I have an HW 2cttw 3 stone ring and when my husband bought it 3 years ago it was 25K. The prices have gone up since then of course, but if you go into a HW I'm SURE you will find that they are super friendly and willing to work with you to get you the ring of your dreams! Good luck and keep us posted on what you ultimately decide!

We just looked at a 3.01 ct round, D, VS1 at HW for $215k and a 3.0 emerald, D, VVS1 for 200k.

Hope this helps!

Wow, Bluenile offers that first stone for $75k and the second for $125,000.

I'd rather save the money on a generic stone and, I don't know, buy a yacht or something, lol.

Of course if your heart is set one the designer engagement ring, go for it! I looked at a 2 carat I color VS-something stone at De Beers for $40k. I don't know if HW is comparable to them, but they're the standard.

The only price I have from HW is a pair of 20 carat, D, IF earrings for $9.1 million. :graucho:

HOLY! that's expensive!

According to hubby, our 10 year anniversary upgrade wont be coming from a branded source and I couldnt agree more. I was looking 5 carat cushion cut with EF color, VS clarity and they run about 100K-150K.

I'll take one of those! *swoon* I saw a similar stone in the window of a store once. DH (fiance at the time) refused to go inside to look at it, lol!

My head is spinning. I cannot be objetive about diamond prices so I can't get behind buying a name brand when it comes to just the rock itself. These numbers are all so astronomically high to me. For $40k, I know for a fact I could dig up a 3+ ct, high grade diamond. At least 3ct.

However, it would not have the HW name to it. And it that is what tickles your fancy, go for it. Research, research and research it before buying, though, so you get the most you can.

Either way, congrats! I hope you get what you want and wear it in good health for many years.

Yes, the prices are surprisingly high (ie. the price of a small house!).

About 5 years ago a Tiffany 1.6 H, VV2 Lucida was only $16,500.

I think in this case it is not only the HW name but also the Madison Ave location AND of course the D color. When we looked at the E colors they were 50k less!

I would consider this type of ring an heirloom/investment piece.

I looked at 5 carats for less at smaller jewelers, there is just something about the HW name! :P

That sounds more realistic. Prior to HW buying that diamond, it wasn't mined as an HW diamond. It became an HW after they picked it out. And these retail stores can't buy all the good diamonds offered.

Its just like H birkin bag with the diamonds. But people buy it only cause of the name. H sends the bag out to be set with the diamonds to a jeweler. You can buy the bag & send it to a jewelers yourself for a fraction of the cost. I've priced it out with even better diamonds that H uses.

I doubt this would affect name brand jewelry like Cartier and HW but I know jewelers that have told me that while gold/metal prices have gone up, diamond prices have gone down. Of course, these name brands can demand what they want because in large part you are paying for a name, but if you go non-brand, you could probably get a great deal nowadays.
