The SA in our local H store whom I got my birkin from mentioned to me that they normally do not put birkins on the shelf and she kept 1 for me because I had other purchases before. Now I understand the SA in Vegas H store said " impossible" when I asked whether there may be shippment in the next few days when I was there last Christmas.
