I agree it's thanks all round to ranag for the seed of the idea and lilyhermes for taking it that step further.

Now you have me thinking. Would a knitted Birkin be an abomination?! I am getting a "so bad it's good" vibe hehe. I think I hear a project calling! let me know how you and misticat get on too.

Well, a knitted Birkin would be wayyyyyy better than the plastic JELLY birkins they made a few years ago, right? I would LOVEEEE to see a knitted Birkin. ohhh, if only I had the skills.

Thanks, guys! I did it the same way as lilyhermes - three loops. The Hermes one I tried in the store has two stirrup shaped metal pieces at either end and (I think) one fabric loop in the middle.

I cut the ribbon, folded it over twice (tiny roll) so there wasn't a raw seam, and stitched that. Then pinned it in place, a few stitches to the silk lining and voila! I think it would look just as nice over the right top as over a winter coat...

mistikat...is that fox? I love fur.

Love this!

^^^^^Love your scarf lilyhermes. Especially the colorway.

I have the same one, but I hate my colorway. Its has a dark beige border and most blue and beige colors. Its nice, its just doesn't go with my clothes. =(

I found this one on eBay, Purse, for a great price, but until I made the fur collar, I hadn't worn it. Yours sounds pretty too, but if you aren't wearing, have you considered selling it? Hermes scarves in good condition always bring a good price.

Or, you could buy a new wardrobe to match the scarf!:graucho:

lilyhermes, I DO think we should tackle a Birkin - LOL! I'm game if you are. Yes, it's Tuilleries! I am going to try it when Spendeurs des Maharajahs too, as there's a fair bit of brown tones and gold in that too. purse-o-holic, it is indeed fox! And when I tried it in the store, they did attach the scarf the way we have, across the whole body of the fox piece, and not just through the metal stirrups at the end, though I suppose you could. It's also on the store mannequin as a collar with the scarf under the entire fur piece...

Wow, mistikat, it turned out just great and looks absolutely wonderful with your scarf - is that Tuilleries? (If so, we must have very similar taste, as I have it in the black and gold color way as well.)

Thanks for the modeling shots too (the pressure is off my sister now to take a decent shot of mine!).

Do you think we should tackle a Birkin next?:graucho:

OIC. I figured that since the only put the two hook on the end pieces....

You'd think they could've put an extra loop in the middle to feed the scarf through! But yeah, I think it would look nice etiher way.

Extraordinary work. If you think the Hermes collar is expensive, Loro Piana's chinchilla collar is even more... because it's chinchilla. It was about 3K. I couldn't justify this purchase so I got a non-branded sable collar. But I really have to start being more hands-on like you.

WHen it comes to fur I don't think any of the brands have "local production" at all, so you might as well get a "No name" fur as long as you know it's from a serious farm of course. I don't know where H gets fur from, but other H owned companies like gaultier has used saga (mink and fox) in their hc collections, which is the most common furs around here and also farms in finland, so maybe your no name fox is "H fur" after all ;) .

Let's go for it, mistikat! I know Ranag will be happy to send us several of her Birkins to use as prototypes. Rana, we'll need at least six!
