Hey not sure if you purchased a PA preloved yet but I contacted LV to see how much it would be to replace the strap and the leather tab on my PA and I was told $60 for each. Thought I’d let you know if you’re still wondering about a certain piece, hope that helps!
That’s so sweet of you to tell me! I’m trying my luck with the stalking for a new one, managed to ATB but haven’t checked out yet. I’ll give this a shot and see if I’m lucky. Otherwise I’ll go with a preloved. That seems like a very reasonable price to replace the tab and straps. I’m in Europe so it might be more expensive here...I was thinking if I buy preloved to mail it to my mom in Canada and get her to change it there as it might be cheaper. Just don’t want to have to pay customs when she mails it back to me in case they think it’s a new bag LOL:lol::lol::lol:

Haven't finished reading all the posts, but I had both the mono and multicolour pochette back in the day, I'm perplexed why they are such a hot commodity right now because they are essentially nothing more than a glorified makeup bag ‍♀️

This said I have a vintage speedy from 1992 and I just took her into Holt Renfrew Louis Vuitton at Yorkdale for a repair and my SA and the repair person were amazed at the condition of my bag and expressed so much love for her because she is "vintage" I asked about replacing the "made in France tag" and they advised me NOT to send the bag out for Vachetta and tag replacement as other customers have had bags come back without the "made in France"

Since my bag truly was made in France this is important.

I would definitely recommend going for vintage Speedy's vs new, the quality is different unfortunately.

I’m considering buying a vintage classic speedy 30. When I look at online listing a lot of them have cracked canvas along the zipper or broken leather zipper pull. Are they common issues or is it because I’m looking the the cheapest listings (around US$300)?

I have been looking for a vintage speedy 25 mono too. I noticed if the price are $350 or under, you need to get it fix or replace. Make sure canvas are not chips or cracked because I heard LV will not take it. So if you want something more like $500 or higher, there is no need to replace. I'm debating too or maybe just save up and get a brand new one. :)

Thanks for confirming my suspicion. Buying brand new isn’t an option for me, so I went ahead to buy a classic 30 monogram for just under $400 from a Japanese website. It doesn’t have any cracks or very visible stains. Hopefully it looks as good in real life!

Awesome bag! The zipper pull ripping is a common issue. I have a speedy from 1986 and I had the Palm Springs mini and to me you can definitely tell the difference between the canvas. The mini doesn’t compare to the thickness of my 1986 speedy. I was asked why I chose to replace the vachetta instead of buying brand new and well They don’t make canvas like they used to. I think you made an excellent choice. Congrats she’s a beauty

Thanks! Any tip on avoiding ripping the zipper pull please? I plan to clean the leather with a leather cleaner or baby wipe (depending on how dark it is) and apply leather conditioner and waterproof spray.

Honestly I would say to close the bag holding the rivet of the zipper instead of the actual leather pull. I have a new zipper pull on mine and I still don’t close it by just pulling the leather tab as I think it will weaken the leather. Other than that I’m not sure what else to recommend. As far as cleaning it, baby wipes are good along with a little bit of saddle soap. Just be careful not to use the saddle soap on leather that’s too dry. Check out YouTube for videos on how to use it, it works wonderfully. I’d love to see pictures!!!

A little update on my vintage speed 30 purchase: it arrived yesterday. Was authenticated as real right away. It was in pretty good shape for a bag from 1996.

I was impressed with how intact the piping and monogram print were. No fading or cracking at all. I wonder if it has been used that much through the last 24 years.

I gave it some TLC to clean and rehydrate the leather and polish the hardware. But i didn’t notice two small cracks along the zipper until later on...it wasn’t disclosed by the seller. My bag isn’t returnable, so I’ve emailed to see if they will give me a small refund. I still love the bag and think $400 is a good price, but knowing that I can never bring the bag to LV for leather replacement is a bit upsetting. Not that I was going to do that but I’d like to have the option.

The first photo was taken before my restoration and the last one shows the cracks.

Wow you did a fantastic job! I personally don’t think the cracks were too bad and I would have kept it. I had a Neverfull with a small hole in the canvas and I emailed client services about replacing the leather and they didn’t deny my bag so you never know! I purchased a preloved damier Ebene speedy for $300 with similar small cracks that I ended up sealing myself and I’m happy with it. The bag was in excellent condition otherwise so I decided to keep it. Great job on the bag though, I love vintage ones so much :graucho:

thanks!! What did you use to seal the cracks? I tried a fabric glue that has worked on my leather jacket but it doesn’t work so well on the canvas.
