I purchased this very vintage Gucci bag . It still has its original dust cover as box. The receipt is still attached to the box for 1976. The bag has never been used. Just wondering if anyone has ever seen this style? Also what does the “25” under the made in Italy Gucci stamp mean?

The No 25 refers to the artisan that made it.

The signature pieces at that time were all part of a mainline luggage collection and so many still had a lot of individual artisan care when made - not to be confused with the later mass produced GAC collection (1979-'90) which can look similar.

I have a very rare Gucci 1960 bag, it had been VERY well loved by my grandmother who worked at Bergdorfs in the 50s/60s. I have reglazed the edges, I need to something with the areas that have been scratched/peeling. the back of the bag is in very good condition, the inside and all the leather too....the front is embarrassing :). any ideas? I was thinking of having the gucci snake painted on the front so it can hide and snake around the blemishes, or I may just sell it as is

I have a bag around the same age that's in sad condition (due to it being patent) It's rare and would have been very expensive. I just love it the way it is because Gucci can't do anything.

Gucci wouldn't be able to do anything for you either, but I wouldn't paint it. It's still a stunning bag. Enjoy it the way it is or sell it.

Hi friends, I’m looking for some info on this Jackie I’ve been following. I cannot find info on what era or season it’s from, but I’m very intrigued. It’s brown leather with applied distressing and scratches to make it look vintage. Any idea?

Hi, I just found this thread and I'm a noobie when it comes to vintage gucci purses, so I'm hoping some of you could help me find more info on this bag!
I bought it off a local online seller. Seems to me to be from the late 70s or early 80s, given the style and the shorter shoulder strap. But I'm no expert, this is my first gucci purse. It also has the gold serial number that is fading and the round leather with a gold pleated gucci logo. Does it look authentic? I'm not asking anyone to authenticate it, but since I'm a rookie I dont know what to look for. I think the stitching looks solid. And it would be nice to be able to date it correctly.

Any comments are appreciated! And if @papertiger wants to help out I'd be very happy!

@papertiger @Vintagegucciguy To bring this back (sorry history and knowledge are my jam lol) I just registered to make this post to ask if I have something special. The way I’m interpreting this explanation is that the artesian who crafted it is the number, and it’s under the accessories division of the company before they made GAC a subsidiary in 1979. They stopped allowing the artisans to number the bags around 1976, so if I have a numbered bag like this it’s pre 1976. What if the artisan’s number is super low like mine? Does that make it a special bag?

I got a little tipsy on Xmas eve late at night and bought a sherry lined clutch to use as an iPhone case in my work tote, but maybe I need to get it actually appraised…… can you please provide some information about this bag (please note I’m not asking for authentication, just information to determine my next steps).image.jpg

Looks '50s (post '53).

Nothing to do with GAC at all.

Sorry for brevity, gotta make breakfast;)

We don't authenticate at the Gucci forum anymore. I would seek third-party authentication as it may be your only legal recourse.

I have found this on a reseller website- the woman is selling a number of her mums old bags etc. She told me that she doesn’t know whether the bag is authentic or not and hasn’t checked so had listed it for under £10. She had a Vivienne Westwood pouch which was very old and rare and authentic selling for £10. Does this look like it could be a very old model of Gucci? I am unsure simply because the inside is black whereas the outside is brown; could be the lighting. In addition to this I don’t see any Gucci logos; but perhaps those are hidden in the photos. It looks like a wallet on chain model but it’s not. It’s a purse with a separate card holder insert. What do you guys think?IMG_0473.jpeg
