Gucci wallet vs LV wallet

The glazing on all of my LV wallets splits, discolors, fades and chips... not happy with that quality of that part. Also, the interior lining gets sticky with age. I just had to get rid of a wallet because everything I put in it came out with brown sticky whatever the heck that coating is made of.

My leather Gucci wallets are all in fantastic condition, however. I cannot speak for LV leather wallets, as I have none. But a Gucci leather wallet beats the heck out of an LV canvas wallet all day long.

I own a Gucci wallet and just recently switched to a LV(Emilie wallet which is the least expensive one) and I feel like the wear on the Gucci shows more than LV. Also bought my bf a LV wallet last year and it still looks spanking new! I look at the Gucci wallet now and it looks faded. You get what you pay for... Pay a little more for LV and it will last longer I believe.

Depends on the specific wallet. Everyone seems to say that LV wallets are of the highest quality. I disagree. I had major quality issues with my Brazza wallet - its glazing split open twice in almost exactly the same spot (despite this LV still claimed it was not a defective product...) After much persistence I was refunded for the wallet, and I bought a Zippy Compact Wallet. I've been using that for around a year and I couldn't be happier with the quality. So I'd suggest a Zippy wallet of some sort if you go with LV. Be very aware of glazing and which parts of the wallet will receive the most stress through constant opening and closing etc.

I have a Gucci leather billfold which is good quality but I haven't used it enough to comment on whether it is long lasting quality.

Thanks everyone for their comments and input. Since the thread I actually bought the vernis sarah wallet in givre, but the only complaint i would have about is my choice of a light coloured vernis as since Sept 2011, the wallet has abit of colour transfers. Quality definitely is superb compared to Gucci!

I'm currently torn between a Gucci leather duffel http://www.gucci.com/us/styles/206500BEG1G2145#
and an LV keepall 45 Monogram Macassar. I tried both at the stores and I have to say, though the price may well reflect why there's a difference in the quality, it feels like the Gucci duffel isn't as well made as the LV. I'm still torn because I like both but don't want both. I want something to last. I'm guessing the LV will simply on the make quality alone, despite the fact that the Gucci is all leather.

To add to this post, I also have a Tiffany leather calf grain wallet and an LV ZCP Damier Graphite. The LV is roughly the same age (about 7 months) and the LV looks and smells new despite having used it more. The Tiffany, however all leather, looks like my Dad's used wallet he's had forever.

I had a Gucci wallet too and after about 3-4 years, the leather has worn out. I'm now considering an LV wallet - either an Insolite Organizer or a Zippy. Seems like the canvas wallets of Lv are durable. :)

My experience with LV wallets is good. My friends and I have LV wallets and they seriously wear like iron. I tend to baby my items, but they still look new after months of regular use

I have the Gucci strawberry guccissima leather wallet:

I also have the LV Sarah wallet.

The Gucci wallet lays flatter than my LV wallet considering they both carry the same stuff whenever I switch out. Both wallets have scratches/indentations from interior credit cards/normal wear and tear. However, the outside of my Gucci wallet looks better than the LV one, even though it's older. (LV wallet button has scratches, canvas is a little bit dull).

It may be due to the color, but my Gucci wallet gets lots of random compliments when I pull it out to pay for something. I'm asked all of the time where I bought it (Saks 5th Avenue).

I would have to agree with some members in this forum, nothing beats the durability of Louis Vuitton. Arguably, Louis Vuitton is the best brand for leather goods. However, Gucci is not bad either. For men, Louis Vuitton has multiple wallet designs and in different types of leather. Gucci wallets are mostly similar, but you can get them in a smaller size. If you put your wallet in your back pocket, your Louis Vuitton wallet with a Monogram, Damier Ebene or Damier Graphite that is, it will get ruined. It is more expensive. That is true. If you can get both, get a Gucci billfold for regular outings and a Louis Vuitton wallet for other things. Trust me, my son has had a Gucci wallet for almost six years now and it does not look bad, but you can tell that it is one of the old designs. This is exactly why I am thinking of gifting him with a Louis Vuitton wallet. I know he is going to use it for at least five years, so why not go big or go home?

I really need to disagree with "nothing beats the quality of Louis Vuitton." I many things from LV and love a lot of them but not everything lasts like you would hope. I have had 2 key pouches, and the brass has chipped off and the canvas coloring has faded within the first few months. I has a Macassar card holder- costs over $300 fore a small card holder- and within the first week, threads starting coming out and the black leather chipped to show signs of white under it. They replaced it and it happened again. The corners are all bent out of a shape from putting it in my pocket. Im not saying all lv wallets are garbage but not all are so great. One wallet I LOVE is my bottega veneta. That brand is truly something else. Understated luxury. With that brand you pay for quality and luscious top quality rather than logos. I love both brands but I have to say my appreciation for bottega is probably higher than any other brand that carries men's fashion. Ferragamo is also outstanding (a step behind BV) and makes some great men's wallets around $300. Im not bashing lv but don't be surprised if it doesn't last.

I agree with you in that Louis Vuitton does not eternally last. Of course it does not, now does it? Depending on how you take care of your wallet, your wallet may last longer. In general, canvas lines are the least durable of Louis Vuitton. Bad weather is also an issue. Gucci's leather is good, but if you use it so much, it will not look new anymore. I say this: take care of your designer goods!

Ferragammo ladies wallets -3 years and metal is tarnishing and the store rep.s do not have their story
together-its gold plated-its rhodium plated - it brass and will never tarnish etc. I do not care to mention the BS I have experienced with a certain ferragamo boutique store
