I was in the same situation you were with my first Kelly. I was thrilled to get an email to come in to the boutique and knew it would be a K, but didn't know the color. When I saw it, I wasn't sure about it as it was outside my normal color range of dark neutrals. It was Bleu Glacier (bluish-grey that is light toned but neutral). After trying it on, sending photos to my husband who said he liked it, hemming and hawing a bit, I took it and am to this day happy with my decision to go outside my expected norm! I do think my next Kelly will be a classic neutral, just like you want. Congrats on your new Kelly!!!Hoping for some an advice! I just purchased a Kelly as my SA offered me one, however, it wasn't in the exact color I was hoping for. I am still very excited for it and think I'll be able to wear it on many occasions. Is it rude to ask to be put on the list for a B or K in the classic colors I want - gold or etoupe, or will I appear ungrateful? Is there a polite way to do this?

Hi, I am hoping to get some opinions from all you Kelly loves.
I'm about to acquire my first Kelly, used ones(for now...) and wonder if would you rather get a Kelly 28 in black box leather fromthe the 60s (retourne) or a Kelly 28 (A sellier) also in black box from 2006? The price difference is about US$3200! Both in good condition but of course the retourne has more of the the patina look.
Thanks!

The leather looks very dry and on the verge of cracking in some of these photos, which would concern me a lot. The newer Sellier looks to be in much better condition. You may want to post these photos in the Vintage Bag Nightmares thread and get DocRide's opinion, but personally, I'd go for the Sellier in this case.
I like them both actually - not sure what sort of price range they are. In my view they should both be well below retail. It depends what sort of look you are going for. I agree with the other poster who suggested Docride's wisdom. Did you post on her thread in vintage bags nightmares?. Retourner has an easy casual feel, selier is a little more dressy though somewhat concerned about the condition of the handle. Do let us know what you go for!View attachment 3436022 View attachment 3436023
