I'm planning to go to Gold Country as it is noted as one of the places to visit before you die(in the book). Anyone been there? Which county is the best to visit during summer? Thanks!
It's all quite beautiful. I'd recommend Nevada County (in the northern part with Grass Valley and Nevada City), Amador County (Sierra Foothills - GREAT up-and-coming wineries!) and Mariposa County (near Yosemite).
We did a couple day trips in the Sonora and Yosemite area. It was fun....but not anything that'd I would spend more than a day or two on. Did some gold panning and walked through some of the old towns. It was interesting though.
I totally forget I have this thread opens. Thanks so much redney, dr. twiggers!!! I'll def check those areas! Have any of you tried the gold panning or cave expedition or something like that there?
Do you mean gold panning as in a tourist attraction? Sutter Creek, CA (Amador County) has gold mines for touring and panning, though the panning is more for fun/touristy.
