Goodbye Tiffany & Co forever

I have recently purchased silver from the Return to Tiffany line and it appears to be the exact same weight and quality as my other pieces. I've also never had a piece break on me.

However, the exhorbitant price increases on silver and gold combined with the discounting of platinum and diamonds has really turned me off. When I see a piece that once cost $125 which now costs $175 I cannot justify buying it.

If anything, their lackluster new designs (including a Cartier Love rip-off necklace and Cartier Trinity ring rip-off in the form of Paloma's Calife and Interlocking Circles) combined with nearly doubling their prices on classic pieces is really hurting their integrity in my opinion.

As far as their diamonds and platinum, better diamonds, although not necessarily better settings, can be had at a fraction of the cost.

I think we're forgetting that many high-end jewelers scoff at sterling silver while department stores stock significantly lower quality jewelry. Therefore, Tiffany & Co. is the last company continuing the tradition of American silversmithing.

I agree that the Tiffany's SILVER has gone way down in quality. I just bought a ring three days ago and it has turned the back of my finger blue/green. I can't believe it. I am going to try to take it back, we'll see what happens. It's not too tight or anything. I never thought this would happen with a Tiffany's ring.....I just don't understand. I could have easily purchased a cheap ring if I was looking for this quality.

trishakemi, have you ever worn sterling close to your skin for an extended period of time before?

perhaps you have an allergy to copper, the metal they've always alloyed their silver with.

maybe their alloy is losing its luster. it would be a shame.

Its so sad that your Tiffany pieces aren't the quality they used to be.

I have been put off by Tiffany's in the past as there designs are so popular and everyone seemed to have the same.

With there silver prices going up aswell. I saw a nice bracelet on Tiffany's and managed to find a similar bracelet albeit not Tiffany's but from a jewellers and all 925 is the same and I paid £100 less than Tiffany's were charging.

It makes me think twice now before buying, maybe this will be one less brand to shop with.

My tiffany jewelry all hold up pretty well. I own both silver and fine jewelry pieces. I didn't notice any decline in quality. Price has def gone up due to precious metal going up. Their workmanship and design is still one of the best. I'm truly a fan for their diamond pieces.

Agree with the O/P. We're talking about mass-produced stuff. In my city, Tiffany silver is generally what teenagers wear, till it breaks or they tire of it, and it ends up on Craigslist, Ebay, or in pawn shops.

My youngest daughter acquired quite a bit of Tiffany silver jewelry when she was in middle and high school. Now she's in her 20s and not so interested in it anymore. She took her things (bracelets, earrings, necklaces and rings) to several pawn shops and they wouldn't touch Tiffany jewelry, they said because there are too many fakes out there. Since she's not going to deal with individual buyers, Craiglist and Ebay are out, so she's just letting it sit in her jewelry box.

The only thing she had break that I'm aware of is the chain on a silver necklace. I was going to that mall anyway, so took it in to Tiffany to have it repaired. She'd had it for a little over a year, so they said it would cost $25 to fix the chain. Seriously? They're probably paying about $1.50 for those thin silver chains. They have the worst customer service of any jewelry store I've ever dealt with.

A few years ago I had one of the petite little star bracelets for a week before the chain broke. I was so, so sad... I ended up just getting one of the Return to Tiffany charm bracelets & have been very happy with it for years. : )

same here, i've never had an issue with their quality...have not noticed a decline in quality and I'm a huge fan or their fine jewellery!
