H Boutique Or Reseller?

Wow, did you guys read my mind? I've been thinking about it this way too where if I buy the item from a reseller, then I can leisurely shop from Hermes as I want without pressure too. There are a few fine jewelry items they came out with recently that are beautifully inspired by the clochette lock and keys...

I didn't realize craie was such an enigma to catch! I hope Hermes never discontinues it and makes it permanent, because it's in such demand that'd be a shame :wtf: And this entire time I thought that I could always find craie later on in the future, hearing this makes me think twice about waiting

I agree with most people - if you are totally set on this one colour, go the reseller route. Then enjoy your Hermes shopping and as you are offered more you can build up your collection. it is an amazing brand and the quality of workmanship unrivalled. I am sure others will vouch though that it is a slippery slope - you think once you have bought your dream bag that will be the end of it. But you usually end up focussing on the next one!

I only buy from boutique.
I can’t be bothered to deal with possible authenticity issues related to secondary market.
I just want to enjoy my H items without worrying about details like ‘does this stitch look right?’

Yes you are right - but I guess there are many big resellers one can trust (at a premium price!!)

I buy both, but not overpriced reseller. If you want crinoline, vibrato, patinated smooth barenia in colors; vache naturale; metallic; or discontinued models, with the understanding of the need to do proper due diligence, why not. My preloved items, some collectors pieces bought at substantial discounts, have been admired at Hermes boutique. I have a great relationship with my H SA and there is a difference between buying stuff that is vintage and discontinued and rare versus a marked up reseller piece of dubious authenticity. i did scoop up Covid deals that I could not resist (black barenia B30 for 7K USD). I prefer to wait for the right item, for thr right condition, at the right price (I already see prices starting to soften) . I could care less about resale value and prefer to get my value out of cost per wear. When I am done, or if something is not quite my style, I have a happy group of family and friends who are happy with my hand me downs (including my mom, MIL, aunt, and cousins). JMO and everyone’s tolerance varies.

ETA: I generally would not buy from Instagram, Facebook, private unknown seller. I would never purchase without prior authentication that I personally trust. i would always buy an expensive bag via PayPal verified buyer backed by Amex platinum (I find chase sapphire CS not as responsive). If I need to spa via third party professional or send the bag anywhere, everything is shipped next day with full insurance declared, and my seller would do that too. On a high end bag purchase, I would never use bank wire unless I really trusted the seller (I have not done it yet) and even then I would prefer to spend the 3%.

Hi! Do you have any tips on how to get exotic B offers? I did spend around 30k & told my SA that I’m interested in exotic bag but my SA said it’s very rare & stock is very low nowadays.

With exotic bag inventory so low nowadays & pre-spend requirement is so high, would you consider buying from auction house?
I see that exotic B/K/C are selling for very good prices at Christies online auction now.

Most of them dont have CITES certificate. It might not be a big deal to some but for me, i prefer the bag with CITES cerificate and complete set.

Remember that Christies adds 26%, and unless the item is shipped to a location with no sales tax, in this auction, 8.875% New York sales tax is also due on the total, bringing the price you see in estimates up by approx 37%. (In Europe usually 20% VAT would be due, but only on the auction house premium.)

I may be wrong…I only know of the buyer's premium (26%), but is the sales tax added for the item? I didn’t seem to recall about the sales tax addition, but it was long time ago..

Plus, it will be interesting to see how many of these estimates are exceeded in the current environment.

Old thread, but given it maintaining its current relevance, perhaps this is can be best stated here.

When I first started purchasing H bags about a decade ago, I essentially only purchased from the H boutique. Like many here, I enjoyed shopping the many genres/categories of H items (but not all, I think many can relate) due to the quality/craftsmanship, and I certainly indulged in all the pieces in these categories that I really loved, especially cashmere scarves. However, over the years, I’ve come to the conclusion that there are only so many items in general, including H, one can acquire before retail fatigue (forgive my lack of a better term at the moment) kicks in — in addition to having been fortunate in acquiring multiple quota bags in my desired size/color/hardware combos. Over the past few years, I have found myself in this funny predicament where there have been only a few quota bags left that I am interested in — unfortunately, they are very particular size/color/hardware combos, so I have found myself naturally leaning more towards the reseller route, which I never thought I would. Of course, I would still shop the boutique for items in other categories I love – I have just acquired so many “side pieces” from H over the years that additional purchases I’m interested in (ie. a currently offered cashmere scarf in a lovely green/natural colorway) would not equate to a proper pre-spend for the exact/specific item left on my wish list, mind you in a color that is not currently in production. Lol….and I refuse to buy things I would not use/wear just to maintain prespend, so…..

Wondering if other long-term H shoppers are in a similar predicament?

Yes, I feel the same, especially after my SA of many years is no longer with H. One part of me doesn't really have the desire to start with another SA, but another part is still keen on "maintaining the relationship." Will see what happens, but I'm no rush at this point and don't mind browsing the reseller sites for anything that might pique my interest.

In my case there are very few 'new' bags that I desire..I either dont like the leather options in the size I desire or the colours on offer dont appeal.
I dont agree with the idea of buying 'stuff' in order to get a handbag SO the current way of shopping in the H boutique is not for me.
My favourite SA's have left the company or moved from sales roles....I feel no inclination or desire to build a 'relationship' to get a bag especially because as aforementioned the bags I like in the specs I like are either no longer available or rare as hens teeth.
Therefore pre-owned market or resellers seems to be the only way I will buy my next Hermès bag.
