Greedy little ebay sellers!

I recently bought a Coach signature beaded tote from eBay. I got a great deal ($235 with free shipping -- it was originally $358) and it was in perfect condition, so I was happy.

I looked through my seller's feedback and quickly discerned that she was buying Coach dirt cheap from "naive" sellers on eBay (people who didn't know the value of what they had), and then marking it up by $30 - $50 or whatever and turning around and re-selling it.

At first I was like, that seems kind of lame... but then I thought, it's a free market, and she is just being a smart businesswoman. The items are still being sold below retail. So, good for her.

Oh and to me, a greedy eBay seller is the type of person who marks up bags to ABOVE retail, then lies in their listing to say the bag is "rare" or "sold out" when in fact it is still widely available.

There are also people who get on waiting lists at LV for special bags, which they they sell on eBay at extremely inflated prices.

It is greedy, but, it is still perfectly legal to do if some sucker out there is willing to pay.

I think I would've gone up to her and told her you have been wanting that handbag really bad and seen if she would've given it to you to buy. IMHO, it never hurts to ask. The worst thing someone can say is "No." and you're not out anything. I've been able to get a lot of things just by asking.

But, I think you should try again by coming in when they get their shipment in. That's sounds like a good idea. Especially, knowing she comes in once a week!

I tottally agree with this idea, although it sucks and im so very sorry that you didnt get your coveted bag...from her point of view she never KNEW you wanted the bag! and maybe she doesnt even do it to make a profit, maybe shes just a bored person trying to have some fun on ebay? i honestly dont know but i agree with Handbagashley...never hurts to ask!! :)

(but then again that just might be my idealistic mentality that everybody in the world is nice and caring...i know one day i maybe proved wrong but until then ill covet my bubble ;) hehe)

This type of stuff pisses me off.
I agree with the person that said find out when the trucks come so you can have a better chance of getting a bag you want.

Thanks for all of the advice. I hope I didn't offend anyone that sells on ebay. I sell on ebay now and then, myself. The women in question definitely isn't trying to make a living doing this. She looked very well off, she was even carrying a LV. I guess she could just do it as a hobby. Anyway, I guess if I want to get the good Coach I'm going to have to sharpen my shopping skills! Thank again , everyone!

yeah, I think this is just a smart businesswoman. You do what you can, it's all legal, it's legit and I dont think it's dishonest, if you want that stuff you can do it too
