Hoping for some an advice! I just purchased a Kelly as my SA offered me one, however, it wasn't in the exact color I was hoping for. I am still very excited for it and think I'll be able to wear it on many occasions. Is it rude to ask to be put on the list for a B or K in the classic colors I want - gold or etoupe, or will I appear ungrateful? Is there a polite way to do this?
I was in the same situation you were with my first Kelly. I was thrilled to get an email to come in to the boutique and knew it would be a K, but didn't know the color. When I saw it, I wasn't sure about it as it was outside my normal color range of dark neutrals. It was Bleu Glacier (bluish-grey that is light toned but neutral). After trying it on, sending photos to my husband who said he liked it, hemming and hawing a bit, I took it and am to this day happy with my decision to go outside my expected norm! I do think my next Kelly will be a classic neutral, just like you want. Congrats on your new Kelly!!!

Thanks for your response! I wore my kelly 28 in craie for the first time recently and love it! It's the perfect size for me and a beautiful neutral. Now just have to muster up the confidence to ask my SA for a gold or etoupe bag!

Hi, I am hoping to get some opinions from all you Kelly loves.

I'm about to acquire my first Kelly, used ones(for now...) and wonder if would you rather get a Kelly 28 in black box leather fromthe the 60s (retourne) or a Kelly 28 (A sellier) also in black box from 2006? The price difference is about US$3200! Both in good condition but of course the retourne has more of the the patina look.

Thanks!

As for the sellier, the overall condition looks mint but there are some scuffs and used signs of course as shown in the images.

I really hope I can get some thoughts from you before I made my purchase. Thank you!!

The leather looks very dry and on the verge of cracking in some of these photos, which would concern me a lot. The newer Sellier looks to be in much better condition. You may want to post these photos in the Vintage Bag Nightmares thread and get DocRide's opinion, but personally, I'd go for the Sellier in this case.

Thanks catsinthebag, that's really helpful! I have sent DocRide a message and hopefully I'll get a reply soon!

I like them both actually - not sure what sort of price range they are. In my view they should both be well below retail. It depends what sort of look you are going for. I agree with the other poster who suggested Docride's wisdom. Did you post on her thread in vintage bags nightmares?. Retourner has an easy casual feel, selier is a little more dressy though somewhat concerned about the condition of the handle. Do let us know what you go for!

Hi ladysarah

I went for ge selier eventually for about $6450. Oh and a mistake in my previous post, the bag is from 1996 rather than 06 so it's 20 years old. I love retourne and would love to own one in the future as most of my outfits are more casual rather than dressy, plus my workplace does not require us to dress up too much. The reason why I go for the selier is for its price. As much as I would love to buy a brand new Kelly one day, I figure 28 in box leather isn't that common in the market? Plus the price is reasonable?

P.s. Posted in DocRide's vintage nightmare thread but haven't heard from her yet
