and trendy girls. Go deep BG - thrill us again!

Well I think that BG along with many other stores are now catering to the "masses" not those
who are looking for unique, special, distinctive merchandise. Those women for the most part
with a great "eye" are not who the stores want as clients.
For me, BG has become a hodgepodge of new brands that just don't promise what they should
be delivering. "BUY ME".. even their gift department is mediocre now, not chock full of
treasures from various parts of Europe . The book department is boring.
If you are looking for some interesting scents I can recommend Henry Jacques, Ormaie
& Cultus Artemis. Cultus Artemis which is available at BG & the perfume bottle is quite beautiful.
A black bottle with gold tassels. The Ormaie fragrances have unusual various wood shape tops &
Henry Jacques speaks for itself.
How I miss Barney's & Takashimya. The Takashimya beauty floor was etheral..

Barney's and Takashimya my goodness - what a loss. Are you me?

Well, BG has to adjust or meet the same fate as Barney and takashimya, gallerie Lafayette, Bendel, Lord and Taylor and the rest of them.
For different and unique items , boutiques are the best, imo.
La maison guerlain is all I need:blah:

you are right and make good points! BTW Dior on line beauty is really killing it - beautiful and exceptional packaging and products and Guerlain as well. And I do love the boutique exclusive items from Chanel - items that were mainly discontinued but able to be purchased in the fashion boutique or in Paris.

Did anyone ever visit the Caron Boutique on 57th? It was a beautiful mirrored boutique with pastel powder puffs and large and ornate perfume fountains for refillable bottles of all different sizes and shapes! Caron was ahead of its time. It was located at 675 Madison Avenue I think that is where Agent P is today, and maybe where Ivanka ***** had her jewelry store after Caron moved to Lexington?

I never did...it will be interesting to see what happens in retail this year.
I think business is very challenging at the moment. There are mixed messages going on in the
world of fashion. Designer price points are increasing much to the chagrin of many
In general we are in a more relaxed state of dressing & casual clothes take one anyplace
they need to go. No more dress codes in top restaurants the way it used to be
I have friends that work at BG & sales are not what they used to be. Not head to toe dressing
the way clients used to. Now it seems "items" are what clients want.
Promos are still very enticing as well
Business seems to be in the direction of trends, sneakers are still hot. Bags are still the really
important accessory & customer service at times is declining

Yes. With the urn fragrances
I also used to love charivari
I lived on 86 on the UWS and stopped at the 72 street subway to browse on B’way and use the express:blush:

Between Zabaars and the many boutiques there, my paycheck took a beating:lol:
I just found old jewelry from there.
I think that it was there I discovered Eileen Fisher.

Has anyone purchased a Chanel handbag over the phone from BG for shipment?
There's something I've been looking for and I'm told I need to keep my CC info on file, as it's first come first serve and the bag sells within seconds, I suspect to other clients who have their CCs on file. Is this typical of BG? I'm hesitant because my SA never even has a chance to share a photo or tell me about the characteristics of the bag. It sells out immediately! I've never bought a bag without inspecting it first. The SA makes it sound like the Bergdorfs only sells outstanding quality, but we all know that's just not true with Chanel lately!

I purchased at least one (maybe two, can't remember) Chanel bag(s) from Bergdorf's over the phone - it's been several years and at the time I had a SA so I simply texted her my cc info (she's no longer with BG). One bag was limited edition and hard to get. No card on file. However, it's much more competitive now so maybe she's trying to give you the best chance.
