Guide For Coach Product Grades and Markings

I work at an antique store. While there are antiques, a lot of the vendors also bring in random stuff to sell. There's a coach bag, among several, I have my eye on. But I need your opinion. This is the creed. What do you think. Right now its the only photo I have but it is real leather. It looks vintage. Its a crossbody bag. The inside isn't lined. Its all leather.

This is not the thread where authentication requests should be posted. They belong in the Coach Shopping Forum, read post number 1 of that thread and supply the needed information. We can't determine if any bag is genuine from just a creed photo, we need pictures of the actual bag as well.

Does anyone know if the sheen on this bag is natural, or can you tell if it has it been rehabbed to result in that sheen or anything like that? Just bad camera flash? I really prefer the matte look on the 2nd listing (may be because it is navy instead of black?) and wonder if the bag in the 1st listing would look like that in different light.

I am not very familiar with the serial numbers for bags that have a little tag inside of the pocket and no serial number on the creed patch.

I recently acquired the bag below and I am interpreting it as "Made in January, 2015 at plant 93 and the style number is 35156 - am I reading it correctly?

Does anyone know where plant 93 is located?

You are reading it correctly. The information on the white tag is the same as what would be on the creed if Coach didn't mix things up to confuse us!

Generally, I don't keep records of numerical plant codes but there should be a made in tag (also inside the bag) showing where it was made. I believe (but don't guarantee it) that 93 is a Chinese plant.

Thanks! Talk about mixing things up just to confuse us, the bag above that I just received is one of the 2015 era bags that have blank hangtags without the "Coach" name on them. Why did they think that was a good idea?

And my denim Rogue satchel is style number 38124 (and that's printed on the tag in the pocket) but there is an entirely different number on the creed patch.

Yep, they sure like to mix things up!

Thanks! I found the "Made in China" tag in the main compartment of the bag.

I am baffled. Does Coach make retail and MFF versions of the same style bag? Here's an example of why I am asking. Creeds from 2 black Coach Mercer 33 satchels: (although the second photo isn't as clear, magnification confirms it reads L1881-37167)

Thanks so much in advance!

Hello. New to ‘Coaching’. I am in search of a list of style names and or pattern names for Coach bags before I try to make my own guide. Any suggestions? Please and thank you in advance.

There have been other partial guides to names and numbers, all of them incomplete and sometimes inaccurate. Coach has probably made at least 3000 different styles just in handbags when you include all the outlet styles, so you may not realize what a massive task it is. Investing time and effort, not to mention computer resources, in a project like that where there's no accurate searchable database is a lot harder than it looks, especially when you can find the name for almost any style you might be interested in just by asking here. There really isn't much of a practical use for a full list unless someone's a high-volume seller. Or a forum authenticator.

Coach makes it even harder. Many style names are used more than once, often in styles that are totally different from others with the same name. They've even been known to re-use style numbers and are doing it more often now that they're almost at the end of the list of available 5-digit style numbers. Add to that the fact that styles made before 1994 don't have the style number inside the bag, and in most cases the only place to find a name, style number and picture is in an old catalog. Styles made between 2014 and 2017 either don't have easily visible style and serial numbers at all, or some of them have numbers that Coach apparently made up out of thin air and used for more than one style at the same time. For instance, search Ebay for "Coach 20315". And what about fake bags with incorrect style numbers? You can also never depend on sellers to know the correct name of the bags they're selling either, at least a third of them often don't. Some styles made in the last 20 years can be found in the Coach pages of the Internet Archive aka the Wayback Machine, but you have to know the months and year the item was for sale, it has to be a full-price store item, and even then it's hit or miss, many catagories, months and even years are missing or unsearchable.

Good luck!

Hi, I'm Love. I bought a Coach bag online. It says it's authentic. The details in the creed is different from the one I'm seeing online. It says, "This is a coach bag. The storypatch is our badge of authenticity.Few people...". All written in capital Those are the details written before the serial numbers. The serial No. A1822-F29208.

Please help me identify if this is a fake coach bag. Thank you

A serial number (by itself) doesn't prove authenticity.

For authenticity requests, please post pictures on the authentication thread. See post 1, page 1 or the highlighted post at the top of each page of the thread for the posting format and info needed:

ETA: Sorry. I didn't realize you'd already posted there.
