Each package was several hundred dollars. I've never had anything tacked on to any purchases I have made from overseas. I always assumed the U.S. didn't have any kind of fees / taxes for merchandise purchased from overseas for personal use......I have no idea about goods bought for resell.

USA does have taxes but I think it's a pretty high limit. I haven't been taxed on anything that came in through USPS, but I may be taxed if it comes in via UPS/DHL. And based on the invoice I have received, part of the charge is a handling fee.

Holy crap! I don't think I spent as much as you or I would have gotten popped too. I wonder if there's some kind of limit you are allowed per package before they pop you with taxes?

If you spent a few hundred dollars per package, I think they should have been taxed. I don't know the amount that can avoid the fee, but I always thought it was a very low amount, like under $100. One of my packages was $400ish. The way they determine which parcels to extract duties is apparently pretty arbitrary, but the amount to pay is 9% of the value declared.

Mine were around $300 each....strange they didn't pop me, but now I know I'll be more aware. Thanks for the info!

The duty free limit is $800 I believe for personal use. My stuff from Collette came in under that since I ordered the fob separately from the tote.

The $800 limit is when you go through customs yourself, like at the airport. I think I read that for packages being imported, they can charge duties for values over $200.

I have bought expensive items from european online stores and sometimes I get billed duty and sometimes I don't. I have no idea what the algorithm is frankly. If I get a bill for duty I will pay it gladly because I got items I could not get here. :smile1:
