Guilty of not using high end handbags after acquiring them!

I also have an issue with the fact that I have to carry a laptop back & forth to work every day, so I carry a backpack, which makes it impossible to carry a bag on the shoulder. And some shoulder bags have a size and/or handle that make it difficult or impossible to carry hand-held or in the bend of your arm. So I have a few bags that are automatically eliminated from everyday use.

I currently have two high end bags (Chanel/LV). The Chanel I've had for a year but have only used it maybe a 1/2 dozen times! The LV is the SC bag (all leather) which I recently purchased on Fashionphile through thier layaway. I put the downpayment on my CC and the balance was paid off by selling off almost my entire collection of bags (except the Chanel of course). I thought I'd rather have 2 or 3 exquisite bags rather than a few mid-designer bags. I've been slowly purchasing other bags such as RM and AW to use more like every day bags but why don't I just snap out of it and just use these darn bags? That's what they're meant for, to be used! So why am I having this guilty feeling of owning them? I guess I'm just afraid if I use them all the time they'll get ruined. :-s:help:
GREAT thread Antonia!! I used to buy bags for my imaginary life  I believe I now found the bags for my real life - the latest is a LV SC in quetsche, which I feel is very casual for my casual life.
Antonia don't be afraid to use your SC :smile1:

I don't have a problem with having a few bags set aside for special occasions. Special occasions are by definition special, meaning something that occurs infrequently, is out of the ordinary, is not an everyday occurrence. I have two Coach large wristlets I use for weddings, the opera, dh's work events, etc. I don't need these little handbags often, but having two in my closet means when an event comes up I do not have to scramble trying to find a small bag that will work. For someone else their special occasion bags might be Chanel or LV.

I have a couple of mono LV I rarely use though. I only use them when we go into the nearby cities where more people carry LV and I do not stand out by having one. Here where I live, I only carry the de, not the mono. In hindsight, as lovely as the mono bags are, I am not sure I would have bought them had I known I would not feel comfortable carrying them where I live.

I agree that buying for your real life rather than your imaginary life is a good idea. Also finding your style, your price point comfort zone and deciding how much wear and tear on your bags you are comfortable with all matter.

I do love what a previous poster up thread said though about using your nice things everyday to make each day special. There is something to be said for living like that. My husband's grandmother passed away years ago and when the family cleaned out her house they found many lovely things she had set aside for "special" that she never used. That is kind of sad.

Personally for me I've decided to use the heck out of my LV de bags and my regular Coach bags. I also have a couple of MK I use pretty frequently, but I don't think I will be purchasing any other MK.

My other bags, the Coach wristlets and mono LV, set aside for special occasions, will be used when needed. They do get used, just not as often, which is okay, because then they will look nice a bit longer.

P.S. Keep in mind that as you age, your lifestyle may change. It's not something static. You may have more special events to attend or you may become more comfortable carrying your nicer bags as you grow into them. You will figure out what works for you!

Thank you for posting this.....I needed reassurance because just recently I had my bags on Ebay for sale but luckily none of them sold. I was contemplating selling because I still have not used them on a daily basis even though I started this thread a little while back. Glad you love your SC!

That is sad.....like many people have said, every day is special so use your good stuff now-do NOT save it for later because later may never come.

What a timely post. I have a balenciaga Bois de rose 2010 city that I have used three times. Just thinking today how it has turned out to be a total waste of money. I love the delicate rose color, but love it so much and because it is so light in color, am worried to use it. The good thing about LV canvas is how sturdy it is, while this Bal seems delicate and unusable. It is silly that this bag sits unused. I guess we just have to all make that mistake and move on. No more really expensive light colored leather bags for me!

What color is your SC? :smile1:

Once those bags have gotten those first scratches, it gets easier! Come on ladies; those lovelies are meant to be enjoyed! Personally, I enjoy banging my bags around; but perhaps that is because I have yet to spend more than $600 on a new leather purse from a premier designer.

I have around 50 bags (mainly Chanel & LV, but also some Prada, Fendi, Gucci, Burberry, Chloe, Versace, etc.) I'd probably be seen using only 3 or 4 of them which I would throw around. All the others are in their original dustbags and boxes neatly placed on shelves. I basically would only take those out to admire. In other words, I see no problem with what you're doing. You can look at it as an investment; prices are increasing like crazy. If kept at pristine condition, one can profit a lot from selling off the bags in the future!
