I found this vintage gucci in a consignment shop for $45 (not on sale!), right next to a handful of 1980s guccis for over $200. I know the 2 digit gold number inside places it between 1950-1970 roughly, and the Gucci zipper pull probably puts it around 1960+ (if original), but I've seen similar leather bags dated around 1955. I'm trying to read the old control card, and it may reference 1958 (third set if numbers, I know 56 is the model). Can anyone help me pinpoint the year better than this? Lol

None of the hardware says Gucci or has any emblem, the leather is stunning, and it's in what I would consider near mint condition.
I’d love you to repost images of this bag - sounds similar to one I have but your images have disappeared!

Hi, I'm looking for any information on this style. I've seen details on a few different sites I trust that it was released in either the 1940s, 1950s or 1960s (depending on if info is from 1stDIbs, Invaluable, or LiveAuctioneers), but I can't find a source I feel confident in relying on. It is almost identical to the Birkin HAC 50, from the closed belt loops that squeeze the handles, the shape of the center doe-footed key, type of pockets, and dimensions. I know the HAC was bascially the mother design for the Birkin, with these "high belt" style bags going back to the end of the 1800s. Not sure when the actual HAC was released, but if this Gucci design began production in the 40s-50s-60s time period as suggested, it would pre-date the Birkin by a few decades. I wonder why these are a lot more popular and recommended to people asking for recommendations for a Birkin dupe that looks more life-style appropriate? It's in the same upper price range as the highest quality Birkin reps, without the embarassment of buying a dupe since it was released first, without the sadness of getting dupe quality or calls-outs, and is actually a believable purchase compared to a $28,000 HAC 50.
Edited to add measurements in case that helps anyone: Measures: W: 53 x H: 40 x D: 24 cm.

It's from the mid-90s

The style at Gucci dates back to the 1950s and was given the name 'Secret' in the 2010s. It's different to the Hermes HAC/Birkin since it has a flap that folds over from the back panel. The H HAC/B has a separate piece sewn on to the back panel.

These bags like the HAC/B/LV Steamer/Gucci 'Secret" were quite typical for travel around the turn of the 1900s when steamer travel (traveling with others). The travel size bags were cut down for daily travel in the middle of the century into the Sac Monoco/Kelly with one handle or smaller HAC/Secret 2 handles.
