Exciting fake finds - I am gobsmacked
I shall be politic and NOT post the link to the faker site, I believe that is against TPF policy, better safe than sorry
But, like wow, I found a motherlode of fakes - and good ones too - I really had to look twice to find the tells
1. Many sizes and formats, 140cm CSGM, 140cm summer twill - yes , mousse 140cm - yes , mousse etoles - yes, and of course the ever popular 90cm. Lots of bandana fakes. Losange CS fakes.
2. Last week I found 55cm twill fakes
3. Faked designs include ETUDE POUR UNE PARURE DE GALA, CONFESSIONS, PEUPLE DU VENT, TATERSALE - I think that is how Hermes spells it, CAVAL D OR, GRAND MANEGE A JOUETS, PIROUETTE AU GALOP, SANGLES EN ZIGZAG, EX LIBRIS EN CRAVATES, many variants of DELLA CAVALLERIA with and without FAVOLOSA, COUVERTURES NOUVELLES, JARDIN DE LA MAHARANI, TRESORS D UN ARTISTE, HARNAIS DE COUR and more
I think the list is interesting. I get uninterested in faked designs.
4. Yes they have faked the new caretags - the ones that flip up and are held by only 2 stitches

I forgot finesse too in PAPEROLES - unusual that they should pick a 20 year old scarf (finesse) although they had many of the exact recent cws of the reissue of PAPEROLES. SO, there are modern dake of the oldies

I have very limited experience in scarf collecting but is the recent amount of fakes due to H changing the production of scarves? For example the laser printing....I am wondering. And MT many many thanks for sharing your expertise. :flowers:

There are many possible opinions in this , I will type mine maybe Thursday when I get back to real keyboard so as to minimize typos- no one has to agree with my opinion , others can contribute in this thread too
There are many ways to read your question, I will focus on the words "recent amount" ie more than usual. I ignore the uber vintage market - the early oldies are totally different, So, speaking only to more modern scarves, ca after 2000.
No, I dont think there are more fakes now. There were plentiful fakes in the early 2000s - before it was generally accepted that laser printing was in use. I think it only "seems" like there are more fakes now.
A few memories of the ebay market in the early 2000s
- Ca 2000s, a lot more scarves went to auction. Yes, some went for amazing prices. But, it took at least two overzealous buyers to push a memorable auction for a blue Lumieres de Paris to $1400. The psychological dynamic of bidding against someone is different than doing a BIN - less impulse buying with an auction, you get a week to mull it over. At least two people thought the scarf was real. I remember people squabbling that another overbid her and stole HER scarf. I dont remember a lot of buyers remorse when the auction price was high - they were proud to have scored the scarf.
- Ca 2000s, many fakes back ca 2000s went to auction but the ending price was far less than 2X. Ebayers were looking for bargains and might have paid $150 for a fake Paddock, Hola Flamenca, Jeux d Ombres - all of which were very popular.
- Ca 2000s, there were few BINs and rarely as high as 2X retail.
- Now I routinely get asked to look at BINs at 1.5X - 2.0 X retail. See authentication thread.
- Now, it only takes one zealous buyer to hit a BIN at 2X retail. I get pressured a lot via PM to make a positive decision on these. I have said that no, the photos are still bad, and the buyer was very unhappy .
- Now, it is a different psychological dynamic - impulse buying is possible.. I also get a lot of PMs from remorseful buyers who acted too soon - they are paralysed with uncertainty post facto.
So, my hypothesis - feel free to present a dissenting opinion - is that the new market of BINs at high prices is what is different. DIfferent psychological paradigm - impulse buying. So, prices and emotions are high (buyers uncertainty).

Yes, it is easy peasy to fake some of the newer 2 screen scarves. are they lasered? I dont know for certain. The salient point is that the design is trivial to fake. BdG Love and Jungle Love Tattoo are examples. There are tells, but the photography has to be just so to see them, on balance the fakes are excellent.
And to inject a bit of humor, the BdG Loves that are not unfolded out of the heart box for photography (for fear of not being able to get it back in) are ripe for fakes. See authentication thread , I got asked to do quite a few of those, and the BINs were high, if memory serves. And I do remember being hounded by one buyer to say the unfolded scarf was real - true story.

So, that is my opinion, based on requests from the authentication thread.
