Deux Lux makes a wonderful 'woven' 'Greenwich Tote', I've attached that pic. And! Urban Expressions has a line of non-leather bags as well.

Here's a pic of the "Jessie Perf" by Urban Expressions in black - but they also have in other colors as well. I LOVE this!

I don't usually post but I can't understand why there's so much hatred and negative response to this thread. I am not a vegetarian and I love leather bags, but I totally understand why OP started this thread - to find out more options for vegan leather bags - and where else would be better to find out about this other than Purse Forum (this is not Leather Purse Forum I don't think). I think it is a good thread as I had no idea there is this much cruelty towards animals (I know, and I bet a lot of people are unaware) but I also refuse to believe everything I see based on one video or website.

I am at the point in my life that I want to be fully aware of the choices I make and how it affects the bigger picture, so I feel excited to follow this thread until I read all the negative comments. I think if you feel like you don't have anything to contribute or don't belong here, then no need to follow the thread? No point posting harsh comments.

If you take a minute to read OPs first post I don't think she meant to offend anyone.

Thanks OP for starting this thread, I would love to find out more about vegan leathers as I have a hard time understanding what the difference between so called 'vegan leather' like Stella McCartney or flat out PU like most bags on cheaper end, say Target?

I have used so many PU bags especially when I was younger and before I came to know about designer bags, and I remember really hating that they crack after a while. Maybe a better alternative to leather would be canvas? Just a thought.

Thanks for the link to the PETA and Mat & Nat websites! Very informative!

Very good post! [emoji3]

Hiya all, thanks so much for the support and for getting the thread back on topic everyone. I am not sure about AH's overall stance on vegan alternatives but I did find a lovely little make up bag which is not leather, though it does have a leather zipper pull, I realised.

Heres a pic of it, I think it's gorgeous, my fav colour is green and I love new life so it ticks all the boxes with fresh green medowy print. I do hope the processing of it is not too harmful to the environment. If any has any links to info about the processing of this type of material please do let me know. I am very interested in learning more.

I also found this little article, I know it dosn't say very much but it does show that some designers (bottom of article) are taking steps in the cruelty free direction. :smile1:

I bought a recycled leather bag. Repurposed from vintage airline seats.
When posted, would've thought I'd introduced bubonic plague onto forum--germophobes went nuts.
Though leather was washed multiple times before upcycling by company.
And saved thousands of animal lives, by reusing quality hides.

Meh.
People do what they do.

Oh thats an interesting idea for sure. I have been wondering how I feel about vintage leather bags now too. I always loved the vintage designer styles of bags and find that their stitching is often so high quality & durable. I'm not quite decided though on weather it's ok to buy vintage leather (I couldn't buy exotic leathers or furs though). Or as you have stated reused leather. Surely it is more respectful to animals to reuse leather and if it is cleaned I see no reason why it should be unsafe in any way.

Yes I feel the same! I've been a vegetarian for years and I've had mostly canvas/nylon/PU bags in the past that usually had leather handles or trim, and had some small leather accessories(wallets). Recently I've been hoping to go all animal free on my next bag purchase.

I have been looking at Stella bags and Matt and nat! I wish more designers would make animal free lines too!

Somehow I continue to be surprised by the defensive posts when the topic of veganism/vegetarianism and leather/exotic skins comes up here. *sigh*

To the OP, congrats on your decision. There are some very nice vegan friendly bags out there and I am sure you find some options that work for you. Personally, I have a Stella McCartney Falabella Tote in the mini size and love it. Matt and Nat has been around for years. Below are a links to a couple others that look interesting as well. Good luck to you!

I also recommend Deux Lux. 100% strictly vegan but oh man, their faux leather bags are to die for. Very soft, almost feels like the real thing, and it actually smells good. I have one satchel with gold studs on it (sadly the stud fell off and the bag was so heavy that I stopped using it). The faux leather is so slouchy and the quality was excellent.

Unfortunately, not a lot of places carry Deux Lux anymore. I know Nordstrom/Nordstrom Rack carries their merchandise still.

I saw a cute Deux Lux makeup pouch in a Goodwill recently and wasn't familiar with the brand. I had my dd look it up on my phone and what I saw was that it was a 'faux' leather so I discarded it out of hand but wish I hadn't.
This piece felt so much like leather that I was totally fooled. Should have bought it but I didn't.
It was woven and so pretty. I'm used to leather only but for a cosmetic pouch, why not?

Next time I probably won't pass it by.
