I have tried the acrylic paint method on an old bag I don’t care too much for. I was able to mix two colors to get a perfect color match but unfortunately once I tried zipping the cracks resurfaced. I‘ve watched another YouTube video on using a wood burning tool to melt the canvas top coat. My partner has a soldering iron tucked in somewhere. I may give it a go haha
Let me know what you find! I’ll be interested to see what others have tried. Are you still returning your speedy?

Another update! I feel like I’ve tried every trick out there haha. The soldering iron method doesn’t work for me because my partner’s one is too damn hot (no temperature dial). It melts more than it fixes.

In desperation I tried a normal super glue and filled the cracks with a needle. It bonded almost immediately and sealed the cracks much better than the fancier leather glue! Best result so far. I think I’m settled for now. As long as the cracks don’t grow bigger I can live with them

Here is the result. The glue residue isn’t as noticeable in real life.

Oh man you’re brave! I think I’d be too scared to try this method lol

Hahahaha sorry I didn’t notice this reply before I replied to your previous post. I think it looks great! I think I may try this method too! The bag looks great though!

A little update on my vintage speed 30 purchase: it arrived yesterday. Was authenticated as real right away. It was in pretty good shape for a bag from 1996.

I was impressed with how intact the piping and monogram print were. No fading or cracking at all. I wonder if it has been used that much through the last 24 years.

I gave it some TLC to clean and rehydrate the leather and polish the hardware. But i didn’t notice two small cracks along the zipper until later on...it wasn’t disclosed by the seller. My bag isn’t returnable, so I’ve emailed to see if they will give me a small refund. I still love the bag and think $400 is a good price, but knowing that I can never bring the bag to LV for leather replacement is a bit upsetting. Not that I was going to do that but I’d like to have the option.

The first photo was taken before my restoration and the last one shows the cracks.

I actually haven't heard from them yet and your question has prompted me to email them again. I've since come to terms with the cracks, so I'm not really pushing hard on the partial refund. Even my partner, who doesn't have a clue about handbags and fashion, thinks the bag is still a steal even with the tiny cracks. I think I may still buy from them in the future.

Yup and so true. Enjoy your bag. I was just wonder cuz I have been following this thread. :) Have a great weekend.

I need everybody’s opinion- I recently purchased a vintage speedy 30 from “vintage boho bags” (they add leather fringe to authentic vintage). It was $1899. I got the bag today and it has a small hole in the canvas near the bottom of the bag- I emailed the company and they gave me 2 options- to send the bag back for replacement or get a partial refund (reduces my price to $1295). What should I do? Do you think this will get worse with wear? Is it possible to patch it? This is my first Louis Vuitton bag and I love it, other than this blemish. I’ll attach photos

That hole look like a burned to me and it still on the outside surface not pernitrate through yet. Once a canvas is damaged, a bag is lost value plus this is a handmade boho bag too. If you really love the bag and okay with the hole, am sure only you will see this. So I would keep the bag and patch it if the hole getting bigger or pernitrate through. Questions I have is, do you plan to keep this bag forever or will you resell later?

I love the bag so much. But I feel like if I don’t try to exchange it and just keep it, I might have regrets if it gets worse. It doesn’t really bother me right now (since it’s small) but it will bother me if it continues to grow.
The other thing holding me back is that this is the only damage to my bag- I’m afraid it I get it exchanged I might get one in worse shape. I don’t really know if I’ll try to resell it in the future or not.

Hi there,
I would send it back for a replacement. The hole looks rather small but it would bother me. The hole can possibly get bigger. I don’t think you should have to patch it yourself or lose money on it if the seller did not disclose this imperfection. It might be difficult to sell in the future if you decide to sell it. Does this store offer the same model bag with the fringe?
